Sports work best when there is a salary cap and a quasi-socialist system (e.g. revenue sharing, draft system, etc) which produce high pairty between teams.
The European system for soccer almost invariably centralizes money and talent into a handful (or possibly just one) team per league. Promotion/Relegation is irrelevant since these teams dominate the other farmers who are of no concern or importance.
This is why American Sports are so much more interesting as almost any team can win it any year, but you know that 90% of the time baynern will win bundes (and they are driven by the bavarian inferiority complex to the rest of germany having lost to prussia), madrid or barcelona will win leliga, PSG will win the french league, etc.
The only league with decent competition is the EPL and this is because they are more fair with revenue sharing, whereas leliga rigs everything for barca/real madrid (in part out of an inferiority complex to anglos/germanics, but also as part of a leliga/UEFA project to capture market share, hence the CLmaxxing they have engaged in)
