Palladium Games and Rifts General! /PGaRG/
The world is a broken, post-apocalyptic wasteland destroyed by the eruption of inter-dimensional portals, rifts in the fabric of space-time and ley lines which crisscross the world. Demon & alien invaders have poured out of the rifts to destroy human civilization and claim the Earth. Now the wasteland has had 300 years to partially recover, and civilization has returned to the world; but not just human civilization: alien empires, monster kingdoms, lost time travellers, lands of mutants, demonic overlords and wizards have arisen from the ashes, all trying to rebuild the world in their own image!
RIFTS! The science fantasy world of post-apoc cyborgs, wizards, dragons, ninjas, giant mecha, super-nazis, robot ninjas, vampires, underwater kingdoms, remnant human supertech civilizations and everything you can imagine all rolled into one setting where interdimensional RIFTS have pierced Earth's fabric and turned it into a playground for aliens and monsters!
Plus other Palladium Games about superheroes, zombies, classic fantasy, supernaturals investigation and more.

Original main book or RUE? Art? Content? Vibe? Which do you think was better?
>>95772381 (OP)For me its the original main book, way darker. Not everything was so glossy and there was room for low power characters.
Also i dont like the newer dragons nearly as much as the originals
>>95769956>DON'T STICK YOUR NECK OUTNight always seems to last longer when you're praying for daylight, know where you're going & always be ready to retreat back to safety, vulnerabilities will be exploited
>STAY HYDRATEDYou always need more water than you think, the desert is thirsty & if it isn't drinking water, it'll drink blood
>NEVER RAISE THE STAKESBe aware of what you're risking & never leave those you care about unprotected & when you have the enemy pinned down you never remove the pressure
>>95772381 (OP)RUE is better but there's stuff in the main book you can't find elsewhere & I think it's important to read it
>>95773000The real issue with fighting vampires is being geared for them. If you are tech based the gear you have to fight monsters and robots sucks for fighting vampires, but vampire gear useless against everything but vampires
A wood railgun ripping out your whole ammo supply into a cs trooper might not take him down, your silver knife and stakes may as well stay in your pack
The worst fight to have is a mixed enemy of half tech half vampires.
If your party is magic its far less tense as spells and magic weapons harm both.
>>95772381 (OP)That's the ugliest OP pic I've ever seen for a /PGARG/ thread.
>>95774813>Remember, vampires are a numbers game. The more they have of their specific Vampire Intelligence on this planet the more of danger they are to this entire planet. >>95779516To be fair, a lot of goddesses in the books have shitty PB, only a handful have anything around 30, which a lucky player could roll, let alone with modifications & mutations, a generic Pleasure Bunny is hotter than most goddesses. Add in the pheomones...

I'm still jazzed about the thought that Lazlo having a center of learning. It's only after rolling a leyline walker who never took computers: basic with a GM who likes to envision the setting using datapads everywhere and hitting level 6 do I really want to be able to plunk down some chink to learn how to use the damn things.
>>95785290See if the GM is okay with you taking some night classes or whatever so you get the skill for gold instead of wasting your natural skill development
>>95785951That's another point because of how slow leveling up gets after a few level you just don't get the opportunity for a little skill choice like that.
Also because I just found out about the TW horse.
Here is the bit from HU:
>To leam a new scholastic skill (one) or a akill program (several) the character must attend college or a special trade school. This will require money for class, time spent at classes and timespent on homework. The Game Master should logically assign time requirements for each. A good rule of thumb propriate. Again, 2

>Community College: Costs $200 per each skill for one semester of study. >>95785951>See if the GM is okay with you taking some night classes or whatever so you get the skill for gold instead of wasting your natural skill developmentI'll have to do most of the brainstorming if he agrees. He's a RAW kind of GM.
>>95784106I always interpreted that as at a certain point they realize they are not going to doll themselves up for pathetic mortals or other gods and just let themselves go.
>>95786901I still think it's stupid. I had a character who had maxed PB on a really lucky role & it was hilarious being sexier than the entire catalogue of gods,
>>95786959A bit. If there is any consolation I consider that divine shock and awe factor as supernatural PB.

>>95800433That's awesome anon thank you. Does the book have anything useful for Techno-Wizards?
>>95774813This is why you should always have a Northern Gun brand lasergun on your person.
If it's not Northern Gun, it's No Fun!
>look up TW vamp hunter
>looks exactly as you expect.
I'm glad rifter 2 portrays technowizards exactly as you expect. They look like high priest of a mega love church with guns. To many other rifts books try to portray them as normal operators or wizards. No, they are gold encrusted weirdos that learned how to make enchanted revolvers with bedazzlers and gems.
Also, anyone recall which book or rifter has TW pets?
>>95807171Rifter #59, page 66
Some cool TW stuff in there too. Like the TW spell Transfer Intelligence which puts your body in stasis while you control a robot. You could even take your body & bury it deep down in a protected underground chamber, pop it under a Nexus & use a Restoration Slab from Rifter 61 which slows your aging to a standstill as long as you're using it. The spell already halts your aging so youre actually gaining years at no cost. This way, you can operate relatively consequence free in the world while protecting your original body in its bunker. Even more. Clone your body, Petrify it, put a TW Golem Heart into it, transfer yourself into the Heart, & cast Stone to Flesh to make you look like your normal self again. You could even add in Sculpt Stone to make yourself look different, fix parts of yourself you don't like, or GM willing, enhance your PB (maybe even give your character a big swinging dick if they didnt have one already) just make yourself statuesque with chiseled features in the literal sense of the word. Now you have effectively a normal body that you can enhance in some ways like a robot out of Sourcebook 1, & while you've sunk a lot of time & money into this project, you are effectively immortal. Your old meat body is gaining years to its life, your new golem body can repair almost anything, & there is only a few ways you can truly be taken out & I'd say that unless you advertise, no one is gonna know the extreme measures it will take. Play dead. Take off when it's safe. Remold yourself into a new man whenever you have too much heat on yourself. You can even install a TW Transformation Circuit & TW power core so you can transform into a combat mode super deathbot or a fucking car if you want to. NOBODY who isn't criminally insane is gonna think the old busted Hovercycle in Jorge Jenkin's junkyard is an immortal technowizard. Install a whole bunch of different mechanical forms as you can afford. Go from human to little metal beetle
>>95807769Then fly off, or have some TW Device built in that can save your ass. The sky is the limit, or at least your wallet is. But you're a fucking TW. You should be making money hand over fist using little molebots to dig for materials, using PPE powered construction devices & selling generic TW weapons & Armor & whatnot to people while also getting rich adventuring. You can also steal skelebot patrols from the CS. The CS doesnt want to tell you this but Skelebots on patrol are free, you can just take them, & they are full of expensive robotics equipment you can repurpose after you bash it's CPU out & make triple sure the CS isn't tracking them
>>95772381 (OP)My group already knows Savage Worlds like the back of their hands.
Is there any reason to get the Palladium version of the game over just using the SW setting?
>>95807928For RIFTS?
Absolutely not. I cannot in good conscious recommend the time sink involved with learning a totally different ruleset for one game setting if you are familiar with a different ruleset that already has that setting no matter if one ruleset is superior to the other.
It's frankly a pretty shitty waste of everyone's time to do otherwise.
>>95807928Rifts was never designed for a quickie system like SWADE. Palladium is a bit more precise and complex, for example power armors having separate stats that the PC.
>>95807928If you're playing SWADE you aren't playing RIFTS.
>>95800449Can you share the bionics part?
>>95807769>>95807790Now you're thinking like a wizard!
