The gene isn't a real genetic phenomenon. What it is, is the mental separator that allows one to rise to the moment when the lights are bright. The most talented player in the world can be geneless, and a third or fourth tier player can have it. Someone like Higuchi is ultra skilled, but is completely devoid of the gene.
