>Previous Thread:>>95861389>TQ: What is your favourite mount that your army can take?
>>95875945 (OP)>TQI would love for juggernauts to return as mounts.
If they're not available, can't beat a trusty horse.
I'll probably have a game next week, is taking 6 dragon ogres to a friendly game ungentlemanly? I've no actual dragons, only big monster I have are chimeras, and they're still on oval bases.
>>95875945 (OP)I still think bretonnia should have more monsters
>>95875978Not sure what they could really get. Manticores have been attributed to Chaos/evil and Wyverns to Orcs of their original monster list. They have giant snails and giant leeches as weird native fauna IIRC but neither is really suitable for battle. A knight on giant snail would be funny, but presumably too slow to really be worth using.
With Cathay launching, what are the odds GW will revisit the other 2e/3e human armies, learn how to sculpt female models, and release fully supported Amazons?
>>95876006questing beast
bicorn
mist swan
lake dragon
terrasque
sleipnir
kelpie
farmer/pilgrim giant
>>95876011the only new armies are cathay and kislev
nippon is memory holed, ind is never ever, araby is not kosher
as for tileans and amazons, the only hope is getting back their old models, there's no other possibility
at the very best you might get one of them as blood bowl team, as a treat
>>95876041Amazons are already in Blood Bowl, they're an extremely good team and have been for years.
>>95876046I know, I was giving for implicit it would be one of the others, my mind was on araby in particular.
>>95876026Giants and dragons are right out. Bretonnians would rather kill than ally with them. How could you fight in the Lady's honour fighting alongside a giant or dragon? Sleipnir and kelpies are not French mythology. I have no idea what a mist swan is.
The bicorn, terrasque and questing beast all fit although two of these are not things that would come to mind for knights to ally with or ride.
>>95876011We will only get Amazon's if GW bothers with a Lustria-based campaign for TOW, which is unlikely since the justification for Cathay is an expedition fleet coming to Marianburg
>>95876006Giant snails would probably have a speed of around 5km/hr though which would be cool for heavy chariots or something
>>95876055>How could you fight in the Lady's honour fighting alongside a giant or dragon?what if the lady specifically said these ones are alright?
>not French mythologydo you have an arthurian loicense for that pegasus?
They should give bretonnia giant frogs as mounts
Give them some uppie downie rules
>>95876055>>95876026I actually think the Bretonnian Duke should have access to a specialised type of Wyvern or Dragon. Something a bit smaller than the normal Dragons the High Elves get, but somthing that is very noble looking.
>questing beastIt's funny, because they look like proto-Demigryphs.
>>95876125Skeleton looking good anon
>>95876092That could be cool.
How good is a 600pt+ block of chaos chosen warriors in the old world?
>>95875945 (OP)Two more units mustered to protect the Reikland
>>95876178Another of the Stank
>>95876173Kind of mid currently just because investing so much in infantry is almost never a good idea, but very fun especically if you stick a level 4 demonology wizard in there
>>95876173Quite bad. It'd look pretty cool, though.
>>95876195I really like the THEY'RE WATCHING banner, fun idea.
>>95876145Frogs arent toads
>>95876194Kinda think the AoS method of doing chosen where you just get three chaos lords as a unit and they all have psycho weapons and armor or whatever is probably a better method of execution in current TOW.
>>95876201Reikland colours look quite nice on a steam tank.
>>95876173if the leak of new rules are correct you might end up creating a very sturdy anvil since they would reach a 2+ save in combat, and that's in addition to the chaos armour ward save and the likely mark of nurgle
>>95876209next you'll tell me bats aren't bugs
>>95876207Thank you, anon. It's one of my favourites as well. I'm glad I didn't go with my original idea, which was going to be "I've got my [EYE] on YOU!"
>>95876214I thought the rumoured parry save couldn't bring you to better than 3+?
>>95876026Arthurian legend is full of weird peoples who should be nominally enemies of Camelot and Christendom converting and joining Arthur so I don't think such things should be denied to Bretonnia either. Maybe only as named characters though. They had Saracens and a werewolf for one.
Something like a giant who cosplays a knight or the uncle tom of dragons would be fitting.
>>95876225I don't remember, I thought the 3+ limit was a general rule for stuff other than infantry and cavalry?
A tarrasque is also french folklore
The lou carcolh would be a good giant snail
Or the peluda (porcupine-tortoise-serpent)
A quinotaur would probably be the most good-aligned beast though
>>95875945 (OP)Only one answer.
