Baseball is wood, mud from a creek in new jersey (special mud from mystery creek rubbed on every ball), pine tar, and dirt

Soccer is plastic, oil money, and rigging

The sooner baseball becomes the world's game the better. Though it will be an uphill battle... soccer has the power. In the end I guess we'll get an answer to the time old question:

Can SOVL defeat naked raw power?

thats second worse. teams have 90+ sometimes 120+ to avoid penalties. play the game instead of flopping around inbetween light jogs.
but i would abolish shootouts also. take one player off the field every 5 minutes until someone scores. it will never get past 5v5 and its still soccer.

the real problem with the DH is that pitchers are often fantastic athletes who can hit okay if they put in the work. combine that with the fact that there arent enough good hitters to fill out 30 rosters and every team has 1 or 2 guys who hit like pitchers anyway. literally nothing is gained.
theres also a bunch of little stuff thats lost like pitchers throwing too hard and wild because they arent worried about catching one in the ribs the next time theyre up.
and literally everyone ageees that a pitcher hit is one of the most fun plays in sports. almost nothing tops a pitcher HR or triple. whole thing is a scam to protect pitchers because theyre overpaid and owners can stomach them being on the bench because they tweaked something batting.

why not a designated short stop?
all the same justifications apply. trae turner is a butcher. no one wants to see bad fielding. the fielding and hitting will be better if there are specialists. football does exactly this and everyone loves it.

I understand people who harken back to the days when pitchers weren't complete bums at the plate, but fact of the matter is they became worse and worse hitters every year and by the 2010s they had like a negative 20 wRC+, non factors.

>they just didn't put in the work
just means the work wasn't worth it, and it was getting less worth it every single season both as specialization in pitching became a priority and also because pitchers just threw fewer innings, so even starting pitchers might get 2 at bats a game, often just 1, simply not worth it to put any effort into improving their hitting at that point. Watching pitchers "hit" was simply not a good product and getting worse every year

because position players still prioritize being as good as they can be at defense. Offense is [generally] the main priority but it's still worth it for them to be good fielders as well, fielding is still a valued skill.

Pitchers did not give one single shit about being good batters, it was not a skill that mattered for them or for their teams. If they could hit a little bit it was a nice bonus but it was not a necessary skill, half of pitchers didn't never even tried to swing in recent years, just wasn't worth the injury risk for their actual job. Watching pitchers hit was a joke.

pitcher offense was in decline long before the introduction of the DH, why do you think the DH was implemented in the first place?
With pitchers going less and less deep into games they would get 1 or 2 at bats per game. They, and more importantly their teams and front offices, would absolutely not care about how well they hit. It's simply not important enough when you might get 50 at bats in a season and the difference between hitting .000 and .150 is almost nothing, a handful of singles a season. Not worth the injury risk nor the effort to improve that could be spent getting better at pitching instead.

we have no evidence of what it looks like when a pitcher bats in every game he pitches starting at 8 years old. except for ohtani. abolish the DH at all levels and pitchers will get better at hitting out of necessity.
and watching pitchers bat was a lot more fun than watching absolute bums like Kepler and Peraza and the 2 or 3 guys on every roster that dont deserve to wear a uniform. at least pitchers arent expected to hit well.

in 1973 the red sox threw 63 complete games. the DH was originally implemented as a meme because baseball was getting stale. the NL added it decades later because the minor league DH ruined all the pitchers and owners didnt want their $30m arms exposed to batting injuries. thats a bullshit non sport reason and it should be reversed so we can get back to playing baseball the right way.

we're not comparing Cole and Judge. were comparing Cole and Peraza.
I think the excitement of a pitcher having success at the plate far outwieghs the neglible offensive contributions of the typical 8 or 9 hitter.

can you adjust for managers taking the bat out of the pitchers hands with sacrifices and taking strikes?
im not suggesting that pitchers would be better than the shitty fielders who replaced them at the end of the lineup, only that they would be good enough to muddle through and occasionally do something great. at least pitchers have an excuse for not being great. no excuse for habing .203 max kelper in your lineup. if you dont have someone in the farm who can do that you should fire everyone

the reason pitcher hits are fun are because they're so rare, but I guess if it's worth it to you... For me it's not much different than getting some random dude in the stands to take 1 at bat per game, sure everyone in the park will be hype as fuck if he somehow gets a hit but 99 times out of 100 he won't do shit. I for one will gladly sacrifice the handful of times per season where a pitcher got a big hit for not having to watch the other thousands of wasted at bats. Also, Ohtani being able to DH is worth more to the pitcher batting world than every single pre-DH pitcher at bat put together.
