Renaissance is an italian term just like the dark ages, it comes from the mediteranean reference frame where when germans took over Rome = dark times started and when Italy rediscovered its ancient arts = revival (rebirth aka re-naissance).
It's a nationalist concept through and through.

But here's the thing - it never cought over here in Russia. The closest to the dark ages is the troubled times (smuta) and the closest to renaissance is Petrine westernisation which first and foremost aimed at catching up with the dutch and british navy.

Culturally we're more heavily influenced by the orthodox Byzantines which never knew renaissance either
