They are unironically the two most genetically gifted athletes of all time and there is no debate about that. No one will dominate his respective sport the way they did, ever. The uncontested GOATs of their sports.
>>149816235 (OP)One of these is genetically gifted, the other was just gifted
>>149816235 (OP)Gretzky is more impressive than either of them
what about the jumper whose record still stands 30 and some years later or the dude that sets a new pole vault record every time he jumps?
If it's just about dominating their field, it's Duplantis. Without a doubt it's Duplantis. He turned every single competition not into "Who will win?" because it's a literal guarantee he will win, but into "Will he break the world record again?", which he often does.
I donr rhink olympic athletes will reach the admiration they had while they were active.
>>149816235 (OP)Quintessentially queenslander Gout Gout gonna break his records soon
>>149816235 (OP)One is only famous because his discipline has a bunch of novelty competitions
If you can win several medals a day several days in a row, you know something is off with the format

OP is correct especially with Bolt. I would argue no athletic event encapsulates pure athleticism better than the sprinting competitions. The guy saying Gretzky and the guy saying Duplantis are both stupid because sports like hockey are more about craft than raw athleticism and pole vaulting is heavily technique based and requires an external object outside of the body. If you are talking dominance in a specific sport you can argue a lot of different people, but if you are arguing pure athleticism OP is correct.
Bolt is goated. Phelps will only be remembered as le weed and 10k calories a day guy
Someone post that pic of running records with all the names that were caught doping crossed out, and only bolt remaining
>>149821473He would still be better than the others even if he doped
>B-but the others were cleanGeg
>>149820970He's right mate. Doesn't make the guy any less of an athlete but they definitely hand out way too many medals in swimming. Swimming has almost as many medals as ALL athletics combined which have much, much greater variation in between them than the different swimming competitions (sprints, hurdles, marathon, walking, all the different fucking jumping and throwing competitions, etc.)
>>149822268It’s like being a boxer and having a medal opportunity for each round. Or them letting you compete in whatever weight class you feel like. Swimming was rigged so it would give Americans medals
>>149821317Modern shoes give athletes a big advantage in sprinting, to the point where Bolt's records will probably fall some day when the technology advances enough.
>>149822268You only bring it up because the average person doesn't pay attention to swimming besides the Olympics. If it were a better spectator sport in some parallel universe where everyone watched swimmers instead of soccer players then the whole thing would be justified. But here is one of the few things where popular opinion doesn't get in the way of a good thing and dare I say tradition. Any athlete in their lives finds themselves in a pool doing laps because it's the best way to train and doesn't cripple your body like weight training and running do. If you have a problem with the disciplines and how it all comes together into one cohesive contest to be the best part of the Olympics then you have a problem with the Olympics themselves because it's always been a part of it since forever ago. The heats, the times, seeing how each swimmer fits in a nation's swim team as a whole, it's all part of it. Other sports have too many variables to make such a thing possible. You can always produce a different medal count and go by that if you want. But a medal is a medal.100m backstroke is completely different than 800m freestyle. And let's be honest it's good drama and the Aussies are joining the party now. Maybe it's because Australians have good taste in sports, who knows? But euros need to put their soccer balls and pub games down and start playing real sports that matter.
>>149816235 (OP)Lasha Talakhadze has not lost a single competition between 2015 and 2024. A single event between 2016 and 2023. Neither Phelps nor Bolt have dominated their sports as long as Lasha did.
>>149821317bolt was obviously doped, as was most of jamaican team. Gretzky is a superhuman
>>149822539>>149821473Everyone is doping in high level competition, if they aren't then they aren't trying hard enough. It's clear as day when you look at the amount of previous bans someone has or genetic anomalies having TUE for shit like asthma.
>>149822494Also doped to the gills, however it's a different sport which doesn't require the speed of a young person so his career can be longer, just like a snooker player can play into his 60's. But yes he has completely dominated OLY liting.
>>149816235 (OP)Phelps is so goated, can't think of anyone who has been as good at so many different strokes as he was.
>>149816235 (OP)Both on roids.
Everyone bolt beaten on some races was caught for drugs, and Phelps had adhd and asthma and other shit like that.
Two roidheads.
/sp/ee , specially the American part, is not ready for this discussion but sports that relies too much on physical performance like athletics, swimming, weight lifting, etc. shouldn't be taken seriously in the 21th century. There is just too much doping in these sports for anyone with half a brain to think any gold medalist is "clean".
We should priorize sports that are about dexterity like gymnastic, archery, etc.
Americans will not accept this because they are the king of doping, their favorite sports are full of doping (American Football, Baseball), and some American "legends" like Phelps would be exposed.
Loeb mogg them without peds
>>149826864>We should priorize sports that are about dexterity like gymnastic, archery, etc.You are dumb, you still can get a big edge with doping/drugs