>>95876325I will never not be amazed at how ridiculous chaos dwarfs look
>>95876041Didn't GW mention the Hobgoblin Khanate, Khuresh and Nippon in one of the posts last week
>>95876357yes but they're just background setting stuff for cathay
>>95875945 (OP)A true dawi only mounts his best warriors
>>95876316These would all be cool.
>>95876125That's a dope shield, anon. Very sinister model.
>>95876360I think Hobgoblins might get in since they are also going to be background stuff for Nippon.
Khuresh and Nippon are probably way less likely sadly
>>95876394kind of gay when you put it that way
Pic from Skaven vs Daemons yesterday. This picture was just for narrative purposes. I rotated my army 90degrees to actually start the game.
We did the O&G narrative scenario with Daemons ambushing a delivery of Doomwheels. We just said that they didn't have any rats to push the wheels so they moved and acted like the pony carts.
I lost but a pretty good game overall.
The back half of my army in the picture got destroyed but held the line long enough for the Doomwheel in the middle to eventually escape as the daemon prince just pounced on the one in front and the dogs caught the one in the back.
The purple Hellpit got distracted fighting Furies then he failed to restrain so he was staring at the cannon for the rest of the game. He never did a single wound while the cannon just whittled him down. Very disappointing.
The Stormvermin and Aspiring Lord on Gorebeast (Large black rat) did great. Some multiple layers of buffs and hexes had my Stormvermin hitting on 4s but wounding on 5s against the Bloodletters but somehow pulled it off and overran into a tzeentch chariot. The DP tried to assist the chariot but the Asp Lord swept in on my turn as the last 7 clanrats gave their lives to redirect some bloodcrushers away from him after a lucky double 1 FBIGO reform move.
>>95876419The high king gets to mount four at the same time, that greedy slut.
>>95876417They also neighbour Kislev currently, so Hob Goblins as a faction make some sense since they are identified as being different from normal greenskins.
>>95875945 (OP)Khemrian Warsphinx
>>95875978>>95876006Something linked to water because of the Lady ponds.
There are reveals of some kind planned today in like a couple hours, right?
>>95876526Beyond the Sunday previews? Not sure.
>>95876394>>95876453>getting carried on a shield alreadyIt's like you're asking for disaster.
>>95876526outside of Sunday Preview i kinda doubt it
>>95876417>>95876478I really don't get this idea that mongobs would be a completely separate faction instead of one or two units added to greenskins
black orcs aren't a different faction
night goblins aren't a different faction
savage orcs aren't a different faction
forest goblins aren't a different faction
>>95876599Other greenskins hate Hobgoblins.
>>95876599Orcs 'n Goblins as a faction have always had those 4 subgroups incorporated into them, it's what OnG are and they invariably mix up as the Western greenskins WAAGH.
Hobgoblins, especially the Eastern ones never have been and were limited to the ROR and don't really have much precent for mixing with the western greenskins, especially after the animosity towards hobgobs from the chorf shenanigans.
>>95876631a lot of greenskins hate a lot of the other greenskins, it never actually mattered.
the followers of khorne also hate with a passion the followers of slaanesh, yet it's still logical for them to share one book and to leave to the player how to limit things depending on what his army is meant to represent.
>>95876599GW loves microfactions these days.
>>95876668>sold out online inthe UKIt was either very popular with TOW players or GW made at most 100 kits
>>95876657not greenskin ones, even in aos the wolf riders are shoved into the same book as the night goblins and the morky orcs are shoved in the same book as the iron orcs.
>>95876668Describe in your own words how you imagine it lands and then we can talk.
I never noticed that the Engineers have robot pokemon in the official art
>>95876694nta but it just lands on a specially designed landing gear that looks like a storage rack for a boat
It can't land on land in rough terrain
>>95876696I never liked their robot horses, a bit too much for my taste
>>95876694The bird lands on the ground and chariot smashes into the back of it, killing both the bird and crew.
>>95876668How does a helicopter or a jet land
>>95876696have higher quality
>>95876717Those have exterior Landing gear to land on the ground, either on helipads or runways.
The Skycutter doesn't have that sort of stuff visible and has no way to store it
could land in the Water perhaps.
>>95876717Well a helicopter lands straight down vertically. A jet lands horizontally
attempting to do both of those things at once will end poorly.
