Definitely a tourist, not ashamed to admit it but i was talking to a co-worker recently, just some small talk, and he just steam rolled me with a barrage of sports trivia that i couldn't believe.

Can somebody explain to me how some people just arrive at his encyclopedic sports knowledge? No matter the sport or team or player, they just know everything. Like who that team they bought last year, what they paid, how that player has been performing in practice, how they synergize with their teammates and the coach and how that may affect some upcoming match and how that counter player position may take advantage of whatever the fuck he's had for breakfast and last week he got a speeding ticket and he in general doesn't get along with his dad.

Help please?

And if he had been talking about his favorite team in one sport i would understand that. He's a fan. But he knew everything. Cycling, football(both bundesliga dvisions, several teams, upcoming and past matches), basketball, ralley drivers, hockey, handball. All over the course of 2 or 3 15 min conversations. What stunned me wasn't just the sheer volume of knowledge but the fact that he usually isn't that bright and even has trouble operating his fucking radio without cutting out several times mid communication. But he knows literally everything about all kinds of sports.

You guys probably have a ton of these lol. And if you're older to the point where it would be underdiagnosed, sports is a socially acceptable hyperfocus for high-functioning autistic people

Some people are just really good at sports trivia. Ironically, despite watching a lot of sports and being great at general trivia, I'm not good at sports trivia.

Some people get autistic over such things desu, though I feel like I know a fair bit of trivia since you pick it up while watching or whenever I'm bored at work I just read up team/player history
>tfw you're watching something and the commentator gets some fact wrong but no one corrects him
I distinctly recall during one of the Super Bowl coverages here they got the number of owls Brady had won at that point wrong (said 3, but it was 4)

It is good ol' 'tism. There are many reasons why someone watches sports. Could be liking the athletics feats, camaraderie, stats, storylines. All of that adds to memorizing all that stuff

>>149142432
>tfw you mention to your pals some sort of trivia while watching a game about how if X happens it will be the first time in Y years than someone from Z country has done that and then just one minute later the commentators says the same thing
>he is being paid for knowing the same stuff you do

I know everything about football but can also tell that Thorkildsen was a elite javeline thrower and that the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings had a epic rivarly in the late 90’s with players like Sakic, Lidstrom etc and that Len Bias after he got drafted by Boston died from cocaine abuse and changed NBA history with that.
