What would happen if MLS added relegation and a lower division?

Congratulations, you just shrunk the number of franchises in the MLS by the number of relegation spots. Is that what you wanted? No American multi-millionaire or Fortune 500 company is going to sponsor a team with limited visibility and TV exposure.

it would make the millionaires pullt out and it would also inject some soul into american sports so for both of those reasons it will never happen

It's not happening in MLS but the true SOVL of US footy is in USL and they have pro/rel

i dont know why foreigners are so obsesed with relegation, all your leagues are farmers leagues where 1-2 teams dominated, with the exception of the prem (because money is more distributed)

salary caps and revenue sharing are 100x more important than relegation/promotion

Vice versa with promotion/relegation an owner could be incentivized to buy a low level team at a discount and proceed to build them up to an MLS level team thereby reaping the benefits of a top level team but with a much lower cost of entry
