Baresi's absolute interpretation of his role is what makes him a fascinating (and terribly dominant) player. Obviously, physically, it's from another era and it's incomparable, but no one has led a defense better than him, if only for the way he used the offside line and dictated it to others.
I'll give you that Baresi would probably be ridiculous in today's football given his physical limitations, but he was such a dominant player for almost 10 years. Maldini is a tremendous player, but well, when you move back to the wing because someone else prefers you in the center, I'm sorry, but he isnt the same breed.
TLDR: Maldini is a lesser Baresi. Clone a perfect CB brain into a current player? You take Baresi. All time.