>>95811435If you see some ability or spell & don't instantly think "how do I get the most out of this/how can I combine this" i dont know what to say. If you're a wizard & all you dream about is larping as a gun & shooting magic bolts or whatever you need your PPE revoked. Every wizard, especially Techno Wizards in RIFTS, need to be doing something crazy as a goal.
How many of you had traveling circus encounters? How many were fronts for crime? Looking at the articles they sound neat!
>>95807946Wrong
>if you speak french why learn greek? > if youve read wheel of time why read LOTR OR Amber? Besides the fact the palladium system is inherit to the setting of rifts for function and its setting doesnt work for savage worlds at all the same. Tbe magic in palladium has far more nuisance for caster type, the galactic level things do not scale at all for savage rifts the sense of random crits taking down giant mecha makes a troll with a vibro spear a problem instead of a blip for a glitterboy
Savage Rifts uses short range everything no lrm's or 2 mile glitterboy shots, let alone howitzers
The story and setting are completely diffrent in Savage Rifts than Palladium Rifts. Besides being good two shoes and bland the morally grey of rifts is washed away for complete always evil vs always good.
Savage Rifts is gay as fuck

>>95814727>If you speak French why learn Greek? That's a pretty bad comparison.
It would be more apt to say it's akin to learning a completely different language to read a single book and never using that language again. For MOST people, that one book isn't worth the time it takes to learn how to read it.
>>95809569Rifts is a setting and not a system. I acknowledge completely that palladium has the better system. Is it worth learning that system for one setting and what will almost surely be a couple of plays at best? Fuck no.
>>95815824Bro you're acting like learning some rules is hard. Fact of the material is, you're asking if playing with starwars characters in Fortnite is the equivalent of playing Starwars Battlefront. You're asking if drinking RC is like drinking Coke. You're asking if fucking a fleshlight counts as losing your virginity. SWADE isn't RIFTS
>>95815049It's only worth getting for rounding out books. There's only like two things of substance in it

>>95815148Does RIFTS really need more Amazonians? They've already got like 6
>>95811435Another awesome thing is that because of the robotics rules & the TW power core you can fit TW bionics into the golem body too. There is very little downsides to becoming an immortal flesh golem backed full of TW systems piloted by your undying body in stasis in a hidden secret chamber deep underground (Circle of Concealment goes a long way too) There's other considerations too like, you can hide your body on some other dimension or in an Astral realm etc. You could build a Megalith dimensional teleport gate on some long forgotten/abandoned planet in the middle of an empty galaxy as long as it has a Nexus you're fine. You just got to think big.
>>95814977>to have a kingdom of amazon domy mommysSuper-based. Dimensional fortress-based.
I turned old Cleveland into Cleaveland, a toxic wasteland filled with biohorror mutants and cybernetic demons that has humans living in underground vaults. The humans are actually all clones of each other and the original scientists who survived in the vaults.
Also added some crashed Kreeghor spaceships in a few spots in the Eastern Wilderlands and a few east coast steamtech kingdoms overrun by amazon Shemarrian dommy-mommies.
>>95815049>>95815069Yes, Spirit West is worth it. Has all of the cool magical stuff for the New West, including Indians spirits, gods, monsters, shaman, fetishes and magic items, lore stories, special locations and a few Indian tech items like power armor. It's a cool book, don't know why people would say it's bad. I've used it a lot in my New West game. Even wrote out the magic item tables as random roll ones.
>>95816301>Does RIFTS really need more Amazonians? They've already got like 6You can never have enough Amazons.
>>95815136>you observe THE COVENANT.
>>95807928>>95807946If you're already using Savage Worlds then Savage Rifts is just fine, you don't need to learn the Palladium system, it's a big mess and a huge headache for newbies.
This guy
>>95814727 is only half or a third right in his criticisms. The Savage Rifts system is mostly fine although it does have a range and glass cannon problem, but the setting stuff has mostly stayed the same. Just bear in mind that because the sheer volume of printed Rifts books is about 20x greater than what SavRifts has printed you are getting far less information - some of it very cool information - about each section of the world. For the complete info you need to read the Palladium world books in their entirety. But for a short campaign that's perfectly fine.
>>95814727>>95807946From the way I understand it SWADE rifts is a tabletop game with that card deck rpg.
>>95814727>Besides being good two shoes and bland the morally grey of rifts is washed away for complete always evil vs always good.>Savage Rifts is gay as fuckCorrect. SWADE doesn't really beat home the whole sacrifices or devil's deals people make for power and instead they seem to trying to put words in the GM's mouth by having an 'ideal' organization and format for players to work for and all the books structured around the adventures players must have in this organization. I assume, anyway, they have shat out so many books I don't really know what's going on there.
>>95816301I bet Beastiary 2 would come out a lot faster if Kev put all the species of giant warrior women in it. Clearly dinosaurs are not motivation enough!
>>95816964Wait a minute. Wouldn't that be over a billion dollars in TW stuff? Also wouldn't you require at least over a hundred PPE to charge all these things on a daily basis? If your body is in a pyramid you'd either be confined to leylines and only able to venture out if you had mobile charges with you like crystals or a mage slave. Honestly it probably would be cheaper and all round better to just have a Mystic slave. A mystic on a leash could give you plenty of charges and could recharge on its own.
>>95814727>>95818739I still cannot understand the retardation in making Fort Hugbox in the south instead of Lazlo/New Lazlo. That alone tells you the writers just don't give a shit
>>95818917There are ways to transfer your soul/intellect while keeping your PPE & spellcasting/psionics intact. Not only that but you can install a TW power core that creates some PPE per hour (amount based on the model) so tie the bionic systems to that, but leave your real PPE to yourself. You can also create an Energy Sphere based battery to top off if you wanted to as well.
It does take significant investment but you do things in stages. Start with a TW golem heart & some good power armor to put it in, buy/contract or convince your GM to let you build the Atlantean Stone stuff. Then it's just a matter of getting the next cool thing & the next cool thing. A TW should never be all that hard up for cash. You can turn a little bit of money into a ton of money with just a little time. Make a little magic mole robot with some Earth Warlock spells to hoover up precious metals & gems, make a "Create Wood-Ironwood" machine & sell MDC wood for bank. Create a "Create Dirt, Dirt to Clay, Shape Clay, Clay to Metal" machine & print whatever custom parts or equipment a settlement needs for bank. Rob a bank. Hoover up CS Skelebots & turn them into scrap. Lure out a SAMAS patrol & do the same. If you have a Megalith dimension gate you can transport shit to & from Phase World to get good stuff cheap & turn a profit. There's tons of ways to make tons of money if you think big. Almost every power armor suit & vehicle is prohibitively expensive. Go grab one & jump across dimensions to sell it. Change your face, use aliases & never let them get the drop on you. Don't work with anyone outside your trusted party members. See if your GM will let you be part of the Black Market too if need be. A lot of the games I've played in, money became a non issue after a while because you can snipe dudes & steal their mostly spotless shit 99% of the time if you go in with a plan. If you survive a combat with ten dudes with guns & armor, & you mostly sniped them, you are getting ten rifles,
>>95819242Ten suits of armor you can probably fix the helmets yourself, a handful of sidearm & grenades, & whatever else they might have in their pockets. Maybe even a bounty or quest reward on top. The world of RIFTS is huge. Just don't get caught with your pants down. I'd say, give every "region" you go to a different name. If that name turns to mud, go away a bit & come back with a different name & outfit/face depending on your abilities. Nobody is gonna know you that well already so don't be afraid to bounce around when doing what you gotta do for cash.
