Wait.... do Brits seriously not drink while watching the game? You aren't allow to have a beer at your seat???

The Premier League is infamous for sucking the fun and soul out of football. They sell their soul and eagerly take random tourists over loyal supporters because tourists tend to spend more on average since it's an "event" for them
High ticket prices, no standing sections, no beer. But tons of event zones like at Tottenham's stadium, where you can spend a lot of money on 5000 things. I may be living in yesteryear, but I will always prefer a stadium where everything revolves around the actual sport ... and where you can hear that during the game as well
But granted, all of that selling out business has ensured that the Premier League is the richest and most competitive league today. Hardly any of the clubs are owned by Brits, and none are fan-owned, but the league itself is a good product. The Bundesliga has cheap tickets, the stadiums are full and loud, the clubs are usually fan-owned. But I don't see why any non-German would watch it, and the quality is certainly below the Premier League. I guess you have to suffer one way or the other

Ever since Hillsborough, politicians and officials have vowed to stamp hooliganism out of the game. The ultimate result is that matches are now safe to attend, but utterly soulless. Nothing. You can even buy beer inside the stadium in the concourse, you're just not allowed to bring your drink to your seat. So you will have to down your drink before the match starts, and if you buy a drink at half time then you need to down it before you head back to your seat. Yes, it's absolutely retarded, blame Liverpool fans for the law being introduced.

Projection master here, I see
I don't think it's perfect, I'm the first one to think ultras get too much leverage for actually showing up reliably despite having little to no clue or interest about the actual business aspect, which is important of course. I also think our approach is flawed since we do have the exceptions of Wolfsburg, Leverkusen, Leipzig and (partially) Hoffenheim
But yes, it is by principle better than having something that is cultural and a thing of local pride and identity depend on an international entity whose primary allegiance is profit, leading to horrors like multi-club networks that defy every aspect of sportive integrity. For every successful owner, there's at least one Malaga or a Valencia situation. I'd rather have things in my own hands, even if I have to share that with idiots next door

>why don't you care about foreign footballers as well
Who said I don't? I'd love my local club to field more Germans, especially more people from my city/region
And if there has to be an owner, I think it usually makes a large difference whether that owner is from your region and perhaps even a genuine fan or some guy who treats it as a financial asset. My club does have a sponsor who is very rich and from the region. He's a bit controversial, I don't think I'd want him to control the club as a whole. But I don't doubt he's a fan, and I think that makes him more reliable than a total outsider. You can have owners all you like, even though I fear this always leads to a loss of fan identity when money is prioritized. But yes, I do find having foreign owners who also own other sports entities terrible. I think that's a lack of allegiance and reliability most of the time. And if my club sucks, I'd rather know it sucks because it just can't do better for the most part instead of it being an owner's strategy
I am well aware that I am very idealistic

You can drink at the concourse but not at your seat. This is only in football. Football hooliganism was a serious issue in the 1980s, this was one of the "solutions" but most likely forcing stadiums to become all-seaters (at a certain tier in the league pyramid) probably did more to break up hooliganism.
Other sports are unaffected. Drinking all day at a Test cricket match is amazing.

Drinking beer in the stands is next to go here.
First the media began targeting "beer throwers" during games, then KNVB introduced a rule that any cup being thrown would halt a game. Every game from that point on was halted for a while. At the same time a minister randomly proposed to ban alcohol sales at all sports clubs (amateur clubhouse included) but this was bounced since all amateur sports would go bankrupt.
This was like 1 or 2 years ago, I don't know what the current situation is but I'm certain they will try again.

yeah, supermarkets (and petrol stations, etc) can only sell alcohol between 10am till 10pm. Pubs, or in Glasgow at any rate, mostly aren't allowed to start flogging alcohol before 11 a.m., although there was few 'workers pubs' like picrel you could start drinking in at 8 a.m. A condition of these licenses was that 'food' had to be served with the drink. So, there'd be a single roll sitting on a plate at the bar that would get passed around anytime someone bought a pint. It was considered bad form to eat the roll.
