The South Americans made it worthwhile with their passion and the upsets they could pull, but generally, nobody needs another tournament where you know it's likely that the final will be UEFA vs UEFA. You already have the CL for that
This tournament created more hype than the old format, but the old format was superior all in all. It had more sports-related value because you knew who was supposed to be there: the continental champs. It also fit into the schedule better
This right here was a Saudi investment, and you could feel the soullessness despite the South American effort

Spot on. There was no need for this bloated expansion. If they had to expand it in any way, put it to 8. Six confederation winners + reigning CWC champions + host nation representative. Have a group stage, top 2 of each group go through to semi-finals. Still gives each team three games at least.