But like I said before you take it in stages. Do the first step, get some money, do the next step. After a bit you'll hit a tipping point & you'll be able to do whatever advancement to your god-golem body you really want. You can afford it because you knocked out that demon general & sold his bones to a warlock in Phaseworld, bought the next upgrade & sold a small group of Samsons you took out in the Dinosaur Swamp to some merc company up in Calgary.
>>95818823>>95817420I'm not against Amazons, I'm just wondering how you make new amazons different enough to stand out. I feel like you can just plug existing amazons into any hole you want
>>95819573Because, frankly I don't like the fluff for the south america amazons but realy like the Zentraedi and the Praxis warrior women
>>95819800But why not any of the alternate Amazons like Atlanteans or Altarans? Why robotics amazons?
>>95819863Because of the Style of their mechs and maybe a little bit the "come in giant and close to human size" thing
>>95819989Ah that works for me I guess. Thanks for reading through my autocorrect btw. I meant Robotech

>>95820856>Grammer>not grammarNow you're going to get the Spelling Nazi instead, you fool!
>>95820912I did that on porpoise
>>95816267>Learning rules are hardIt isn't. It absolutely is a time consuming aspect and anybody who is honest with themselves will acknowledge time is a resource. Does the benefit of spending that resource on learning a new ruleset outweigh the loss of that resource? Depends on what you get out of it and Palladium is definitely not a good enough system with enough settings for the bulk of players to pay that cost if another system is covering that setting well enough to not even have to shoulder that cost in the first place.
I got a lot of systems because I to am one of those edge cases that legitimately enjoys reading core RPG books just for finding out new mechanics and design ideas. I am not normal and expecting others to have that same level of zeal in such things is a very big ask.
I actually recommend people learn a generic system with enough splats and settings to be a better overall return on the time spent learning that system, even if the system itself is kinda bad.
As such, I recommend 5e, Genesys, Savage Worlds, BRP, and FATE (even though 5e and FATE are shit systems).
>>95819242Perhaps just cutting to the quick and converting a PA into a TW PA like immaterial hand does in the book. For the most part it would be the golem heart and other mods but the PA unit would be just skipping a few steps.
I do like the idea that you can't make a TW PA from a fresh unit, you need an armor that has seen enough action to essentially have earned a soul.
>>95821543>>95818917>TW Golem Heart750,000-950,000
>TW Power Core2-12.3 million
>Transfer Intellect, Clone, Petrify, Sculpt Clay (optional), Flesh to Stone, Circle of Concealment on your hidden bunkerThese are spells/services so price may vary. Let's say it's one million total.
>Restorative Slab & Megalith gate (Not technically essential as you can dump your body anywhere but its a good idea to have)Didn't see a price but the construction details are listed, let's say it's 5 million, most of it spent on the gate
This alone gives you the basic near immortal golem body, so maybe 3 million gets your foot in the door, 15 to 20 million gives you everything you need to build on. Now for the upgradesthe most important of which is...
>TW Transformation Circuit (not essential but fantastic to change your form to just about anything you can build, prices for alternate forms need to be added separately though)120,000
This is what let's you pretend to be a power armor, or a hovercraft, or any number of robot vehicle or drone, or especially any number of different humanoid robots, etc. As long as your TW Power Core can pay for it, you can stay in disguise forever. And this is on top of you walking around in a surrogate meat suit. Everything robotics-wise can be enhanced following Sourcebook 1 costs. TW Bionics can be added according to their costs as well. Your Supernatural PS can be enhanced, pretty much all of your physical stats can be made way better.
So all for the price of most Power Armors, you can have at least a usable near immortal golem body that you can enhance as you go. I actually suggest placing the TW Heart into a Power Armor when you first start out so you can benefit from it while you set everything else up. Then you can sell it to afford the other stuff, or incorporate it I to your Transformation Circuit. You can take the form of your own old armor & maybe protect one of your squishier party members or rescue an innocent by hiding them inside you
This album cover reminded me of rifts.
>>95821648So that's why I think it's absolutely fucking awesome. With just a little bit of investment, the cost of a nice power armor & grabbing a few semi-obscure things, you get all this cool stuff that comes together into an awesome whole. If you are a True Atlantean TW you should have a decent inroads to getting some Stone Master to build you what you need to hide your body, everything else is normal spells/tech you can learn in Lazlo or in the Federation/buy from Northern Gun
The price for a mostly undamaged skelebot on the black market is 3 million. So let's account for some battle damage & for selling it at reduced cost, let's say we can get a third of the price. That's still one million for a skelebitch. If you can snipe a single squad of those skelebozos, you have enough to buy most of the stat upgrades you'll want. If you can grab the armor off the SAMAS patrol that might come your way while piling up the skelescrap, you've got a couple more million for thos TW bionics that will let you do some really fun stuff especially if you can justify a blaster arm being the mechanical focus of some of the spells you've learned. You're still your flesh & blood meat suit too, so while you have this touch regenerating body, you can still stick that body in a suit of power armor (take note that this power armor can be upgraded with TW enhancements too, my personal favorite besides the Glitterboy, is the Coyote since it looks like a slim body armor & can be hidden under a jumpsuit. A jumpsuit which can have TW upgrades on top as well, you just might not need them at that point but Armor of Ithan is never a bad idea)
Call me munchkin, or power gaming, or even faggot, I don't care, I just love working with concepts like this. I try to keep things reasonable, I don't like to assume you can aquire unique tech or spells/abilities but these things should be relat8vely easy to get for a person with cash & means, which all adventurers are.
>>95821698>>95821648I'd say if you were like the wizard warlord of a modernized village I would say that would totally be a project you could easily finance. I'd say it's actually a pretty good plothook.
As a GM I would say something the complicate it like you can't just use any body but something that has a distinct reputation with you, like you have to wear the armor for a few months or carry around the golem body so that it is cosmically compatible with your astral form.
>>95821729Yeah, but you can make a clone of yourself to use as the golem, how more intimate can you get? Maybe use a dialysis machine to swap your blood?
>>95821698So my particular excitement/autism about this demands I continue.
You can I stall a Maximizer Circuit so you can get huge or a Minimizer to shrink down, this is on top of the Transformation one, so you could strink to a toy car/tiny bug & drive/fly in vents in you can pay for the PPE costs.
You can install a TW Bionic Finger Blaster & channel your attack magic through it, You can install the TW Bionic Enhanced Ranged Defence from Rifter #41 & get an autoparry that can redirect energy blasts. TW sensor suite or sensor hand. Built in flight. Honestly there's a bunch of Bionics that are available, both normal & TW. I know the Lalzo RAW has more bionics & I'm sure there is really cool stuff in there but I don't have access to it.
You can give yourself Superhuman Agility from Merc Adventures Combat Magic & get an autododge. If you want, you can get some demon/dragon bones & stuff them into your golem body with Diabolist wards of anything you think would be nice to have (I would suggest Impervious to Energy & Superhuman Agility/Superhuman stat buffs)
Making a Stone to Flesh TW Golem can also mean making PEOPLE SHAPED SIDEKICKS. Put a TW Heart into a statue of a hot chick. Make her flesh & blood & fuckable. Give her a Transformation Circuit. Now she can turn
into a car or cool gun. Trick out the car/gun with a bunch of cool stuff. Now you've made the table feel awkward by making a magical sexbot that turns into a gun you shoot. If that's too weird, you can make it a dog or some other companion. Walk into a place "unarmed" with a sassy parrot on your shoulder that turns into a laser turret. Make a few of them. Do you know how awesome it is to have a little beetle/bird buddy or whatever fly to a sniper spot & then turn into a little invisible turret? Or have your wolf companion turn into a hovercycle to make a quick escape?
>>95823964>Now you've made the table feel awkward by making a magical sexbot that turns into a gun you shoot. If that's too weird, you can make it a dog or some other companionNo, fucking your dog is a hundred times worse than fucking your gun.

