Why so many tech places use discord baffles me. Actually, not it doesn't - a lot of people that spend too much time online become discord as much as discord becomes them.

Shame only trannies and other unbearable types use this shit as I despise discord, with the death of skype there are no tolerable PC messengers left.

The shilling of the same spyware over and over on /soc/ seems deliberately done to keep track of every anon and the nude pics they send/receive. Picrel, I made a post asking if anyone uses qTox, and explaining that I've never seen anyone using it. Half an hour later, two glowies and one anon replied. The glowies immediately tried to shut down the conversation by associating qTox with CP and illegal "file" sharing, and when I tried to reply to the anon, the entire thread was already 404'd. I haven't seen a single anon on 4chan discuss anything about qTox, not even on /g/ either. The glowies seem to be keeping this app's existence hidden from everyone, so there's definitely something they fear about us anons using this app.

I've known about this app for an entire year, so I was actually surprised to see that nobody else even knew of this app's existence, even moreso the anons on 4chan. There's also Trifa, which is basically qTox for Android, and it uses the same protocol as qTox, which allows both Trifa and qTox to communicate with one another. Doing video calls is only good when it's between two anons, anything more than that would require a high speed gigabit ethernet connection. It can also share files as well, and the default limit can be disabled to allow massive files to be shared. The best setup I can think of for using qTox and Trifa is to use qTox on an old IBM Thinkpad laptop with Linux intstalled and the Intel IME/AMD PSP disabled, and Trifa on a phone/tablet with Lineage OS that has SE Linux enabled.

The problem is that when more and more people begin to use this app, the glowies will use their army of troons, pedos, and other mind controlled criminal agents to deliberately create problems, then those problems will gain reactions from the NPC masses, and the glowies will sell the solution by pushing draconian laws to ban anonymity/P2P apps in the name of "online safety" or whatever buzzwords they decide to glue together.

Ive been saying it for years, Discord is the Facebook of the online world, just like Facebook was only created to carefully track and manipulate all IRL social interaction, Discord was only created to do the same online. I can not explain how much I hate discord and the damage it has done to the internet.
I've been telling a friend he needs to move off Discord already and hes like "but Teamspeak costs money" im like motherfucker, theres multiple people in your server paying for fucking nitro so they can have annoying profile pictures and whateverthefuck, make them pay for it "oh i didnt realize that yeah paying to be spied on by discord is dumb, i only use it cus its free and im lazy".
I absolutely despite Discord on a technical level its total dogshit, its terrible software and has an extremely anti-consumer business model and even more so for the extreme degradation it has done to online culture, it is coming up on the "~10 year replacement cycle" and I fear how much worse whatever replacing it will be, I hate all modern messengers, even Signal, its all modern flat ugly no features phone centric trash, just give me back the old PC messengers

I tried matrix and all the clients are absolute garbage, I like these revival projects for Windows Live/AIM/Yahoo/TeamSpeak,they are just like they always were without being infected with all this modern bs, anything that tries to be modern and clone Discord/Whatsapp whatever is cancer to me even if it is secure like Signal or Matrix or whatever, I have not tried XMPP.
The only reason im not on this WL shit is because the "community around Windows" is exclusively full of the worst kinds of trannies infact so ive no place there even tho I used to love WLM. Also since its ancient shit theres no real encryption so even if I just used it with someone I know you know the power tripping trannies are coordinating on their discord and reading all the logs that go through the WLM server so they can ban 'the chuds"

you would think that with all the open sauce autism that clients for open protocols would far exceed their proprietary counterparts but their pure jank. the best one ive tried is actually pidgin tho, and im on the verge of making a clone but just focusing on all the nu features of XMPP.
also i honestly think that you could just make an XMPP client look like discord and achieve 100% feature parity and btfo teamspeak or whatever. all the hard work is done, hopefully this is the future instead of proprietary bullshit protocol #321

Discord is total garbage UI wise, people only defend it because they're either used to it or are zoomers who never used real software with good UI.
Also it doesnt have to be all in one, i think thats why discord is so bad because it replaced everything, dm, public group, direct and voice group, forums, etc. What youre talking about kinda exists, like revolt and other shitty 1:1 discord clones but id never use them as they function exactly like discord, even without the privacy concerns the whole discord model is just dogshit idk how people were convinced its good. Its mostly chat groups that are lacking a good solution, teamspeak/mumble for voice groups works, Steam chat or whatever else for 1:1 works, its not like getting just a few people by themselves to use something you like is that hard, its groups that there is no real good solution for and where the network effect really matters, matrix is super clunk, irc is way too primitive now, discord clones suffer from same issues as discord, etc.
I heard good things about XMPP but I havent investigated it, its not like itd use it just like Matrix even if the clients were good, Pidgin was good, I used it a lot back in a day on my linux PC.
