I still don't think that's the right distinction. Everything has a context it was created in and when time has elapsed from that period it is naturally considered aged.
What matters more is if you can still engage with the medium as it was originally presented and if the adjustments to appeal to the modern equivalent audience adheres or deviates from that.
Most people don't bemoan conformity to modern typography but they do have split opinions if students should read Shakespeare or Chaucer in modern English.
The better question to ask then is if adjustments to how you control the game is more akin to the former or the latter.