>>95815136You want more raw books you gotta follow the rules.
>>95817768>but the setting stuff has mostly stayed the same. The setting has changed greatly, the tomarrow legion is a huge change with magic weilding dwarves(from a fantasy relm thsts not the world of palladium, becuase the writers were to lazy to read its history) with a center of power within range of any other systems cannons, 2 to 4 aa cannons to stop a million samas suits flying in, and yet somehow on par with Tolkien in its ability to hold out against the cs.
>>95819119Writers were to lazy to even read about the dwarves of fantasy palladium rejecting spell casting or their own sins of rune magic in the time of a 1000 magics.
Thecwriting is just lazy, extremely badly researched, and inconsistent with palladium material, let alone reality of modern combat

HOLY FUCK THE PORTAL GUN IS AMAZING
Portable, completely breach safe dimensional travel with no pyramids or monolithic architecture. UNDER A MILLION CREDITS & it only takes 250 PPE to make it work, it can pop you around to close range places too, no risk of failure!
The Fright Mask is cool as shit too, guaranteed debuffs. If you're willing to share more, I'd like to see any new spells or other TW gear, but I don't want to be greedy. THANK YOU anon this is AWESOME.
So back here

Is there any spells that reduce explosion or kinetic damage or whatever its classified as? There's plenty that mitigate various energy and magic or psychic damage and attacks, but is there any spells or psychic powers that reduce the damage from railguns and missiles?
>>95830985Doesn't every armor spell like Armor of Ithan that creates magic MDC for defense do that? Or do you mean damage reduction like D&D "immune to <100 MD per attack" or something?
>>95830079Don't blame Mark, most of America was in the thrall of the BLM insanity during that time. It's passed now and nobody cares, it probably won't even make it into draft v2.
>>95828177>HOLY FUCK THE PORTAL GUN IS AMAZINGIt's borken and munchkinized to hell and back. Completely overpowered for any regular RIFTS campaign. Needs massive nerfing or munchkins like you will break the megaverse in half with it. Yet another reason - alongside proofing - why the Lazlo book needs some serious editing and revisions.
>>95831587Either something like "Impervious to Kinetic" superpower from HU, or something that cuts the damage from those sources in half. I could have sworn that Merc Adventures had something but I can't find it. I know the Megaversal Legion has its inertia shields but they don't share.
>>95831672I'm only familiar with Rifts and I don't recall it having any damage types like "kinetic". There are a lot of niche rules in various sourcebooks that really shouldn't be counted as canon, and this sounds like one of them. Damage in Rifts, whether physical, magical or psionic, is almost always expressed as MDC, not as damage reduction.
>>95831635Yeah that is an on demand safe dimension hopper with no random rolls that can fuck you over that takes a faction of the PPE cost to cast a similar high level spell effect that comes with a ton of risk. And it fits in your fucking arm. It's beautiful. I love it. I need it. Don't change it.
>>95831958Rifts has a ton of things that are Impervious to Energy or half damage from lasers, or half damage from fire/cold etc. It's really not that obscure, the Glitterboys & those spells are in the core book. I was just looking to protect a chromed vehicle from explosions & railguns
>>95830886The benefit of being an anon I suppose
>>95830985Merc adventures source book, kinda a lesser known book minda ya.
>>95832821There it is. I knew there was something in there is must have overlooked it
Can a diabolist Power+Permancy Ward on a Warlock's Atmospheric Manipulation cast at level 5 to gain the permanent ability to alter the tempature of everything around him to +/-100 degrees? Summon up 100mph winds? All over a 3000ft radius. Let alone getting a higher level spell with a maximum of +/-300 variation over a 9000ft radius.
I mean, you can basically flash steam/freeze nearly two miles instantly at maximum, but even just boiling/freeze water over two football fields is crazy.
>>95818592Playing cards are pretty much solely used for initiative order. A-2, with spade, diamond, heart, and club for turn order. Jokers go whenever the fuck they want and get +2 to their action rolls that phase. Deck is reshuffled after a turn where a joker is played.
Honestly, the initiative system in SWADE is probably the biggest strength the game has.
>>95835308Yeah, naaa
What ward or wards allow you to attach a spell? Can warlock spells be turned into scroll form? Wizards can for sure...but warlock stuff is all belief in an element really.
But yeah what ward allows for a spell effect to be attached?
>>95835654Permancy Wards. They let you Permancy buff type spells on your self if you sew them in & shove some dragon bone I to yourself. Small price to pay for summoning fire tornados on a whim
>>95835679No they let permanently adhear wards to a person, not spells, ward and runes.
There is no ward im seeing that allows a spell to be interwoven into it
>>95837410No they can do spells too. I'll post the page number of the rules when I get back to my books, I'm working right now
>>95837509No they cant but feel free to prove me wrong.
>>95840240Fantastic you posted it before i could get to it. Read the Permancence Ward entry here & take note of the part where it talks about spell magic being applicable. It says it right there in clear text. You can use it one spell buffs but not stuff like fireball or wall of fire.
>>95841057So I'm mostly asking if Warlock Magic counts as "Spell Magic" it's not clear if anything thats a spell counts or if they only mean Invocation Spells. Also, if thats true that any spell can be used it means (if your GM didnt assassinate you on the spot) you could Permanence Ward a Shaman's "Small Force" spell & an Impervious to Energy spell & just be immune to 99% of attacks. But that would be crazy right?
>>95832821I wish this description was more precise as to how this shield works. Something like
>The shield is actually a series of layered shields, each 1 MDC. 1 "sheet" per level of the caster. Each sheet can absorb the blast of a single explosion. The spell does terrible against conventional or repeated attacks as it will eat through the sheets quickly.
>>95835308Do you mean the ward or the diabolist get this ability?
>>95835679>>95840240>spells like fireball, wall of fire, wind rush, call lightening, illusion, and similar cannot be given to living being via a permanence ward.I'm going to say no. You can't make a permanent fire field for yourself. You could attach a permanent fire protection ward to yourself with the godling bone permanent fire damage ward but that's going to basically allow you to stand there taking half damage hoping your target dies before you do.
>>95841491Whoever has the ability active on them can have it sealed with a Permancy Ward. There might be some wiggle room if the two are working with each other though
>>95841614You could have a permanent say, Fly Like the Eagle on you, but you can't have a permanent Sonic Blast. For the most part buff spells work, effect/damage spells don't. At least not on a person. GM always has final say of course.
>>95841742Also note that anyone can learn Wards if you can get someone to teach you. Maybe pay someone in Lazlo a fortune to learn them.
>>95828076>equityBut isn't Lazlo facing a crisis after the siege of Tolkien because a lot of people coming from Tolkien have no applicable skills for them to be beneficial for Lazlo's society? If they were practicing equity Lazlo would be a once prosperous TW society run into a ghetto because all citizens were over taxed to supplement the refugees, all services would have increased their costs to try and survive these taxes, and you'd have terrible unrest because people would look, to blame convenient minorities for broken government policies, likely the ones in the government like the dragons.Dragons of course don't suffer fools so they would for a militaristic faction within the government to literally stomp dissent. This of course would be sized by criminal cartels to exploit the chaos and suffering. Not trying to stir shit, that is just the set piece I would see from and equity based magic society in Lazlo's position.
Further, equity flies in the face of the theme of the Rifts setting. Shortening your life so you can trade punches with a leprechaun or agreeing to be a bitch boy for a demon lord to learn some spells meanwhile a DBee can subsist on life force itself and tank an artillery shell to the groin without any effort is the opposite of equity.
