not only were the big teams all stacked but even the midtable teams would occasionally have a world class player or two which is unheard of these days

Even Keane was in awe of Maldins aura. Something telling about the most arrogant teams hardman captain being taken aback by the opposition before even hitting the pitch

I"ll give it a try.
Baresi's absolute interpretation of his role is what makes him a fascinating (and terribly dominant) player. Obviously, physically, it's from another era and it's incomparable, but no one has led a defense better than him, if only for the way he used the offside line and dictated it to others.

I'll give you that Baresi would probably be ridiculous in today's football given his physical limitations, but he was such a dominant player for almost 10 years. Maldini is a tremendous player, but well, when you move back to the wing because someone else prefers you in the center, I'm sorry, but he isnt the same breed.

TLDR: Maldini is a lesser Baresi. Clone a perfect CB brain into a current player? You take Baresi. All time.
Anonymous France No.149746759 [Report]
>>149746457
Baresi is (along with Nesta) the only guy besides Ramos who has managed an elite central defense over the long term, capable of winning over very long periods. Maldini played left back, except for a few seasons. Yet 100% respect for Maldini.

Why is it that, not only i can name every player that was shown here( that can be explained easily cause i was 10 then, peak years for following football) but every player there had aura, swagger, proven ability and seems like basically all of them are stars, compared to teams now where it feels like they are all frauds with occasional fraud with superstar treatment? Is it just nostalgia

Were these players really better or do we only think that because of nostalgia. Will future generations look back at this PSG and Chelsea team and think "Dembele, Palmer, Enzo, Hakimi, wish i could have seen them play!"?
