The NFL has purchased 10% of ESPN in exchange for turning over the NFL Network and NFL RedZone to Disney. I mention it because it could result in ESPN pushing NFL products more during college broadcasts. Though it's only 10% ownership of ESPN, it will give the NFL a say in college coverage and contracts.

Seems weird that ESPN doesn't have a RedZone channel for /cfb/. I understand they can't have complete coverage because unlike the NFL, college football is split up into ten conferences in FBS, but the number of teams in the conferences ESPN does own the rights to exceeds the size of the NFL. Plus most games are on Saturday, while the NFL spreads their games out more. Makes me wonder if they had an agreement with the NFL or were scared of somehow getting sued (dumber things have been patented) if they did a /cfb/ RedZone type channel.

I'm thinking more along the lines of the announcers constantly mentioning what's going on the NFL instead of talking about the game they're announcing. This already happens during bowl season when bowl games are on networks that want to push the NFL and see their bowl coverage as a way to do that.

At least it's only for one year and it's Tech's home game, so it can be blamed on them. The corporate name is clunky but having the game in the Falcons stadium makes it unworthy of having the rivalry name. Tech is already whoring out their stadium name to Hyundai.
Then again, UGA is the one responsible for playing their game against Florida in that corporate robobutthole the next year instead of jumping on the opportunity to have it in Athens while Jax's stadium is under construction.

The whatever sponsor bowl name is the name of the Atlanta regular season game. It will be the same name next year when Florida/Georgia do it and whatever else matchup they have the year after. They are not referring to Georgia-Tech as this bowl name as a replacement for COFH and refer to it as such even in the description for this. Why the fuck are we rating Texas like this. They lost their entire offensive and defensive lines. And the 2 dbs they lost accounted for literally 10 interceptions between them. Texas is set for a down year. I will admit that they are going to be scary in 26 with a second year starting arch and virtually the whole defense is back except for Anthony hill and a couple extremely over rated DBs

That's actually debatable. If Deloitte actually cracks down on their NIL cap, Texas is one of the schools that could get burnt.
Also, their WR room just doesn't look great. Sark was at his best when he had elite separators like Mitchell & Worthy. Bond & Bolden were heavily underutilized this season and now he's out of speed demons.

If Deloitte does anything it will only be to new deals. Anything signed before the House settlement is grandfathered, meaning Deloitte can't touch them. If Texas and other contenders were smart they gave their current roster + class of 2026 commits nice deals before the settlement, which will allow them to focus most of their rev share on class of 2027 players and beyond since the older players are already taken care of with grandfathered NIL deals. That strategy would buy you a few years of basically double dipping on payroll.

Lol well the โ€œsalary capโ€ shit is not happening and it would btfo all of the top teams pretty equally I think.

Seems like there has been a conscious decision by Texas to prioritize big receivers and move away from speed burners. The thinking probably has to do with wanting an effective screen game because they know they arenโ€™t running the ball against elite defenses like Georgia taught them twice. Even with an O line with a lot of NFL guys it didnโ€™t matter

We'll see. I could easily see nothing happening but there is a world where Deloitte comes in kicking and screaming to prevent themselves from getting NCAA'd.

It just seems like a terrible strategy to me. Sark's Bama offense, and imo his 2023 offense, were exactly the kind of offenses that UGA struggles with. I know Waddle & Smith don't exactly grow on trees, but 50/50 guys that don't create much separation aren't going to help much against Cover 7, especially considering UGA has some freak corners like Daniel Harris at 6'3.

This whole Trannyhan shit he's doing just feels off base. Also feels like a big waste of Arch Manning. I feel like last season was a waste of Ewers, guy looked great when he was dropping back more.

And it's why when he was golfing this spring and his agent called to let him know Tennessee was interested in him as a Nico Iamaleava replacement, he didn't even wait to hear what the offer was. He was more worried about hitting his tee shot.