>>95876713Hey, now you're just making the goblins jealous
>>95876694I can't even imagine how it fights
>>95876726That bird with a face for a torso is sick as hell but the kaladesh beetle thing sucks
Anyone know of any good 3d sculptors that have done the full Ogre Kingdoms range? I like Highlands Ogres but he's only done the basic bulls and gunners.

>>95876694I'm ESL so i rather draw.
Has anyone got a colour scan of 6th ed Ogre Kingdoms army book? I can only find black and white, annoyingly.
>>95876824nta, but since the harness in on the back of the bird and has no slack....this kills the bird
>>95876730I'm fairly certain it floats on a cushion of magic air, so they probably hover just above the ground when not pulled by the bird.

๐
>>95876694It all works on water
they use an intermediary rein for take off and instead detach from the bird completely and simply glide down when landing
>>95876668nobody would have ever questioned a damn thing if it was a chariot pulled by pegasi or a hippogryph
>>95877003all they had to do was put wheels on it
>>95877037and make the griffin a anime girl
>>95877044Could Warhammer harness waifuism to bring the setting back?
>>95877057It's literally the only way anyone would give a shit.
>>95877037the wheels aren't the problem, it's that the chariot is tied to the bird by a rope rather than a harness
without a harness whatever pulls the chariot cannot slow down without the momentum of the chariot behind making it crash against it*, with a harness if the animal pulling the chariot decelerates so does the chariot behind at the same rate
*which is twice as bad here because the chariot has got a fucking narvhal horn at the front
So who does all the work in High Elf society if they don't have slaves? Does Ulthuan have elf peasants? Holy shit imagine being an immortal peasant
Anyone else notice that the M2O Beastmen characters come with 25mm bases as well? GW already abandoning TOW?
>>95877088No, it's because they want you to be able to rank them up with the other beastmen units, which can come on 25s or 30s. You would know this if you read properly, but you chose to post low quality bait instead. Shame on you.
>>95877087Idealized citizen farmers
>>95877087>Does Ulthuan have elf peasants? Not everyone is a noble, so yes, but ulthuan is a paradise, chances are they have to work very little in order to get plenty of resources, plus it's probably approached as a bucolic hobby more than a backbreaking job, like one can imagine tailoring, forging and crafting other tools too being more about the artistry than the mass production of it, both because elven demographics are shrinking and also because elven craft is likely so high in quality to be very long lived so they wouldn't need to churn out stuff at fast rate at any point, they can always use some thousands years old dress or armor or fork that once belonged to grandma.
>>95877087They do have Slaves, they are just called "indentured servants"
High elves can be peasants, where it's more like being a member of an uber idyllic rural society outside of maybe some of the outer kingdoms like Yvresse or Nagarythe
>>95877088How is it abandoning TOW when TOW uses 25mm bases?
>>95876694The fluff says it's enchanted, special wood that they put more enchantments on
> Make boat from magic wood> Enchant> Say the magic words FUCK JANNIES FUCK TRANNYS FUCK NIGGERS> Boat lifts off the ground> Bird flies around pulling it> Say magic words again> Boat lands
>>95877166Is the bird magically enchanted to float in the air too?
>>95876937the rope is a lot shorter, it will still clip its tail
>>95877139So basically elves with a submission fetish
>>95877209>gets btfo>thinks about gays
Cathay
>https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/piux6zf8/sunday-preview-grand-cathay-marches-from-nan-gau/
>>95877275What a waste of resources
>>95877275confirmation of the fat guy on foot
>>95877275>This box will be available while stocks last. Figured it was way too nice of GW to keep a battalion discount for a box of all-new miniatures.
>>95877087>Does Ulthuan have elf peasants?Yes, and all manners of other regular workers.
If you think being a peasant equals to being downtrodden and poor, then you have a poor understanding of peasant work.
>>95877275meh. Maybe if the box goes on a bit of a discount ill get this.
>>95877302oh, well now im not getting into cathay at all now.
>>95877304This is Warhammer, I kinda expect Warhammer peasent's to be downtrodden and poor for the most part, with a burgeoning middle class in the Towns and cities
>>95877275Crap, I hope my LGS can get a batallion box for me.
>>95877285Well he is fat.
>>95877302>>95877311They're expecting it to sell out and never offer again like the other game's FOMO boxes? I wanted to get one but I have a high chance of moving to the middle of nowhere where there's no one to play with, much less hobby with so was thinking of holding off buying til the move is a 100%.
