they fund bullshit and mass acquire IP/licenses that they can't do anything with (or fast enough).
Also the US tariffs raped cardboard and plastic. But I suspect they had other issues and this was just a tipping point

Turns out being a pump and dump manufacturer of board games on Kickstarter isn't a good or sustainable business model?

Tariffs. They make everything in China and produce all their games on the back of funds accumulated in the KS for the next games. Tariffs swung massively instability into their market model, they ran out of funds, stock crashed and they've had to sell their most profitable IPs to other board game companies just to keep treading water.

Now most board game companies make everything in China, but most board game companies are not solely funded by KS and have a more distributed market outside the US even for what they are crowdfunding. Stuff like Zombicide and CMON's Marvel game are massively sold within the US even on KS. So most people have just slapped some extra shipping charges for Americans on the KSs they are running, but CMON got completely fucked. Not the first time a company has gone down like this, KS mismanagement is eternal, but probably the largest example.

>pump and dump business model
>more concerned with filling a box full of plastic miniatures than making a functional game
>those plastic miniatures are made with shitty materials to cut even more cost despite being the main selling point
>overseas production finally fucks then in the ass because lmaotariffs

they’ve had it coming for a long time

How is asmodee doing so well that they can afford everyone's dead games? And then, they don't even print or support the games, so they don't make money off them anyway. Is asmodee the mafia or something?

They're basically powered by a hedge fund that's just trying to flip everything for cash. That's why they tried to sell out to the saudis. They aren't interested at all in the actual properties, or making games, or anything like that. It's just "asset management."

Sorry, anon. The generals here on four channel dot org know jack shit about about Magic. It is not dying, it is not losing Hasbro money, and most importantly, the paying customers still like it.

Does that technically make them a Ponzi scheme?

Hopefully it means the JTRPGs they've been hoarding the license for will be disabled, allowing Fan Translations to continue.

Of course not, that would be illegal. This is just some... creative and flexible accounting.

That would take bankruptcy and the dissolution of the company, presumably what they are trying to avoid by selling off IPs piecemeal. And that's not how use licenses work anyway.

Buying up well loved franchises with inbuilt core audiences only to kill them off after a year because ”line don’t go up FAST ENOUGH” isn’t sustainable in the long term.
