No one who talks about Ronaldinho talks about his longevity, it's about the peak of his skills. To me he is in the top 5 highests individual peaks of the game. I haven't seen many players consistently make other top players look like clowns like Ronaldinho did. Even when he was having a bad game there were always a few moments per game where he would do something the average "star" player at the time couldn't.

I'm not being dishonest. The WC has always been taken into account. Zidane won the BdO in 98, Ronaldo in 02, Canavaro in 06, Modrić in 2018.
The biggest discrepancies were 2010 when Messi got it and 2014 when Ronaldo got it. Both had amazing individual seasons.
In the case of Messi, he was by far the best player in Barcelona (even Xavi and Iniesta discussed who'd be second after Messi at the time) and it's also clear as day that Iniesta and Xavi split the WC votes between them.

Salah is great but Ronaldinho was something else. He would have put out different numbers in todays games.

The WC might be enough (it was in R9's case, who barely played club football in the year he won it as he was coming back from an injury), or might not be. And whatever the case, Messi didn't just have the WC when he won the BdO, he also had a very respectable individual season outside of it.

I'm too young to have experienced fenomeno but at least I got to experience gaucho. You can win leagues even if you have a player that don't show up for big games. Håland and Salah has won cup finals and CL finals despite not contributing in any of the finals. But to win in those games you need a good team that can carry them in those big games, in exchange you get to win league games easier since they go wild in those. When you don't have a good enough team to carry big game chokers you end up with a Kane situation where the trophy cabinet is a little light.