>>95877263Must be Russian.
>>95877326Not high elves, though.
>>95877326If you want a grimdark angle they probably live in far too large manses left behind by much more glorious ancestors and don't have the ability to exploit all their agricultural land.
>>95877348sure but even then being an random Kith in even one of the nicer outer kingdoms like Tiranoc or Cothquie might suck to an extent
>>95877302>>95877328>>95877335It's really down to whether the units are worth fielding for me or whether you rate it purely as a modelling project. You're not crying out for infantry and artillery in TOW as it is currently.
>>95877326>This is WarhammerYou're thinking humans
Elves aren't humans
It's pretty fucking funny they decided to FOMO the new army's army box. Come on dude.
>>95877365Considering the Matchplay book is also getting released next week, we should expect a complete Rules errata and new FAQ as well
>>95877370wait a minute, so their battalion box wont even be available after a week or so?
thats grim
>>95877365I will always play infantry and artillery.
Dont care for the meta.
>>95877275I know we knew what this was going to come with, but I do kinda wish they had put in 10 less jade warriors and/or subbed out one cannon for either the sky lantern or a sentinel. I suspect you're really going to want both of those.
Also a little weird everything but miao ying is launching, but no separate jade warriors boxes? So if you miss the battalion you just don't have an army, and the only way to get more/less infantry, cavalry and artillery is to buy multiple battalions?
>>95877389I have the feeling Cathay are going to be pretty pushed so it'll probably work out regardless.
>>95877349there's also monsters descending from the mountains and the patrols are very stretched out at all times, so I imagine there's quite a few tragic tales of isolated rural houses or small villages going silent all of a sudden.
>>95877365>You're not crying out for infantry and artillery in TOW as it is currently.I doubt the the cavalry is a core troop choice.
>>95877400Why? They look like a knight equivalent. Empire, Chaos and Bretonnia can all run generic knights as core.
GW can no longer ignore the catering to scalpers accusations.
so.....does that mean if you miss this run then there will be a worse battalion released later? or are they putting a stop to permanently available battalion boxes?
wtf is going on?
>>95877427It means they'll only be sold separately
>>95877427>if you miss this run then there will be a worse battalion released later? This would be my guess however, I'm not sure what they would put into such a box since this release shows all the currently announced models for Cathay, sans Miao Ying.
>>95877275Just show me the rules bro (ik itโs next week). Why would I put in an order with my LGS if theyโre going to be unfun or dogshit
Also
>available whilst stocks lastGuess I ainโt getting it anyway. Just make it MTO?
I wonder if it's just a case that the old armies had a metric fuck load of sprues in storage that GW just re-boxed for sale instead of being new makes. That obviously wouldn't be the case for a new army. Still really dumb though
>>95877427It means they have limited stocks atm and are trying to drive tomorrow. They may restock later, re release it, do another batallion box on thr 2nd release wave, or never again. It's GW.
>>95877304Also, even the poorest of elven peasants are at least mid level rich compared to humans simply cause If you save a coin a month for 500 years you've got a good savings. And that's before including the possibility of banking/interest, but that's also probably not used by elves.
>>95877410It's an elite cavalry, not a basic cavalry, and gw has interests in making you buy the infantry too.
>>95877427>a worse battalion released later?More likely there's not going to be any battalion and you have to get the troops piecemeal
Unless the actual battalion will be for when they come out with the peasants.
>>95877460Jokes on them, I donโt even buy models.
>>95877452I doubt it's a matter of old stock as much as of old kits: most models in battalion boxes are stuff you wouldn't really buy if you didn't have a hefty discount over the alternatives.
>>95877275I was planning n starting a Cathay army when I finished up a couple projects I'm currently working on. If there's no Battalion Box, that makes the idea more expensive than I'm up for.
>>95877390it will be two waves of releases, like other TOW armies have been before.
>>95877483BM and WE released everything at once didn't they?
i guess the other armies battalion boxes being permanently available is just them dumping warehouses of decades of left over stock then eh?
>>95877493we still haven't got the Preyton for Beastmen but i think beside that yes
Wait so is the mounted Lord going to be the only caster for Cathay at launch?
I hope the second cathayan wave doesn't come with the second arcane journal
>>95877532It does theyโve said thereโs a second journal already. Thereโs no way theyโve included unit profiles with no models in the first one
>>95877529they might release some resin heroes on foot, but they haven't announced that yet
>>95877529Unless the fat man can also be made a caster.
what's the cathay equivalent for social credits?
