Yeah, it's hard to say if things would be better, but I really can't see how they'd be worse than this.
The Track team arc, if you can even call it an arc, was horrible and pointless as usual.

Matter of fact, I think NONE of the chapters ever since EF has had any point. They didn't give Mike any purpose, didn't give him new perspectives, it didn't change his point of view on things, didn't give him any true friends, it didn't provide him any enlightenment, nor did it give him any direction. Lucy has been just moping about for years (IRL), and the other characters have barely had any development too.
