I feel you. The more the writers back themselves into a corner trying to come up with increasingly more elaborate ways for the characters not to die, the harder it gets for me to suspend my disbelief and makes it hard for me to take any suspenseful scene seriously. It's gotten to the point now that even the alternatives to death have become cheapened. Corruption is countered by Mr. walking vaupus producer SKK. Memory wipes used to be grave consequences for characters, but now it seems that all the important mindwiped characters regularly get their memories back when it's already been established that such things were considered miraculous. Even the unknown, to the characters, hazards such as the the parasitic crystals and dark matter nanofluid are trivially dealt with and discarded as narrative vehicles to enhance the stakes.
