I'm genuinely curious why we fought a civil war over ending slavery. We could do all of these things:

USA currently has 2 million prisoners in our prison systems. This could potentially be 2 million slaves.
We can have the best of both worlds.

Why haven’t republican representatives presented this position? Honestly it seems the most logical. Prisoners are currently a financial burden to taxpayers when they could potentially be a economical asset.