>>95828046>>95828063>>95828076Cool stuff, I certainly will buy it if when it comes out. Although, what is a Metal Head? It sounds like a TW power armor but from the name I would expect it to be some suped up helmet.
>>95841942NTA
It's a TW borg OCC I think. I'm definitely gonna buy it whenever if gets made too
>>95841930There are D-Bees waving Tolkeen flags & summoning demons to set fire to stores & hovercycles
>>95842094That's okay, in Rifts North America L.A. is under 500' of water and rock and volcanic ash. They can protest there all they want or if necessary just send in the Supermen of the New Navy.
>>95841057But how do you put a spell into a ward, any ward ?
I see it say that, but it doesn't give a cost or way to do it.
>>95842569You don't need a ward of the spell itself. The spell snaps to the Permancy Ward best I can figure
>>95842772I think its a dropped feature that got a paragraph left in
>>95842772I hate that im doing this, but here is a retarded ai's answer on wards holding spells
>>95843130Btw grok knows how to play rifts if you are ever desperate
>>95843138>>95843130As you can see here
>>95840240 it lists the spell Invulnerablity, Fireball, Wall of Fire, etc. And mentions SPELLS specifically not just wards. The AI is pulling from a specific forum post
https://www.palladium-megaverse.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=144170
Which I've also read years ago, you can recognize some of the specific phrases the AI is using. If you don't want spells tied into wards that's a perfectly valid way to play. But there's also enough written under Permanence Ward section to validate those who want to.
As most things, it depends on your table & GM. If a group is okay with you killing some dragons/demons & sewing high level spells into your skin to make you unstoppable then go for it. If they don't, well there's nothing to do about it, the GM has far more resources to fuck with a player than a player does to fuck with a GM's plot.
Original point being even without putting it in a power boosted Ward, the spell Atmospheric Manipulation is OP as fuck. At medium-high level you can flash freeze everything in sight, or boil dudes in their armor over a huge range. You could always pay a TW & a Warlock to make a weather dominator for you instead, Diabolist was just one path to getting it on demand
>>95828046Hey Lazlo anon. You don't have to post anything you don't want to, but can you at least tell me what the TW Gem Reference Addendum or TW Auto Friend is?
Little Brother Glitterboys are so cool but only the Republicans use them :(
>>95844385Do you mean the mark 3 or the suit? Because I think both are unrated since they are in the use of a super secret organization that would probably climb up your toilet to merc you if you got one.
>>95848833The one you posted. It's called the Little Brother.
>>95849619Which is funny because the mark 3 is a foot shorter than the g-10 and like half the weight.
As an aside, does the power rod thing of the Litter Brother use staff or spear WP? Because it is not much of a weapon without it.
>>95841444It's perfectly explained. For one round per level you have protection against all explosive blasts within a 10ft bubble. All those missles the CS patrol just threw at you? Ignored. That grenade the jucier pitched through the window? Ignored the railgun staffing you? Blows a hole in your spleen. The laser barrage from the crawling turret? Destroyed your arm.
Ever wonder what a dogboy would look like if designed by a jap and bred with a honda?
https://youtu.be/fzciJfIGnek?si=LPUJgIlBTjoqXJj-
>>95851179It's like Archie made it to infiltrate the CS but it was scrapped because the other dogboys couldn't smell it
>>958497813. CPA-003 Energy Rod (1): Originally designed by the US Military as a riot control weapon to stun opponents, the Republicans have tweaked it to fire a short-range S.D.C. or M.D. energy blast. To fire, contacts in the spear-like rod draw energy from the suit and fire with a verbal command or the pressing of a concealed trigger stud. The M.D.C. rod can also be used as a blunt weapon or spear.
>>95851255Probably could not create a permanent scent substitute for dogboy urine and the collection process was too socially awkward. Still that is an idea, though:
>Create a spy that is a member of the CS military but still relatively underclass.>No one suspects it because grunts are beneath notice and usually not scrutinized since they are not given much access or authority.>Get to easedrop on CS officials because they have your unit guarding doors or cleaning the latrines. outside their command center.Maybe he could make fake skelebots. Ironically that would mean that the Archie Skelebots would be better than the actual units.
>>95851340Archie if for sure infiltrating the CS with skelebots. Probably a few soldiers & officers, & some of the power armors, etc.
>>95851286So is it spear or staff WP nigga?
>>95852222Now you see that is what I'd think of as a cyberknight.
>>95851774>>95851340To go further for ARCHIE failing to make a double of a dogboy.
>Hello dogboy>Hello fellow dogboy!>Boy Dogboy, you smell like dogboy urine that was sitting in a tepid puddle in Kingston then sucked up in a hermatic syringe by a *sniff sniff* young adult male vagabond who gave it to someone who smelled like a robot who then inserted that urine in a larger plastic container, taken to Chi-town, then spritzed on a robot who was covered in plastic fur that was intentionally dirtied and exposed to mold and common dogs.>...I think I see a DBee down the street. >>95868634There's a few, but not a lot. Drones in a general sense are kind of new for RIFTS.
>>95868037The old school ng missile automatic systems mostly in actual game play.
They are cheap, 6k ft for is fine for dumb fire but its range when operated by a user remotely is killer, return mortar fire or pa/fighter jets coming to blow you up makes the user alot safer, not to mention trapping them with light and medium units turned off till they are over head the long range one is a good trap
>>95871085Also had one of these back in the 90s in a highschool game, im sure the reasoning for having it avaliable for sale would be dubious in our games these days but what ever, I treated it like a dog and named it for my necromancer
Is there any (non-demon/evil) spell that's gives you faster flight than Fly as the Eagle or Winged Flight? I'm willing to take janky rifter stuff
>>95874746Its an oversight but sub light flight forgot to put only works in the vacuum of space, there are two other flight spells in "fleets of the galaxies" one slower one ftl, both require you to be in space to cast.
They forgot to say that in sub light
If I was your gm id say its an oversight and require you to be in space....
But raw it doesnt require it
>>95876678Yeah I saw that, but like you said its only because of an oversight. I'm trying to be legit. The only other spell I can find is a demon spell "Wings of the Locust" which is just fucking retarded. How do they not have a spell that let's you fly faster than a fucking jetpack?
Okay fellas hear me out. I know everyone has ideas for origami armor made with paper with silver runes on it, but I'm not looking to do that. I have found that people from China & even post WW2 Europe have made clothes out of paper. So do you think it would be fine to silver rune a fashionable suit that'll never get destroyed? Sure it won't stop your organs from rupturing to a railgun, but at least it won't leave you dressed in rags afterwards. So it's mostly about making unbreakable clothes than protecting yourself from damage. No one wants to get there ass handed to them in the wild & have to show up in town with nothing but their birthday suit.
Also, I was thinking you might just be able to make a paper based net using only paper & weaving/knoting so that might work as a way to bag a dangerous animal/monster
How are the Weapon Books?
>>95877945They exist. What do you mean by "how are they"?

>>95877818The problem is the abuse possibilities, it stops all lasers/ion/plasma guns
But flavor text to always be dressed in a pressed suit is pretty cool
>>95880061There's a ton of shit that is immune to lasers already though. Maybe give the suit an AR rating for lasers/energy & it won't count for anything against other stuff
Behold! A "modest" magic user village!
>>95874746Buttering up your GM to let you create a spell that makes you as fast as those flying tiger people in SA.
>>95877945Modern weapons compendium is fun and has its own damage system to help people put guns in their books.
>>95877818Like a technowizard suit? I think the no protection from impact balances out somethings. Like, a blade won't penetrate but you are still getting stabbed with basically a blunted edge. Vibro knives or energy weapons would probably easily burn you through heat conduction.