Florida has more rivals that hate them than any other team in any other sport at any level. All the following teams hate Florida: FSU, Miami, UGA Tenn, Auburn, LSU, Kentucky
2nd tier of haters arent rivals but hate us cause they lost to us: Ohio St, Oklahoma, UCLA, etc
Liberals hate the entire state because politics and extends this to UF

Its odd seeing the media and neutrals hate Florida and suck off LSU every year when LSU consistently has the most fight starting, mouth running, thuggish players, fans, and admin whereas Florida players and admin are always humble, celebrate amongst themselves, talk no trash, are good sports, etc.

Walter Clayton consoles the losing player Sharp after winning the title and Florida is hated. LSU players shove players with cheap shots after losing and get praised.

Its incredibly tiring. LSU disappearing would improve the sport 10 fold overnight. They have far surpassed Notre Dame as the media suck off team

ULM's athletic director has resigned in protest of the school's president demanding a $9 million cut to the athletics department's $20.9 million budget. Already the smallest budget in FBS, the $9 million cut would bring the department's budget down to Division II level funding. The school only spends $8 million on the football program. To understand how small this is for FBS, Arch Manning's NIL package is worth $6.8 million on its own.
Only one FCS program, Mississippi Valley State, would have a smaller budget than ULM if the cuts are enacted. The FCS average is around $37 million.

Louisiana has too many small schools. ULM is thirty minutes from La Tech, which itself is four miles away from Grambling State. None of them are near anything of consequence. ULM has less than 8k undergrads. Grambling has about 5k, and Tech about 10k. I understand the political and historical reasons for having three schools in the same area but none of them are really doing well.
Because of the race issue, no one is going to want to touch Grambling but ULM really shouldn't exist. Long ago when it was a junior college and Tech was a mechanical school, them being different entities made sense. Now they're both comprehensive universities. Move ULM's academic programs to Tech. These aren't destination schools, they places students go because they couldn't go anywhere better. Anyone going to ULM could as easily go to Tech.

LOL, she has a grandchild so probably a bit older than that. Then again, it's Louisiana...
>A trailblazer throughout her career, Dr. Castille has been the first woman to hold several influential leadership roles: she was the first female director of NIFA, the first female inductee into the University of Louisiana Lafayette College of Engineering Hall of Distinction (2017), and now serves as the first female president of the University of Louisiana Monroe.
She might be good at what she does but her bio sounds like someone getting promoted mostly for DEI reasons. As far as ULM goes, wonder if the school has a budget problem and she saw raiding the athletics department as a quick and easy way of plugging the hole. From what I can tell, she's mostly worked as an administrator of government farm programs, and has no experience with managing athletics. Or maybe she sees sports as a dead end at ULM and this is a prelude to cutting them entirely.
Students recently approved a new athletics fee to pay for a video scoreboard in the basketball arena and a sports nutrition program for the athletes.

FBS increasing the scholarship limits from 85 to 105 means adding twenty more scholarships to the football team. For schools like ULM that are 2/3rds women, it also means adding thirty more non-revenue sports scholarships for women. That means adding more women's sports, which means more facilities. ULM exists in FBS mostly as a punching bag for money but it's questionable if the amount the get from playing money games and the Sun Belt's media contract really make it worthwhile.
The big problem is that stepping down to FCS or eliminating athletics does not eliminate the debt on all the facilities they have. Maybe some of them can be repurposed for other uses but what do you do with 30k capacity stadium in the middle of nowhere? Not sure if they'd have to pay an exit fee to the Sun Belt if they're not going to another FBS conference.
ULM's most successful athletics program is their water skiing team, which isn't an NCAA sport. That means they could eliminate NCAA sports without losing water skiing.

None of the boys or young men in my family have any desire to go to college. They see it as expensive and don't see it as a ticket to pussy, so why bother? My nieces though, they see it as a big party and want to go. It's crazy to hear them talk about going off to college because neither of them ever mentions what's they're interested in learning, just all the fun they can have.
The only growth I can see is with immigrants whose families still see being "the first to graduate college" as a status indicator.

>In the first nine months of 2024, 28 degree-granting institutions closed, compared with 15 in all of 2023, according to an analysis of federal data provided to The Hechinger Report.
>Over 80 more schools are expected to close their doors in the next few years. The primary driver is the "demographic cliff" as middle class families that make up the bulk of the student population have fewer children. The rapidly growing size of administration and health care costs are also major factors.

