we still are. The only thing that changed is that now european football teams are either State sponsored teams, like Real Madrid and Barcelona, oil teams like City and PSG, or one league team where every thing in the country handled to them, like happens with Bayern, it's kinda impossible to compete when you have a league with 12 big teams like we have.

Very easily explainable, the social fabric in Brazilian society has degraded beyond recognition in the past 20 years, now football clubs will sell off their talent to Europe for dirt cheap in exchange for kickbacks and other corrupt practices leaving us with a degraded and rusty football scene where most players in the national team have loyalties to their teams in Europe rather than whatever neighborhood they grew up playing in.
Truth of the matter is, Brazil is the new Uruguay when it comes to World Cups, our best days are far behind us and we have no chance of winning a new cup with the way our football is currently managed and frankly Brazilians deserve to suffer and be humiliated globally until their social fabric is healed.

The rest have always acted like subhuman animals and were proud of that. Uruguayans are psychopaths. Chileans tried to kill the Italian NT. Argentinians cheated against England and it became the greatest accomplishment in the history of their nation, even overshadowing their final. It was their revenge.
But Brazil were never like that. We beat Sweden at their own home but celebrated with them, our players carrying their flag on the pitch. We caused heartbreak to Italians twice and they're not mad at us. The Germans didn't see the 7-1 as a vengeance or anything. Brazilian players and fans used to be so charismatic, people weren't even mad when they lost to us. It must be disappointing for everyone who used to admire us.

If anythin got exposed is the notion that European football is a chasm above. The big 5 teams are, but Brazil has definitely shown it would get consistent Top 8 UCL finishes if our teams competed in it, with an occasion miracle run to the finals like BVB's last year.
