Genesys is fine for a generic system. There's also a modiphius game for John Carter of Mars, but I don't know if it's any good.

I have played at least one space fantasy D&D 4e game, and Path/Starfinder 2e is supposed to be space fantasy. Draw Steel! also has space fantasy baked into its setting.

I have been trying to write up a level 7 Draw Steel! adventure set in the space fantasy segment of the setting. Once it is fully written and playtested, I can post it to /tg/, if anyone is interested.

No one is interested, except in a "looking at a car crash" kind of way.

The one you know and like. That's a question of plot, not rules. It can be done well in any system that can do it at all. I ran a Spelljammer set in the Astromundi Cluster that was just a rip off of Pirates of Dark Water. It went wonderfully. You could just as easily use anything from Gurps to Rifts to SWN to any of the Star Wars systems, or that World of Darkness scifi system I can never remember the name of. Or really what the hell ever. Any halfway decent set of RPG mechanics can handle pretty much any plot without problem.

I've been wondering that too, never tried their 2d20 system that their Conan game used too, but opinions online are pretty divide on it.

I haven't played the Conan system, but I did just start up Star Trek Adventures. I don't know how well it'd translate to something like Conan where you'd really be expecting a lot of action-packed, combat-focused gameplay. Honestly that feels like a job more for something D&D like with levels and lots of stats and moves and equipment and bonuses. But for capturing the feeling of Star Trek? The 2d20 system is fucking amazing. The way it's structured into narrative episodes with players pushing momentum and threat back and forth and combat really being a very minor focus? It's fucking masterful.

Conan 2d20 and STA use two different versions of 2d20. The formers is crunchier and more action orientated, and it's got all the things you're talking about bar levels. See the picrel for a character sheet example of early Conan. But who cares about those really? I'm pretty sure John Carter uses something closer to STA's but it's got a conversion guide to Conan.

Ah. I guess that's not surprising. That does look significantly crunchier. I dunno, if I want crunchy gameplay I generally feel like "why bother learning yet another one?" But they what I feel like is such a good job w/ STA that I'd prolly be willing to give it a shot.

Because Romanticism is all about exploring the wonders of nature, and marvelling at the beauty of creation. What better setting than one that explore news worlds and explore the infinite universe?

And lusting after your cousins. Never forget the lusting after your cousins. It's the main plot point in virtually every Romantic era novel.

Different games are good for different things. A lot of Star Trek is fairly pulpy as it is and the same things in STA that make that work, like its dice resolution and metacurrencies, are present in Conan 2d20 too. They are using the same basic engine just at two different levels of crunch. Conan and D&D are also not really gunning for similar styles of fantasy either so it's not like they're two things in the same space. Conan's setting is also not well serviced by D&D's assumptions, where as Conan 2d20 is purpose built to facilitate it. It's also just a better game by a good distance IMO.

Alpha Blue was made for this hands down. It's like TiTS brought down to Captain Kirk level of explicitness.

You're casting a pretty wide net, so can you tell us what sort of planetary romance you're trying to emulate? Barsoom isn't Star Wars, which isn't Outlaw Star which isn't DIRKAS! IN! SPAAAAAACE!

You can just say "space fantasy", it won't hurt you.
