It started as joke from the movie Dodgeball, playing off of the fact that ESPN has sequentially numbered TV channels, wherein each channel broadcasts increasingly obscure sports. Part of the joke is that something as little as their eighth channel has its own trademark line. Beginning around 10 years ago on the 8th of August, the real ESPN rebrands itself as ESPN8 for a one-day event.
Also the word “ocho” sounds cold as fuck.