>>95877536Why are they selling us two army books lmao
>>95877532They aren't releasing Miao Ying in this wave, so I would expect her first along with the single boxes for Jade Warriors, Lancer, Cannons etc, before we get the next block of Cathay models and Second AJ.
>>95877452No, it's almost never an issue of having left over stock. It's about the molds. TOW molds are old, they've already been paid for. Some number of them required retooling, but that's still a lot cheaper than making a whole new mold from scratch.
Cathay is entirely new, big, expensive molds. So they need people buying those kits at full price to justify the cost of the molds.
>>95877548Money
Another reason is so GW doesn't have to change its book format for TOW so every book besides the Core rulebook and FOF/RH will be AJ in the future
>>95877548They always were, that's how the game has worked since the beginning
>U WANT SPELLCASTER
>U WANT RANGED TROOP
>U WANT PEASANT TROOP
>TOO BAD!
>YOU BUY THIS NOW QUICK!
>MAYBE MORE LATER
>U TOO SLOW?
>NOTHING FOR U!
>>95877536>second journalassuming the release is split in perfect halves
>storm dragon / iron dragon>sentinel statue / lion statue>sky lantern & magistrate / war compass & astromancer>artillery / handgunners>jade cavalry / crowmen>jade infantry / peasants>hero on longma / hero on war drum>other heroes / alchemists
>>95877586>assuming the release is split in perfect halvesIt is not because Miao Ying is not here with wave 1.
>>95877594Why are you running on the assumption that miao ying is getting released with the second arcane journal rather than some time after this first week?
Don't be dummies, it's going to work the same as every army release in this game so far. One book has the basic army rules, then a second book with armies of infamy and special characters and units
>>95877495Ah yes, the decades of mass trianoc chariots, gyrocopters, Pegasus knights, ghorgons, sisters of the thorn, steam tanks, surely just sitting there.
While I think TOW started as a way to cash in on nostalgia, I doubt they kept stocks that long.
>>95877647You'd be able to tell if the sprues were that old, they yellow with age
>>95877667so that's why we have Cathay now, I see
I'll get into Cathay if they get more units like this. Give me peasants, ogres, gunpowder. I want an army that doesn't lean into the terracotta and jade mystical whimsy bullshit, I want alchemists cooking up kooky concoctions and hanging out with ogres
I'm getting into TOW with a friend, but I'm curious how long do you think this game will be supported for?
Do you think it has a long life ahead of it?
I've been asking around at some LGSs and haven't seen anyone playing it.
Do you think Total War or Vermintide will help breathe life back into Fantasy?
>>95877690It will supplant Age of Sigmar and become GW's mainline fantasy wargame.
>>95877689Since they seem to be lifting the Total War units for Cathay completely 1:1, you'll get crane gunners and peasants in the second arcane journal along with their celestial guard elites
Jade warriors are somewhere between empire troops and bretonnian knights of the realm, they're not extraordinarily elite but definitely not outright chumps
>>95877697>GW squats AoS>licenses a bunch of vidya after its death that brings new interest to the setting>relaunches it as The New WorldTrue if big.
>>95877690>Do you think Total War or Vermintide will help breathe life back into Fantasy?already happened
>I've been asking around at some LGSs and haven't seen anyone playing it.It depends on your region. You have to ask around. We had a tournament in my 80k population city with around 50 participants recently.
>Do you think it has a long life ahead of it?Definitely. It's sold above expectations and they'll be releasing more armies after Cathay, according to GW. And even if they don't, you'll at least have a friend to play with. I play with two of my friends regularly and both of them got into WHFB due to TOW, whereas I had a bunch of models from when I was a kid.
>>95877707I'm surprised Dark Elves haven't been squatted in AoS yet.
>>95877697>the goblin was righttick tock
>>95877697The calibre of tow players is much higher. I played one aos game against a troon with mostly unpainted stormcast. My main tow opponent is a priest with a fully painted army.
>>95877544Fat man in total war is not a caster, more of a support character who provides buffs to the army on the map and to units nearby in battle, but itโs a very good warrior himself and knows no magic.
>>95877726I don't give a single fuck about total war you stupid cunt. Don't you ever fucking reply to me again.
>>95877713>We had a tournament in my 80k population city with around 50 participants recentlyAwesome. I live in a town with about half that population.
