I'm not sure if that's the direction they're going, but it is definitely worth noting how the Nod-Kirai characters are being designed to not really work well with most older supports.
The vast majority of their damage coming from their passives rather than their ability multipliers or reaction damage means that most supports don't really do much for them at all. Bonus dmg% is worthless, ATK buffs actually don't do that much in practice (hence why nobody is trying to cram Bennett into a Filins team), and even the absolute strongest off-field damage dealers like Yelan or Furina aren't as good as having the extra bonus damage onto those passives from Aino or whatever.
EM buffs are still relevant and RES shred is still relevant, but that's really about it. Lauma even does RES shred herself so between that and deepwood that's covered for her already.
(Of course, Lauma pushing Dendro so hard is making the old bloom/hyperbloom staples become more valuable again, but that's the only real exception so far.)
