>this will lead to the rise of proper linux phones
This is what I'm counting on. Progress in this field has been incredibly slow, but I think linux phones can catch up in a few years. I always bring up the Galaxy S8 during this discussion. It's Samsung's flagship phone from 2017. Despite being an eight year old phone, it still looks and functions every bit like a modern smartphone with its 1440p OLED display, still able to playback 1080p video and do all ordinary daily tasks, and I've personally been able to emulate gamecube games on it. Surely, we're getting closer to the point where cheap ARM-processors can match the performance of an old Snapdragon cpu and the UI of smartphones have virtually stayed the same since then.

The same thing happened in the desktop space. Microsoft hasn't innovated with Windows since Windows 7. A decade later, Linux has caught up to Windows 7 and the bar hasn't been raised since Windows has stagnated. There's zero "killer features" that people are clamoring to be adopted into Linux.
