So I loved all of Sun Eater after book 2 onwards, people shit on book 5 a bit but even that and 6 were still quite good. Even if it sticks the landing, which it likely will, Sun Eater is largely derivative of Dune at first but I think forms it's own identity along the way. Hadrian Marlowe is a strange Skywalker/Severian/Eren Jaeger(?) Type MC. Characters like Khan Sugara being long lived from ancient times (which is contemporary 2000s, Sun Eater is 20,000 years ahead iirc) and essentially digitally immortal was cool. There are many themes on tech advancement, soul philosophy, religion, I actually think Sun Eater is a decent attempt for a new age young author but I don't think it can stand up to the Great Works. We are missing them still, it's a fun space opera romp, with occasional philosophy.
Also I audioed them fwiw, book 4 is my fav. The audio bookcovers are atrocious hahaha the narration excellent