>>95871100This is stupid. If it's going to defend against spiders you are going to need a much shorter barrel for close range shots. Clearly, the kitani want you to buy two so they can shoot the spiders that get too close to the other turret and they can shoot them off eachother.
>>95880187Doesn't have to be a techno-wizard suit. Just a regular paperbased three piece suit/dress/robe/whatever clothes you want with silver runes inscribed on it to make it indestructible. Apparently there's a lot of historical accounts of paper based clothes. If you really wanted to use it in battle I'm thinking an AR rating based on how much of the body is covered. Lasers & energy attqcks besides fire doesn't do anything, just like if you were a mage with Impervious to Energy. Any physical weapon can still hurt you though I'd say stuff like poisons wouldn't necessarily transmit without passing the AR. Fire would hurt since in encompasses & would transfer heat through
Now, if you wanted to use the silver rune paper suit as the base for TW enchantments that would be fine with me, Something like the TW Bulletproof Armor from Rifter #59 would give you temporary immunity to physical projectiles, just not Hand to Hand.
People don't seem to realize how easy it is to become immune to a lot of stuff. Like, anyone who is immune to fire, or has a TW Impervious to Energy enchantment on a Kittani Plasma Harness, is immune to just about anything. It specifically talks about vampires with the harness are incredibly hard to stop.
>>95880146Behold, a Qud Pyramid of Power.
>>95880928It's like a british 20 dollar bill.
How do I stat a team of sentai warriors? I want some obnoxious isekai/Rifted kids from an alternate Japan to be good intentioned villains.
Something like transforming suits, themed weapons, I'm gonna give them some hovercycles too. Should I give them a big robot vehicle? Is there any transforming or combining rules?
>>95886997Heroes Unlimited has that kinda stuff
There are specific transforming robots though
>>95886997One thing that I thought I read or heard about rifts is that all the leyline walkers and glitterboys have horns not for an actual reason but that demon's invading their dimension was such a huge impression on the unconscious psychic collective that even before and after the coming of the rifts they were putting horns on things as a sign of physical or arcane power. I never read where that came from but I think it is neat to consider cannon.
So I think your sentai team should be animals with horns:
>Bull>Deer>Rhino>Ram>Giraffe>Unicorn is the green ranger type that shows up when the team is losing.
>>95887656How about
Dragon > Leader
Bull > Lancer
Rhino > Brawn
Ram > Brains
Deer > "Hart" lol
Unicorn > Sixth Ranger
>>95887656>>95887805That IS a cool idea and yeah, there's probably tons of superstition around magic and psi, the types of clothing that might repel/appeal to demons, rings, talismans, incense, body parts, et al. that should be part of mages' repertoire, especially those of Shifters and Linewalkers since they deal with strange dimensions the most.
>"This Hatsune Miku replica doll has decreased my summon error rate by 10%, I swear to Mammon!"
>>95891086The masks, goggles and weird bodysuits, however, would likely be practical protection against hostile environments encountered in other dimensions, plus magical wards and charms.
>>95891115But since this is RIFTS(tm), the bodysuits and horns may also be horrific, secret, or forced symbiotes, flesh grafts, alien parasites, experiments or other oddities.
That's one of the great things about RIFTS: it's got room - and likely description - for any kind of idea you can think of.
>Rifts Promise of Power maybe getting an updated PC version.
>Its from a "support studio" that doesn't even have a wikipedia entry.
>Want $700,000 to convert an old game to Unity and AI upscale everything.
This does not fill me with confidence.
>>95852585I think any RIFTS campaign type stuff I would do would carry Archie's Wizard of Oz obsession forward and have every infiltration cyborg he creates use some sort of Oz reference as a name. Like names of actors, minor characters, and so on.
as a newbie to /TG/, i'm interested in this RIFTs.
Anybody tried at least making some kind of cool superfortress HQ full of memorabilia, artifacts, etc?
>>95891855Superhero is more Heroes Unlimited or Robotech than RIFTS.
Otherwise, what do you want to know about RIFTS?
>>95891855I made a flying stone octahedron/ magic pyramid. It doesn't have memorabilia. It's just a handful of repurposed robots, personal effects, a TW lab etc. It's just a flying house for the party
>>95892502>Superhero is more Heroes Unlimited or Robotech than RIFTS>robotechisn't that just ripoff macross? Also how for superheroes in not!macross?
also specifically no, I mean like a really hard to get into fortress, aka a superfortress, where i can be safe.
>>95892930>TW labwhat's that?
also I'm thinking of just doing something like a giant city somewhere maybe. What I've thought of doing was having these "aerial robots" that would try and salvage anything that doesn't work anymore and have them turned into refined metals/materials and put to better use.
But with what i've talking about? pretty much a glorified museum in my "base/fortress"
just nice vases, old paintings, souvenirs, artifacts, etc etc from museums or just in evil cult places, you know for good decoration
>>95893333Oh boy you're like, NEW new. That's awesome, welcome to the Megaverse.
TW stands for Techno-Wizard. They make arcane-mechanical stuff. Like they can take a gun, add some gems & precious metals too it, & now it's a lightning shooting death ray that runs on PPE (Potential Psychic Energy, aka magic points) so the lab is a Techno wizard lab, it's where my Techno wizard creates his technowizard gear
>>95891748Then dont back the kick starter.
Its an american company at least doing it
>>95891134>>95891115>weird body suitsThat's a big note. Natural materials means that it came off something alive no matter how you cut it. It also means you are going to have to change your standards.
>Hey, leyline walker Larry what the fuck are you wearing?>its my new magic compliant EBA suit! Radiation, gas, fluids, it protects from it all and has a built in air system. Look at these seams! You cant fit a micron through those seams!>It looks like a gimp suit made of nightmares! I can see faces in it!>I mean, yes, its the guy's speciality so its going come out like that.>What guy?>You know that prison camp we got trapped in in that world war 2 dimension?>... You had Dr Mengler make you a hermetically sealed fetish suit from human skin?!>its not human... You know those giants that were running those bandit raids?>Well, that's better.>Also the inner suit was made of demon scrotum.>What?... what?>From those demons we killed a while back. He needed a stretchy continuous material for an inner layer to make it EBA. And those demons had such stretchy scrotum!>The more I know the worse it gets. I think I'm going to barf. How much did it cost.>50k in creds...>Why are you trailing your sentence again?>50k credit and travel to our world. I talked about our dimension while he was measuring!>You took a nazi war criminal to our Geemany?>Oh no. He said the is a little too soft. He's in Chi-town now. Has a small tailor/body shop. Says its "been a gas" or whatever that means.>Ley Line Larry!
>>95891748I think they are asking for a bit much. Hiring a no name company to port over isn't too outrageous. There are lots of studios that do "backend development" and are like that.
Its that Sean has the power to dehype everything by sounding like he is lying to you.
>>95895167>>95891134>>95891115A lot of Mage gear is made of dinosaur hide or fury beetle shell, etc. so you're not that far off with the demon scrote.
>>95891806That's actually pretty clever!
>>95892502>Superhero is more Heroes Unlimited or Robotech than RIFTS.Some would argue that's a bigger reason to have superheroes in Rifts or that it's a world that needs superheroes since morality is bending and unheard of crimes are being committed.
>>95891806So the Robot Dogboy would be Toto
>>95895880Wasn't he named Terry in the original book? Easier to hide the reference from players.
>>95895880>>95896446It would work on multiple levels because ARCHIE's robots are considered not real robot intelligence. Wait, no, that was the tinman that needed the brain.
>>95893608Kinda like a caster gun from Outlaw Star?
Also magic is psychic power?
what else is there for TW gear?