Some of the store owners have said their customers are collecting for it, but haven't brought it in to play yet so it's still dominated by 40k/AoS.
Maybe it'll change in the future around here.
>>95877690my scene would probably be dead if we didnt incorporate winner tops
>>95877731it's a Total War army babe deal with it
>>95877732Well me and my buddies didn't even take part in the tournament, we just know it happened. If you want to get a scene going you may have to be the one to make it so, advertise at your LGS etc. My city doesn't even have a game store haha.
>>95877752Honestly in a town of 40k i'd be surprised if they can sustain a LGS unless they are part of a larger metro.
>>95877755We have several other townships in the county. So all together we have a decent pop, but there's some travel time to get to an LGS for some people.
>>95877731If you don't care about Total War why are you posting in the Total War board game thread?
>>95877731The army is there because of the game, just like the blood ravens chapter for 40k
>>95877275>while stocks lastI hate GW so much, now I really have to think whether or not I want to get into Cathay. And I have a week to consider it. What cunts.
>>95876011Fantasy/TOW is in a weird position because of just how much of the setting is pulled from real-world historical cultures. The minute GW tries to do "non-European" factions - like Ind, Araby, or even the Amazons - some cock sucking moral busybody (likely within the company itself) will throw an absolute shitfit about "offensive" this depiction of X culture is, and how GW participating in "cultural appropriation".
In the event we do get these facitons, expect them to wind up like Cathay - which is to say an extremely generic depiction of superficial, nondiscript elements of that particular culture as seen in other fantasy settings. An impression of an impression, you might say. Expecting some interesting twist on, say, the Ottoman Empire or one (or more) of the various Indian powers, is so far beyond the scope of what GW can, or is willing, to do.
>>95877690>Do you think Total War or Vermintide will help breathe life back into Fantasy? Those are THE reason why WHFB has made a comeback.
GW not taking advantage of the new life breathed into WHFB sooner is absolutely retarded of them. So many new people have been exposed to what WHFB had to offer and when they went to check it out they only found remnants of it in AoS which is nothing like the former.
>>95877697I highly doubt that even with wishful thinking. But I have noticed the amount of people playing AoS in my area has slowly decreased and more people keep coming to TOW games.
>>95877731Everything in the lead up videos and articles says the models are heavily based off the TW game's take. Some differences are like robes because that's ass in the engine but ok on table top
>>95876011we got the blood bowl team, it's already something
>>95877787We just need Kislev and we don't need any more human factions in Fantasy after that. We have a metric fuck ton of other races/armies they can focus on. Once they bring back all the Legacy factions they will have what? Like 20 armies to focus on. That's enough to pump out new stuff year round without having to add entire new factions.
Also if there are new factions I would rather they would focus on stuff like Chorfs or Hobgoblins rather than Fantasy Indians.
>>95877787With fantasy ottomans you could lean into these horror elements like the mass fratricide of half-siblings every time an old sultan dies, mute servants choking court members who have fallen out of favour with silk cords, blood tax from conquered peoples... Lots of great material to work with really.
>>95877812It's already so retarded to have Cathay and not have fucking Dark Elves and Vampire Counts as official factions.
>>95877787I think the issue with Cathay is that there's not really a lot of grim or dark with them, they're just a fantastical empire that's super colorful and has some issues, but otherwise have a literal god there to help them out
I would contrast it with Trench Crusade's depiction of the Iron Sultanate where the Muslims are just as grim dark as the Christians, but in their own cool way that has a lot of personality
>>95877697I really really hope this isn't true. Specialist game status is way better than being a mainline game with constant rules churn.
Cathay is ugly and bad and shouldn't exist so I really don't care how half assed the release is and I'm sure the june people will buy it out to pad the funding of the old world and I'll just not play with them
>>95877817Right but random Arab people and liberals would complain so instead they'll be good guys unfairly persecuted by Bretonnia, at worst a little misunderstood.
>>95877812>Once they bring back all the Legacy factions they will have what? When the hell are they doing that already? I want my Skaven journal.
Will be interesting to see GW's year end financial report next week since it'll be the first full report since ToW started
>>95877823Yeah it's really frustrating GW has gone for retcons and a squeaky clean depiction because they just don't have to, plenty of other wargames cast factions inspired by IRL countries in bad lights.
