it's less that I ban particulars and more that I make a short player's guide (similar to the paizo AP ones but less full of useless shit) about my setting and include the available races suitable for playable characters (generally 4-8) and their rough culture, and say "please pick something that fits within the vision of and is mechanically suitable for the setting I've made"

2e, automatons Reinforced Chassis feat seems amazing for cloth casters,1 feat for effectively weightless heavy armor you can sleep in. Though the imagery of a Automaton Wizard, Witch, Sorcerer, or Psychic is odd.

They only look inconsistent now because Dragonblood's didn't follow how they used to work, but now that remastered Automaton's has been changed to be more like Dragonblood's you should expect them to work like that going forward. Here me out here: being both a Defender and Healer is kinda redundant. The way Divine Font works, you can't temper your healing. You will overheal more often than not. It makes more sense to take an option that grants (You) protection and keep you up for longer, over reducing a big hit you were gonna heal back up to full in the first place.
Warpriest doesn't really gain self damage reduction and isn't about sticking in the backline like Cloistered is. And while they get easy access to Shield Block and Heavy Armor faster, that sort of just it + you become reliant on a Crafting bitch to keep your shield maintained. You also tend to spend more Divine Font slots on yourself over your allies, not even counting the Fonts you use for Smiting. So Warpriest can be a bit of a self-defeating concept if you don't bring your A-game.

the thing is, it's not hard to print feats and spells that people would actually want to take, and they have/had an opportunity to just be doing it for years. "what constitutes a good thing" was solved within months, it's how they made the divine list not suck dick

I was pretty late to 1e discussions but even I remember just how awful a lot of lategame player option books were. I'm still amazed how fucked Occult Adventures and Advanced Class Guide classes are, they can't even get Unchained stuff now (side note to the Starfinder1e crowd; how was the Enhanced book? I noticed that really got buried under the SF2e reveal, so I heard nothing on it since launch). Hell, you can't even get good lore from the World Guides, most of the shit was expanded in either APs or 2e!

Paizo's production and split team focus is both a blessing and a curse. There's new shit every month, but also new SHIT every month...

I'm playing a fighter with an exemplar dedication and titan's breaker on a greataxe, and these enemies are STILL taking too long to die... we had a combat against five "strike three times" enemies and it still took like an hour and 45 minutes to complete...

I didn't play a ton of SF1e but of the times I did play, I played an envoy, and the enhanced book fixed exactly one thing (not enough early features) and left most of the rest of my problems with the class untouched (I still sucked at most skills)

From what I saw of Solarian, basically 0 of its real problems got fixed and it mocked complaints by giving it a highly limited cha-to-att/dmg midway through level progression, behind an "after using zenith revelation" activation wall.

I think since that game is still so far off, most of the "how" hasn't really been discussed sadly since I don't know how much of it is just flavor pick and how much of it is wanting any of the feats. I know if I was running a game I would probably change the heritage natural attack to have a choice of like, finesse or something else, then make the size increase feats be less shit (no clumsy or sustain requirement since your only benefit is size with no reach/damage increase, and the upgrade feat adds the reach and removes all the frequency fuckery)

I couldn't say that. It feels like I never get to have as much fun with feats as I did with exemplar dedication and second ikon. So many flavorful options that actually feel impactful and give more than one benefit each. And I even get to upgrade the way I interact with Shift Immanence.

In most other cases (mc) archetypes feel anemic as hell.

The entire thing is funny because actual paizo authors didn't really say much, and there's a lot of legitimacy from less insane players that things that are Samurai and Ninja-shaped are perfectly doable. There is interesting conversation in comparing all the ways to do it as compared to a theoretical new thing with those names.

That is in fact the snag I'm hitting and why I decided to whine in /pgg/ about Athletics. It sucks that I could do EXACTLY what I want to do with a kukri and tekko-kagi and run in, trip, disarm a fucker, and then if I picked fighter just have him by the balls on the ground disarmed and swinging at -4 (if he even still has his weapon) and primed for an AoO if he fixes either condition. But the character doing it in my head isn't an 18 strength gorilla.
The thing is that character doesn't even do any fucking damage or progress the fight towards a conclusion, whereas if I were to just do a 4 dex thief rogue, run in and strike twice, I'm doing just that. And none of it is even good enough to work on bosses. People talk up and down about all the tactical options you have in this fucking game but there's always fuckall you can do as a martial besides hammer things with strikes and shit out demoralize/bon mot/OFA bonuses. We used to play with it, but some discussions happened and we mostly agreed that it was just minmax city (because one player used it to scoop extremely high value stuff only in the only high level game we ever played). I didn't really agree and just said "all you have to do is not do that," but I was overturned, and now we run without it.
There's only one guy at my table who actually likes running the system and he's one of those level 3 to 7 only guys. The sole aforementioned exception was finishing Ruby Phoenix with free archetype, which spelled the end of FA.

One of these days I'm gonna do a Flurry ranger ninja. Dex-based means studded leather armor off the rip for the pic-related look. Shurikens are reload 0 so they work with Hunted Shot, and they're agile too, unlike bows. The 20' range would be a problem for most characters, but ranger has access to Far Shot at level 4, and can even pick up Strong Arm from the rogue archetype if they want even more range. They're almost certainly going rogue at some point anyway for access to Mobility, which basically gives them a gigantic Step that they can use to get away from melee opponents before unloading three shurikens into them. There's a few places to go from there.

