I honestly don't remember nothing that was that overt, but it was never something that really bothered me, as long as it well comunicated to the player that you may not pass. It's onnly a problem insofar as you're wondering if you're doing something wrong and you think you might be able to pass through it.
I understand that indeed it is stupid, and it's preferable if they should find something that looks like a believable barrier, but I'm mostly concerned with game logic and not too autistic about having something not look realistic, it never really mattered to me, maybe because my first games on the 80s were all pretty abstract looking to bein with and the barriers were just amorphous color blocks or something.
