It's trivially easy to play WFRP completely straight. Some of the scenarios (etc) do just that.

The only reason to play Zweihander is if you hate GeeDubs or you love that one asshole who made it.

Zweihander was a response to Warhammer FRPG3E being more of a prototype for Genesys with cardgame elements than it was a real 3rd-edition of the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying Game.
In its inception it was a fine idea, take WHFRP2E and pull out the the stuff GW can sue over and publish it.
But then the playtest documents got leaked and the creator went on a crusade getting petabytes of shared content nuked, and even threatened to sue 4chan over people talking about the leaked content here.
The creator is a literal cuck and a complete asshat.
Basically, just pirate WHFRP2E, and if you find any ZH modules you like use them with 2E.

Eh, they are retards, but it's still not a very good game mechanically. A lot of things were changed from WHFRP 2e that make them very clunky. I specifically remember the way the alignment worked and the way damage worked to be really unnecessarily convoluted without any real gain. Someone posted the first 50 or so pages of the beta of this version on here recently, and it seemed like the only change was that they added a fuckload of races for some reason (I don't want to play a living statue in my Warhammer rip off).

In a world were you have the relatively lighter WHFRP 2e and the crunchier 4e, Zweihander doesn't really have a reason to exist. And, honestly, the real answer for these kind of games is Warlock!

If you care about mechanics, there is no reason to use Zweihander when WHFRP2E exists, but yes there is a mechanical difference. Zweihander's magic system is a half-baked bandaid placed over the removal of the warhammer lore that is integral to magic in the base ruleset.

I was a betatester for ZH way before any of the Daniel drama started on 4chan.
It is (or was, I have 0 experience with anything that came after 1.0) really mediocre, and the changes made to WHFRP 2e aren't for the most part improvements. The way gunpowder and the hp system works for example is just annoying, and should have been killed in the design phase.

I played ZH for a single short campaign for the playtest and never touched it again. Then WFRP 4e came out and was an actual honest to god improvement on 2e without a bunch of annoying shit, and I've stuck with that since.

So as someone who was in on the ground floor hoping this game would be a good replacement for WFRP 2e, it's not. It plays worse than both 2e and especially 4e.

In brief, Tetsubo was an unpublished book for WFRP in the 80s due to mostly just being a Japanese RPG with little or no Warhammer elements and GW's waning interest in the RPG market at the time.
So Daniel D. Fox gets the licence in 2018 from Dave Morris and Jamie Thomson and tasks them with completing the book for Zheihander
however after some time, he gets annoyed that the two original writers are white British guys and basically stop producing and refused to continue until the writing team was replaced with a English speaking Japanse RPG writer.
The rights later lapse and it's handed back to its original creators who may publish it in a different system at some point