>>95895717I remember this crazy comic! God that's probably the most 90's gun I've ever seen, and it's beautiful.
Also you could just heroes with powers, not a superhero, you know?
That reminds me, is there anyway to fix the world of rifts?
>>95899705There's all kinds of gear from weapons & armor to vehickes & instant food cookers. It's not exactly like a caster gun, it's much closer to say, a wand in d&d that looks like a bedazzeled gun & you fill with magic to use/recharge. Magic is not psychic powers. Psychic powers are their own thing & they use Inner Strength Points. Why is it like this? I have no clue. Best thing to do is just read the RUE.
How you fix the world of RIFTS is to kill all the major threats to earth, chase off anything that would want to fill the vacuum, then place a Stone Pyramid on every Nexus to stabilize the Leyline energy. Kick out every fucking D-Bee i dont care how long theyve been here, how long theyve been here, Atlantis belongs to Atlanteans & Earth belongs to Earthlings. Find ways to close the permanent rifts & hellmouths. Fix the Yukatan. Tell the furries on the Moon to calm down. Once Earth is saved, we can invite some of the cool D-Bees back in limited amounts
>>95900064Gocha for that first part. I basically could imagine at least the gun could require "concerated magic rounds" in some way, and you gotta be in effort to make the rounds shoot fire or whatever.
>Second partokay, so I don't know what a Hellmouth is, but I guess it's a way to hell.
Also pretty much everything extradimensional, on earth, off earth, etc.
Also why not just do this:
>Construct a towering system that works like a vacuum for all forms of energy: natural, unnatural, supernatural, esoteric, etc>This would lead to the creation of God like energy, or some sort of Omni-Energy>Utilizing this Omni-Energy, it may as well be possible to just...revert however long the rifts world has been like this with the fits, setting it back in time
>>95900509>Maybe through some godlike shenagians, revert to the point where the world, and probably the whole megaverse is in a better state as a whole.>Therefore, we undid the WHOLE world of rifts through crazy science.
>>95895330Nah, it's Kevin being a lying thief that makes me not want to back it. If by some miracle of Satan that it actually gets made, I'll pirate it like the good Lord intended.
>>95900509>>95900514Please read the books & become more well acquainted with the setting
>>95899705>what else is there for TW gear?More or less it's makes a piece of equipment that casts a spell a certain way rather than going through the process of learning it yourself. Also, it lets people who can't cast magic good use this equipment as well.
Part of the whole TW thing hinges on that specific kinds of gemstones are encapsulated specific spells.
>>95900509>Permanent rifts and hellmouthsI forget where the hellmouths are but the permanent rifts can actually be closed by magic user factions but it takes a lot of effort. That also means that the CS would have to concede and work with them instead of shooting them on site to close them.
It's important to note that the natural state of earth in Rifts is to have some magic and rift activity. The Atlanteans, the true Atlanteans tried to construct a rift portal hub and it went wrong, sucking the continent into a pocket dimension and stripping the planet's normal magic until Venezula nuked Brazil and rifts came back and were overcharged.
>>95900509>>This would lead to the creation of God like energy, or some sort of Omni-EnergyThat is pretty much what ley line energy and PPE is. As in gods actually use this energy and it does just about everything without needing a direct conductor.
A fun consideration is that magic users wouldn't want to fix the rifts because it means that their magic can't punch tanks anymore and they can't travel to new weird and disgusting dimensions as easily. Right now, these factions are running cities with sky scrappers and factories and all that off ley line energy. Giving that up would mean it's back to jocks and thugs stuffing them into lockers!
Backer kit: 118k of 800k
I mean, that's alright but I don't think that's going to succeed give the trends these things have. If it doesn't get funded will they still make the game?
>>95908470$118K in 2 days out of 30 is not bad, it might make it the $800K goal. But $800K is a tiny amount to develop a video game.
>Reprogrammed in the industry leading Unity Game Engine, this is not an emulator running off of the old code, but a completely reforged modern gaming experience using the original assets including art, music, adventure text, combat mechanics, etc. That's a lot of work if they don't have the old source code (and most likely they do not as it was a custom OS for Nokia) and I don't think $800K will cover it.
But I wish them all luck, this really was a very good game and a beautiful showcase for RIFTS.
Link for anyone who wants it: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/palladium-books-inc/rifts-promise-of-power-reforged
>>95908689From what I understand of coding it's probably easier for a ground up remake that porting and fixing it. It would be nice if they can unpack the game to rip assets. On the upside Sean atnleast has an ngage and the game. I don't know if they are just going to play the game and recreate what they see or if they have any design docs from the original devs or what.
>>95908689Did I imagine it or did they canonize the PoP glitterboy design by making up a different model for it? Like it was G-10-a or something and it was smaller, more common, and had features like the forehead head light, custom color trim, and a smaller boomgun that was easier to fire.
>>95909815No. There's a lot of Glitterboys, many of them have smaller frames but nothing like that except maybe the M3
>>95908470>give the trends these things have. You can track the projected $ trend on BackerTracker here:
https://www.backerkit.com/projects/palladium-books-inc/rifts-promise-of-power-reforged
Right now it's looking like they'll miss their target by a hair.
>If it doesn't get funded will they still make the game? No. That's how these things work; if the upfront funding isn't there, it doesn't get made. The initial funding is not just to make the game but also to gauge the future market demand and sales. They want to make a game that enough people will buy in the future - apart from KS/BK funding - that all these companies can make a profit. Otherwise what's the point?
>>95910457>No. That's how these things work; if the upfront funding isn't there, it doesn't get made. They want to make a game that enough people will buy in the future - apart from KS/BK funding - that all these companies can make a profit. Otherwise what's the point?I would think that Kev needs to mortgage his house or ask for a loan or whatever to make this project gets made. ttrpgs are fun and all but it's in videogames that RPGs can actually be successful. Unless he wants to spend more money on a bigger project this is probably the best chance to realize those dreams of Rifts being a known IP.
>>95910591Kevin's too old to be mortgaging his house. This is clearly a Sean Roberson project. But you're right, this is Palladium's biggest chance to develop the IP towards a larger market... though still a tiny niche one of retro CRPG video game players.
>>95772381 (OP)Fellow riftsbros i've lost my personal trove of pdfs and trying to locate random generation table for pre-rifts bunker complexes. I know there is one of the Russia worldbooks, but I remember (perhaps falsely) of an adapted one for North America. Anyone know which book or have excerpts of the pages?
>>95913137It's in the Dinosaur Swamp books.
>>95910457Not looking good for the project... dropping below $600K...
>>95903799Oh no i meant like what else is a TW gear? Like a sled or something?
>CSCoalition States, right?
>I forget where the hellmouths are but the permanent rifts can actually be closed by magic user factions but it takes a lot of effort. Okay alot of pack here, so really it seems like we could try and let the earth still have magic and maybe one rift, or something.
Also hellmouths, portals to hell, so probably one's in Las Vegas...i mean it makes sense right? They're in places where sinful activities are at their most.
Also altantis was real? cool.
>>95903818So pretty much raw psionics and magic? neat!
>new world and dimensionsyou can leave the rifts world?
>back to jocks and thugs stuffing them into lockersThatttt and the fact I probably pulled the equivalent of a Fatal Attractions on the whole world on accident, leading everyone to suffer and die.
>>95915006The biggest hell pit is in Calgary, if I recall. Other locations are mentioned in Books 10 (Hades), 11 (Dyval) and 35 (Megaverse in Flames)
>>95915006Buddy, you really need to just read the books for a bit
>>95915006You really are going to need to read the Rifts Ultimate Edition to get the full gist, or read some of the things in the OP. Or spend time jn Chino Prison.