Worst thing that could happen to Auburn would be to go 7-5, with them retaining Freeze. Alumni are very unhappy, donations have dried up, and interest is at an all time low. If Freeze is retained, the school may lose many supporters permanently.
Athletic Director (((John Cohen))) severely underestimated how conservative Auburn is and how many would be more turned off by a creep that forces underage girls to undress for him than by losing games. Of course Freeze managed to do both.

Jeremiah Smith 1000
Jeremiah Smith 1000
md5: 724e9a2b4059a54e87f10b347db6331d๐Ÿ”
How college football's best WR Jeremiah Smith signed with Adidas while starring for Nike-based Ohio State

Smith has signed with Adidas, a major move for ahead of college football's 2025 season. Smith registered 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 TDs last season as a 5-star true freshman sensation for the national champions, who are a unanimous top 5 team ahead of the new campaign.

How does that work?
>CBS spoke to a source with knowledge of the agreement, who acknowledged Smith would still wear Nike with the Buckeyes this season.
>"Off the field, Jeremiah will be in Adidas product, along with any brand marketing (spots) and individual social media posts," the source said.

Does off the field include when he's sitting on the sideline in street clothes injured or when he's getting off the team plane in front of all the cameras?

The source noted that a similar scenario previously unfolded for current WNBA rookie Hailey Van Lith, who initially transferred from Louisville -- an Adidas school -- to Nike-sponsored LSU (a Nike school)... Van Lith's NIL deal with Adidas carried over to Baton Rouge

"One of the most memorable moments from last season was losing my black stripe and officially becoming a Buckeye," Smith said in a press release. "Fast forward a year and I'm blessed to be adding three, joining the fastest brand in football. It's crazy to be partnering with a brand that has such a talented roster of players and that I've been wearing since I was a young kid. We're not done yet."

Smith told The Athletic of his new deal that being a part of the brand was "something special" as his football career continues to leap forward.

"I've been wearing Adidas since I was a young kid, 11, 10 years old," Smith said.

Smith joins an Adidas portfolio that includes Mahomes, Travis Hunter and former Ohio State stars Garrett Wilson and Emeka Egbuka. He shattered numerous freshman program records in 2024 and is one of this fall's Heisman frontrunners

Yes, it's a vocation that usually isn't difficult to find a job doing but isn't going to make very much money in the middle of nowhere in Mississippi. It really comes down to how much do they charge in tuition and how much loan money the student take out to live on during barber college.
Tuition and fees for the twelve month program are $17,500, plus whatever money the student needs for rent, food, etc. if they're not living with someone covering those costs. Can't imagine the cost of living in Greenville, Mississippi is very high so maybe $1500 per month? That's almost $36,000 in loans to become a barber.
Their loan payment with a ten year payback will be $414. If they stay in the area, they need about $2k/month take home from being a barber. Seems doable as average barber pay in Mississippi is $4100/month. Given the rural area and being that they're just starting out, maybe $3k per month, leaving $1000 for lifestyle and savings. Not great but not bad, especially for the middle of nowhere.

ULM is making the football coach double as the athletic director. Back before 2000 this used to be common since football was the largest sport but that also ended up being a problem as it got some schools in trouble for lack of oversight on everything non-football and of course football tended to get all the resources, often in violation of Title IX.
For ULM, it's probably about saving money. As long as he lets the water skiing team get what it wants, doubt anyone is going to care if the women's golf team doesn't get new drivers because the football team needed a new set of water coolers.

We opened a pretty big gap for him (I can say we because I was the lead block on the OL). He didn't puke all over himself like the Houston guy. He turned his head to the side and launched a stream of puke. Before the snap I remember hearing retching, my QB asking the RB "You good bro?" then the cadence. In college I had an OL teammate who would deliberately piss himself during practice and games just to fuck with defensive players.

Just go before games or during halftime for the most part. Usually you're sweating out so much liquid you don't have to piss much during games or practice. The guy who deliberately pissed himself would drink a ton of water right before and deliberately hold it in until practice/games started. If a player had to shit during practice the coaches would let him run over to the locker room, which was connected to our practice field. That was pretty rare though.

