Fuck you all, I LIKED D&D 4e, and 5e, 5.5, Pathfinder 2e and Tales of the Valiant all suck by comparison.

Then play it. Maybe even tell us about how your game went if this thread's still up.

Then play it, dumbass. But you don't play any games, you just want to be a contrarian because reddit told you 4e bad

Why the fuck is there significant overlap between 4e haters and Lancer fans? Are they only pretending to have played 4th?

What did you like about 4e specifically?
I'm in the mood for some tactical dungeon crawling with just a light veneer of an RPG.

NTA but the take on classes it had gave way more room for interesting concepts while also retaining what you could think of as "core D&D". 5e missed out on a lot with its mandate to concentrate on only what the surveys outlined as "core D&D", especially since it seems that most of those people were diehard 3.x players who only wanted post-2000 versions of the classes and their capabilities represented.

4e fighters might not be much good at siegecraft, but at least they can remain viable for 30 levels. Unless you took a non-Weaponmaster, perhaps.

Lorewise, it was a fresh take on fantasy classes that didn't need to throw it all out and start over. Specifically, it sidestepped the tired fighter vs wizard bitchfests by making Martial its own power source, the equivalent of Magic and Divinity. 4e had literal muscle wizards and shit, it was great.

Mechanics-wise, the character builder gave you tremendous freedom to fuck about making a dude who could do a quirky thing without begging the DM for permission to houserule it. Fun build examples included the Lazy Warlord (who'd take all the powers that would give your allies bonus actions and never do anything yourself) and the Laser Cleric, who'd take all the ray spells and pew pew.

The math is good. 3.PF can be nice if you want to irredeemably break the game by accident or tinker with the laws of reality, but 4e is nice if you want your character to get stronger by fighting and honing skills. Page 42 of the DMG is art.

Now you know how D&D players felt about AD&D players, how AD&D players felt about 2nd edition players and how 3rd edition players though about you. Welcome to the Grog club! You though you were being unique and doing something new by playing the latest thing of the time, but you where in fact just one more mindless drone consumer, used and discarded by the exploitative gaming industry.

ONE OF US! ONE OF US! ONE OF US!

Anyone who says 4e is similar to Lancer has never played it. Literally the only thing they have in common is how their shit is formatted. Which funnily enough is also the only good thing about Lancer.

Nah, they just suck, period.