That said explaining is fun so here are some acronyms
CS: Coalition States. A human run dictatorship run out of the ruins of Chicago. Only recently turned into a facist state after an escalating war with magic user run states. They are possibly the strongest military force on the planet. Founded by Chicago survivors and the military elite force NEMA. They hate DBees and magic users, only employing them as exceptionally special cases. Encourages illiteracy as a means of control.
DBees:Shortening of Dimensional Beings. Any creature or entity from another dimension.
TW: Acronym for Techno Wizard. Technowizardry is making devices or infrastructure powered by magic.
PPE:potential psychic energy. Effectively magic points. Not to be confused with ISP which is Inner Strength Points, which is the magic points for psychic powers.
GB: Glitter Boys, a nickname for Rifts poster boy mech. GBs are power armor fitted with laser resistant armor plating and a heavy railgun called a boom gun. The units were so resistant that they survived the apocalypse with their pilots forming generational traditions of frontier justice
NGR: New German Republic. Germany was not affected at all by the apocalypse.
NG: Northern Gun. A prominent arms manufacturer. Dedicated to selling munitions and vehicles on the open market as strong as modern any miltary* but much cheaper.
Remember that all the good guys are Chrome. How chromed is your character?
>Make Origami Wristband/Ring (Pic related)
>Place indestructible silver runes
>Enchant paper with magical effects
>Profit?
I was rolling up some aliens using phase world and I've got a conundrum.
I rolled up ten races to fill in a patch of space, most of them don't matter but one of my races god loaded dice or something because they ended up being crazy strong.
Supernatural Attributes
Above Galactic Average Damage Capacity
Human-Like Appearance
Earth-Like World
Greater Psychics AND Wingless Psychic Flight
Amazing Civilization tech
Superhuman Magical Abilities
Enlightened Imperialists
So in this corner of my setting is a race of mortal gigachads ,they're human but with superpowers in almost every way. Theyre also interested in expanding. How should I handle this?
>>95924673>>95924673Have you read splicers? Sounds like splicers
Id say make their birth rate super low or maybe a failing star for their home world to kinda make them not omnipresent and powerful, ie a reason they dont run the 3 galaxies
>>95925143I gotta think of a way to make them unique & interesting beyond "humans but perfect". Lower population/birth rate is a given since they are so overtuned. Maybe have them be tied to the Forge? A race of super smiths who have all this awesome technology & powers but they got caught up in the big war & was reduced to next to nothing because while they've gotten all these powers they are still flesh & blood weak unlike all the other big races. I think they would focus on defensive technology & hiding. I'm thinking body armor force fields etc. Maybe they have a Homeworld that completely moved out of Phase? Or in the Astral?
>>95918782Damn, you win all the chromes.
>>95918778Not enough, not enough.
>>95918782>>95926373That makes me wonder about a character rolled to troll the GM. A powers unlimited hero called Glitter Boy. His powers would be light reflection and accelerate projectile, but what else would he have?
>>95926395MDC body with a lot of MDC & immune/resistant to lasers, a sonic boom attack, some way to smash a dude from far away with comparable damage to the Boomgun, maybe he can bestow kinetic damage to things he throws or something.
He's also got to have a cool chrome look
>>95926479Glitter Boy is not shy about the chrome cod piece!
>>95925917They could have religious or cultural belief they have to fight fair, so they clone enemies arms, and fighting styles so they never have an edge
Or maybe their world is owned by the nurrani fully, they owe vast sums to them type deal
>>95918570...neat, very neat.
So that says alot:
>GB are the real power armors >this feels more like a funnier fallout>Chicago is better somehow from the apocalypse. And out of curiosity, does this mean I could have someone still be alive since before the apocalypse?
I mean, somehow get infused with PPE OR ISP from rift interference or something else, making them basically unaging?
And basically I could say the GBs are basically makeshift Sheriffs/Vigilantes
GlitterSlingers, I could nickname em.
Pretty not be a criminal in Texas, huh? lmao
>>95928883>I mean, somehow get infused with PPE OR ISP from rift interference or something else, making them basically unaging? There is an NPC with that back story, if you were going to have them as a PC you'd be better served with falling through a rift and time traveling. Only because the time of the upheaval was like 300 years ago so youd be a pretty high level player with 300 years of experience. Also they would have gotten so used to the new paradigm the whole this is not how i remember it type deal would be tamped done by 300 years of brutality to survive
>>95928883Texas is where Great Value Baxter Stockman creates genetic horrors while indulging his furry fetish. It's part of the empire of humanity run by the Illinois Nazis. Glitterboys are more Knight Errant than Texas Ranger but you can do whatever. As for being a pseudoimmortal guy from before RIFTS you could just be a Sea Titan. But really man, just spend the weekend reading books first.
>>95930463Fyi heres the npc I was referring too, her race has been on earth pre fall of Atlantis
>>95928883>GB are the real power armorsActually, GBs straddle a line between being Power Armors and Robotic Vehicles (giant robots). They are as tall as a power armor but their weight and MDC value is like that of a much larger robot.
>>95931935Fun (?) Fact. Chromium adds is about 1.5 MDC to regular armor. So if you ever wondered what a chrome Samson would be, it's 335 MDC.
The best samas ever is the wild weasel, I wish other robots/vehicles at the same jamming or similar type benefits.
In a combined arms since its such a game changer to have one with a squad of robots/power armor/cyborgs it would change the course of a battle so heavily.
Its crazy powerful
>>95932957There's a ton of cool shit that's tied to weapons/armor/vehicles that's completely unique to one fucking thing with no rules to adapt it to others.
Wild Weasel Jammers & Chaff
Juicer Killer Power Armor RCS
Naruni Themo Kinetic Armor
Naruni Sun Chariot transformation
ALL MEGAVERSAL LEGION TECH THE FUCKING STINGY BASTARDS
Etc.
Imagine if you could pop an AI into your Armor & let it control your defensive systems so you can focus on doing damage while it runs interference, shuts down autododgers, jams targets etc.
>>95933110>Imagine if you could pop an AI into your Armor & let it control your defensive systems so you can focus on doing damage while it runs interference, shuts down autododgers, jams targets etcThats the only benefit of larger robots is the multiple people acting as one
Hyper "advanced" 70 ton robot....20% more mdc than a super samas if that and 8x the cost.
Robots have 3 to 4 people running them though so thepilot can dodge and move, gunners firing and coms jamming from one unit, but in practice and by math your better with 3 or 4 PA suits, total attacks, mdc, dps, flanking, size, cost, everything big robots are such trash stat wise
>>95933278Don't hate me for the munchkinism but since TW Golems basically use Robot rules, I love the idea of a character making a few of them & just plugging them into any power armor or robots you come across. It'll auto repair it with its regeneration so battle damage is a nonissue & now you've got another soldier in your group, you can even wear it & let the armor & you have your own separate actions which makes your DPR go off the charts. It's crazy how easy that kind of thing can give you advantage. Even without the Rifter material, just putting a few million dollars worth of A.I. installed into a normal power armor is just as good.
>>95933363Its a game flow/power level thing, for me if my wizard PC has two giant robots on auto pilot, cant be harmed by lasers and shoots never missing lightening what is the point of the other players joing combat
ANYHOW NEW THREAD TIME! Better art this time, more chrome!
>>95933371>>95933371>>95933371
>>95932957>3million burrito dollars have been deposited in your account.Don't forget you pick up a shadow boy. Remember, you don't need the laser resistance if you don't get hit!
Really though I like how there is a cheap SAMAS knockoff and then after that is the good SAMAS knockoff. Still it is to note that there are lots of different SAMAS like PAs.