If you had to take a leak in college they always made you go to the locker room. Too many people around who might complain to someone if we just whipped it out and went anywhere outside (student trainers, students helping film practice, media, AD administrators and so on). In high school we just ran behind the equipment storage shed and pissed on it. If we had any guests at practice they couldn't see back there.

Do football players like playing football? My best friend who was the star linebacker didn't seem to enjoy it the way he talked about it. And it kind of doesn't look like fun to play, even before I knew you might have to grapple with someone who intentionally pisses himself. Seems like running into people would get old after 3 or 4 practices.

>worst ratio of practice to games

>most injuries
>unless you go to the NFL you can't really keep playing after college the way you can with adult basketball or baseball or hockey leagues
Despite all of that I still loved playing. If I had a respawn knowing what I know now I would play football again. There's nothing like running out of the tunnel or helping score the gamewinning TD.

You get to do things to people that would be illegal outside a football field. I'll never forget the play I literally KO'd a blitzing LB who didn't keep his head on a swivel and ragdolled him. It was the kind of play that made everyone in the stadium go "Ooooohhhhhhh!" Pancakes on lead blocks felt amazing, especially when you hear your RB following behind you give a muffled excited shout through his mouthpiece. Locking down the pass rush long enough for the QB to hit a WR deep downfield was awesome. You also make a lot of friends, which has always been difficult for me. And if you're a big boy (also me) it gets your ass in shape and changes your size from something that gets you bullied into something that pays for your degree.

Itโ€™s part of the routine, go to school you have to play football. If you donโ€™t play football, whatโ€™s the point of even going to school? To learn? Teachers are all fuck ups and retards who flunked out of real majors or just went to school to find a husband or slut it up away from home. Playing football was what you did for that perpetual hall pass, it was the price you paid for being treated like a human. The patches on your letter jacket gave you a voice.

The CTE dreams and waking up at 3:15 in the morning unsure whether or not you pissed yourself or if thatโ€™s just your brain fucking up your exocrine system kinda sucks, but the alternative is way worse. Objectively. Just look at the /r9k/ me so ronery crowd. Men who donโ€™t get laid in high school canโ€™t make it through the day.

Reminds me of an Iron Bowl back in the 80s. The rain was so heavy that the tv cameras could barely see the field. There was a tornado warning and this was back when an actual tornado had to be spotted to issue one, none of this "radar indicates a possible tornado somewhat" crap they do now.
The stands were still full and the players were still playing. Today they issue a lightning delay if within the last hour someone left a fork in their microwave and it generated sparks.

If it comes to that, Louisiana Tech and ULL probably would be leaned on by the state government to pressure the conference to let Monroe go without penalty. Given how poor ULM is, it's likely that the state government would have to bail them out on the fees. The eastern schools might be ok with waiving it just to be rid of that school. And it would give them a chit to use later.

Helmet tech and rule changes both have made it far safer. Aftercare for injuries is also better.
Doubt walk-ons will happen much at P2 schools anymore. The House settlement changed rosters from being 125 max with 85 scholarships to 105 max, all allowed scholarship. Schools can choose to not give a scholarship to some of its players, but only poor schools needing to save money would do that. P2 schools will fill their rosters and at the bare minimum, give them all scholarships. Eliminating the distraction of minor money issues is worth it to the school.
There might be a few openings for walk-ons when someone gets injured or drops out for other reasons, but that's very different than when there were up to forty of them. And generally if you're good enough to get NIL money, you're good enough for a scholarship.
You're right that this is a golden age for playing football. Lower risk, higher reward. Eventually the wild west of payouts will be tamed, and the money will still be good but players like Arch Manning likely won't get as much a decade from now (inflation adjusted).

When instead the PAC12 just picked the best of the Mountain West, and his team wasn't one of them, suddenly the whole thing was evil. Truth is the bottom of the conference had been draining the top schools and now that's ending. The Mountain West will fall in prestige and the programs in it will slide further down the G6 ladder, closer to CUSA territory.