>>95877822They are saving Dark Elves and VC's for when they need guaranteed sales. I am going to buy so many vampire counts you have no idea (my first army as a kid that I foolishly sold off)
>>95877842>Yeah it's really frustrating GW has gone for retcons and a squeaky clean depiction because they just don't have toThey're not *terribly* squeeky clean, since they do emphasize the ridiculously top heavy nature of society in Cathay where if you're not a dragon blood then you're outright disposable, but a little more dirt on everyone would help
>>95877834No one knows, what I am 99.9% certain off going off their communications. Legacy factions are coming back, when we don't know, but they are.
>>95877842This is kind of more across the board. Bretonnia went back in time to their 5th edition Noblebright rendition vs their 6th edition grimdark rendition. It's not just Cathay. And honestly I don't dislike it. 5th edition Brets are kino.
>>95877842Other wargames are not in the "discourse" because the "discourse" only focuses on the largest most visible properties (dnd, mtg, warhammer). although even the very positive depiction of muslims in something like trench crusade got a small amount of fags whining, you simply can't be popular and depict non europeans in anything but a wakanda esque manner and not earn their ire.
>>95877847You can start a vampire counts army right now? Are you just in love with the fugly old zombies or something?
>>95877857The issue is more that their aesthetically very Clean The lore is one thing, but comparing a Jade Warrior to a Man-at-Arms or a State Trooper Model and both those com across as much dirter and grubber than the Jade Warriors
>>95877842Cathay are more overtly unstable in Total War. Creative Assembly went off GW's instructions and guidelines for the game so either GW have changed their minds in how they wish to approach the faction or later Arcane Journals will put more emphasis on Cathay's problems.
>>95877880Well it looks like the 2nd AJ might give us Yin-Yin who isn't in the total war game, right? So I'm hoping for some entirely new stuff.
>>95877875I am in love with these skeletons specifically and the ancient spirit swarms, the zombies I don't really care about but the new skeletons look too overdesigned, that's a problem with most of AoS new VC range.
>>95877891my favorite faildaughter
>>95877861Not every single setting needs to be grim dark all the time. Brets being actually chivalrous with some degrading pesantry is fine. It's funny because even the empire which a few secondary anons think is grim dark, if they have ever read the lore, know is actually pretty ok most the time assuming during moreslieb your village doesn't get turbofucked.
An entire generation got force fed grimdark and have forgotten what a dark fantasy means.
>>95877877Yeah the elites of 1 nation are better off than the rank and file of another's, shocking.
>>95877909Jade warriors aren't the Elite of Cathay ano,n that would be the Celestial Dragon Guard.
Jade Warriors are just the Rank and File
>>95877909Yeah the Empire is more grimdark because of the constant threat of being raped by Beastmen in your tiny village rather than actual day to day conditions being horrid.
>>95877892That's fair, and they're hard to get at a reasonable price, but there are a LOT of good options for skeletons and undead outside gw these days, I actually prefer oathmark skeletons with GW skulls on them over the 2008 skeletons looking at them side by side, very similar proportions but better arm joint, and more subdued spear tips which I appreciate.
>>95877880When the game started, they were very clean and utopian lore wise. Then they kept adding tidbits that helped flesh them out including flaws or major issues they still have or had in the past. In other words, CA has been working on breathing more life into them. Hopefully Gdubs too. I already like the dudes in the balloon.
>>958779096th edition was a mitake and I won't pretend it's not, fantasy is not supposed to be GRIM GRIM GRIM GRIM like 40k is.
It's still a BIT grim, mind, but 6th edition was tarded
>>95877892I quite like the aos skellies and don't find them too busy, although I can understand that their more heavy armour is maybe a bit too 'elite'-feeling for what is supposed to be a shambling horde. Love the look tho.
Dwarfs vs ogres. Deployed my irondrakes in the wrong place but otherwise going okay
>>95877927forgot pic, I think this is a really good option for skeletons
>>95877787No one would be offended if they brought back the army based on Northeners
Do you think Kislev will be out around December?
I'd like to gift someone an army for Christmas.
>>95877958Cam on Ogres some some fakkin goals (by punting dwarfs)
>>95877968Those look good but it's the 6/7th edition VC skellies for me.
>>95877976Who knows. I think it's possible that we may see them by the end of this year. GW has gone mad with the pace of releases over the past 6 months with Old World, there's a reason for that. The reason however we aren't sure of.
>>95877976I hope not. I'd much rather they go back over the existing armies and give them all a nice new plastic kit or two.
