how did the NFL become so superior to the other US sports?
>most watched
>most talked about
>best production
>best draft
it used to be the 3rd or even 4th most popular sport, now it's so clearly #1 baseball, basketball, and hockey are fighting for #2. Now even college football is more popular than other sports.
it has been the most popular since the super bowls started mate. football as a whole has been popular since the late 1800s, schools like michigan have been playing that sport for nearly 150 years
Good question it happened with Brady riggi
NFL films were really big in it picking up steam in the 70s and it was seen as a "man's game"
>>149455114it was popular, but still among the other sports and it and baseball were still in the same league. the NFL really soared in the 2000s to the point where it's not even close anymore.
>>149455207Only since 2010 has it been over and above the other 3 major leagues. It used to be something only coalminers and rednecks watched now every demographic does.
>>149455207in the 21st century it's at a completely different level. they've been innovating the way they market and show the NFL and it still seems the other sports are so far behind.
Just compare the drafts of the 4 sports. The NFL draft is so much better.

Note how peaceful baseball is, from a time when America was an isolationist power wanting to be left alone to enjoy life

NFL teams have been better than other leagues at getting local and state governments to subsidize their stadiums. That gave the teams more money to develop the product on the field, which in turn increased fandom, making the media rights insanely valuable.
national tv deal unlike other leagues that have 1000+ games so they cant all be broadcast, higher production values
games on during daytime during weekends so bigger potential audience
revenue sharing of the tv deal and a salary cap so smaller market teams can be competitive
most important games are december/january, people are going to be inside and watch tv anyways
constant breaks so casuals can understand what just happened
>>149455035 (OP)Rigged league to prop up Dynasties as more marketable is why i like NFL
Handegg really took off when the TV became commonplace in America and the radio started dying out. Baseball is a chore to watch if you aren't in the stadium, but it's perfect for radio. Hockey is bad for radio and TV, just too hard for the average person to follow. Basketball also got a lot of benefit from TV but the NBA being such a shitshow until the late 70s meant it lagged behind football, which was pretty structurally sound by then. So tl;dr TV did it and no other sport was able to take advantage of TV.
Football had already evolved into a perfect organism to rake in revenue for TV long before its invention or anyone knowing better. Most of the commercials simply take advantage of the natural stoppages that were always there.
Because you are dumb cattle
Watch your commercials, goy
>>149455233Because of the Patriots dynasty. People like a champion and every season was about the Patriots and who could challenge them.
At the same time period the Yankees dropped off, the nba became about the players not the teams, and hockey has no dynastic champions
