last night was a real wake-up call for me, might actually stop watching this sport for the rest of the year. yeah my team got fucking drubbed, but the quality of footy has been dreadful this year even outside of that. i can't even stand watching neutral games because they're all one-sided. hell, i can't even stand watching my own side or the other teams i like. there's still only three real contenders for the flag (bane, pies, cats). even so, you might be able to rule bane or the cats out, so that makes it even more one-sided. everyone else in the eight are absolute pretenders who won't make it to the last day in september, and everyone outside of the top nine are complete shambles. a lot of teams have been utterly raped by injury.
i don't know what needs to be done to make next year better. i would start with scrapping opening round, i feel like the shorter off-season has contributed to the injury crisis at a number of clubs. if they want to capture the northern market more then just do a gather round type deal in sydney or brisbane, don't fuck with player fitness by shortening the off-season. a lot needs to be done with umpiring, we need consistency rather than up to interpretation. fire nick foot immediately.

will always love the /alf/ community but i might actually go over to the dark side, the nrlel. the nrl has been way more even of a comp this year, biggest mixup to the top eight in ages. only sad thing is that even in the nrlel my team is shit (cowboys) but at least neutral games are actually entertaining and not one-sided stomps most of the time.