You could go down the Warden's Boon/Shared Prey tree to buff your martials' iterative attacks and enable three-Strike turns. You probably also want Initiate/Advanced Warden for Gravity Weapon and Animal Feature, focus spells that grant you a flat damage boost (great for making 4 attacks per turn) and a fly speed respectively. Since you're boosting STR/DEX/CON/WIS you'll qualify for the fighter dedication by the time you're out of rogue, which lets you grab Assisting Shot to buff your allies some more, and eventually Felling Strike so your gatling gun of shurikens drops fliers out of the sky. You can also afford Distracting Shot/Greater to make enemies you tag off-guard, then head back to rogue and take Sneak Attacker to take advantage of that with another flat damage boost. If you're not in a FA game you'll have to pick and choose from these, if you're using FA you can just scoop up all of them.

On the skill side of things, I might be tempted to grab the jumping/climbing feats from Athletics along with assurance. Since shurikens are one-handed, you'll have a hand free for cllimbing, meaning that, in your later levels, you'll be able to leap/run up walls and cling to them while throwing ninja stars. On top of that I just think the Hunt Prey action fits really well with a shinobi character. It's rad.

Players are about to engage in PVP due to AV making the mistake of having a non -immediately hostile mummy and me deciding to to roleplay a bad guy as a dick for once.

Party is split between the cleric and the other 3. I assumed we all knew it was gonna go to violence since they've been chaffing with the cleric for a while, so I railroaded them into having their morale argument in a spot where I explicitly said there were no witnesses and no one to call for help. The other 3 missed this cue and let the cleric leave alive while they left the town tod find a living sacrifice for the mummy (for a vague implication of power I offered)

Cleric, left to his own devices, has

1. Informed the guard captain of what they're doing
2. Recruited the NPC cleric to back him up
3. Paid a hefty sum for the towns only newspaper to run a tell all story .
4. Gotten other good aligned NPC's to show up for support with the promise to help if it comes to lethal violence

The cleric is now in a very strong position to win. I'm trying to let this happen as non biasedly as I can but I've been telling the players that cavorting with undead is heavily frowned upon and straight up illegal in most places.

All the players are being good sports about the possibility of dying but I can already feel the "evil" party chimping out if they die.

Kholo are still assholes in the Monster Core, even if they're not literal demons like their DnD counterparts. They have internally consistent reasons for acting the way they do, but that doesn't change the fact that for people outside their pack they come across as honorless cowards who raid settlements and caravans, use dirty tricks, and are liable to backstab their allies as soon as they're outlived their usefulness to the pack. Old pathfinder drow were an edgy answer to how FR had been filing the edges off of them; paizo wanted then to be close to how they were portrayed in d&d before. Paizo were shifting away from the edge so remastering them would have probably meant filing the edges off and creating an identity for them that nobody would have given a fuck about because it's nobody's idea of drow.

They were in a position where keeping them as they were would have been at odds with the goals of the remaster but changing them would have pleased absolutely nobody, cutting them entirely was the correct decision.

I don't see making races less one-dimensional as being inherently bad. DnD 5e and PF2 Gnolls/Kholo are both a different take on expanding their established lore of them being cannibalistic raiders, but go about it in a different way.
DnD Gnolls are literal demons that are born by bursting out of a body of a hyena that has eaten human flesh, and exist purely to murder and devour.
PF2 Kholo are a race with a tribal society that has a very strong "us vs them" mentality, valuing their own lives but not considering the lives of outsiders to be of any worth. That means they have no qualms about killing and stealing from outsiders, and will seek to limit their own casualties by always stacking the odds in their favor. They also practice ritual cannibalism, devouring the corpses of the fallen to gain their strength.

Both takes seek to explain why the race is known as cannibalistic murderes, but follow different schools of worldbuilding. DnD Gnolls are an example of the "dude, that's metal!" school of worldbuilding that cares more about things being cool than being realistic. It justifies Gnolls gnolls being known as murderous cannibals by making them literal demons that only exist to murder and cannibalize. On top of the general idea that Focus Spells are a feat investment, Monk and ki always had a weird relationship in D&Dclones. While I can't imagine it is a large group, I can see some people not really appreciating the "magical breathing power" still being a core part of a class based around physical self improvement and absconding worldliness. It's a similar oddness to Druids being against Metal, it is a core part of nature and is incorrectly associating two aspects together:

Just doing a sanity check here: Alchemical Power isn't great for somebody who's multiclassing alchemist for poisons, is it? Unless you happen to be an intelligence character like a Mastermind rogue or investigator or something. The combination of never getting above Expert in your alchemist DC and having it be int-based means that your alchemist DC is low enough that you'll almost always be crafting poisons with Advanced Alchemy that have higher DCs than you could give them with Alchemical Power. I guess it'd allow you to buy dirt-cheap low-level injury poisons and give them a semi-competitive save DC, but low-level injury poisons are going to do low-level damage, the save isn't likely to be failed by on-level enemies anyway, and even super low-level poisons are expensive enough to add up if you buy too many of them (e.g. the level 4 Essence of Mandragora, the lowest-level way to reliably apply Stupefied, is still 20gp a pop).

It feels weird to skip it but I honestly don't see a reason to grab it.

Two major problems for Solarians.

1. Playing the waiting game
Combat goes very quickly in Starfinder and you often end up with scenarios where you can finally use one of your zeniths, but there is only one or two badly weakened enemies left. Or the few times when you don't get enough time.

2. Cost-Benefits
Many revelations cost actions to turn on. Plasma Sheath, Dark Matter, and many other revelations have the text