>>95877823I'll use one example to sort of highlight the missed potential of Cathay - the mandate of heaven.
The Dragon Emperor should be a distant figure guiding the empire, not really concerned with its daily operations. That responsibility should fall to his children/bureaucrats/generals who form factions and compete. The DE tacitly gives his approval to one faction, elevating them to the status of a ruling dynasty, which rules they lose the DE's favour, starting the cycle of competition over again.
For the period TOW is set, Cathay could be an a transitional period - like that of Song to the Yuan, or the Yuan to the Ming. This creates an interesting narrative and helps Cathay mirror the Three Emperors' ordeal in the Empire.
>Trench CrusadeNo.
>>95877812I don't mind more human factions, or more non-human factions. I just want interesting shit. Like, I'd love to see the Chorfs and hobgolbins come back too, but I wont hold my breathe since GW hate dwarfs and AoS siloing bullshit.
>>95877817There's no shortage of stuff to pull from, historically, but 95% of it makes Araby an untouchable landmine. Even as it is right now, Araby is borderline untouchable by modern GW.
>Their god is literally AllahIm sure that would have absolutely no real-world consequences for handling in the UK.
>>95877975I'd fucking love to see a proper halfing army. I doubt it'll ever happen, but I don't see any reason not to add some halfing stuff into the Empire roster if GW ever bothers fleshing out the whole Age of Three Emperors angle the TOW is fucking set inside of.
>>95878007I mean that does seem to be the case somewhat, the main issue is that the DE being present even if he's not paying attention means that Civil wars aren't likely to start because his kids fighting to much will make him pay attention and no one really wants that.
I just want the lantern. I guess I'm going to have to schlep into town next weekend to order from the warhammer store so there's no queue
Any good options for grave guard other than the new kit from GW? Don't care for it.
>>95878007>>95878031It's been noted, or quoted based on the TW game notes, that the siblings have started shit for plenty of petty reasons and Daddy did nothing including not waking up from his naps. Would be finding out what he DOES do when he takes any action.
>>95878062In the waiting room with the Preyton
I would guess she will get shown off in two weeks when all this Cathay stuff get released
>>95878062The Flavored daughter is currently indisposed
>>95878061Oathmark skeletons?
>>95878031Easy workaround, if you ask me. Just make the DE an absentee father figure. He doesn't really care what the kids are doing, so long as nobody is burning down the house. Civil war between competing factions? No problem, have at it. Accidentally crushing daddy dragon's last pack of cigarettes? Now you're in some real shit.
>>95878071It's fine to mention it offhandedly in the fluff, but I'd like to be more consequential. Have some properly defined and characterized factions/dynasties with their own cultures/philosophies, and ideally, their own rules/units on the tabletop.
>>95878109Those are skeleton warriors, not grave guard
>>95877989He killed a bunch of hammerers but we're still in the fight. Gyrocopters made it into their rear too
>>95877372So what's this book for? People are not able to arrange things for tournament play? Or are they so bored and out of imagination that they cannot invent scenarios?
Are they taking the AoS route and putting out a book every 6-12 months and change the rules?
>>95878133Miners showed up on turn 3. Probably too far away to be much help against the crushers
If you are not going to give them a magic standard or something like that, is it better to have archers in multiple smaller units or 1 big blob?
2 units of 10 sound more manageable than 1 of 20 to me but I haven't played yet
>>95878142The latter GW showed the contents a couple of weeks ago, and it mostly it's just new more "balanced" scenarios and some new optional rules
>>95878175So nothing much, just a flavourless scenario book they could just release a 4-6 pages PFD for.

Very weird that the article about the Cathay pre-order doesn't mention Miao Yang, is she going to be later or something?
>>95876011high, impossible and unlikely in that order
>>95878255Probably in a few weeks when the individual units are sold.
>>95877877>but comparing a Jade Warrior to a Man-at-Arms or a State Trooper Model and both those com across as much dirter and grubber than the Jade WarriorsThey are grubbier than jade warriors, which is why the better comparison is closer to knights of the realm on foot
>>95878289that seems weird
>>95876201Great work but you need some lettering/scribbles on the parchments. Looks like they are drying their white dippers atm.
>>95876478Seems like it'd be better as a AoI than a full faction, do hobgoblins have anything O&G doesn't?
>>95878453Sneaky gits is their only unique unit from the tabletop
>>95877087>be random human>indentured servant for life to some elven lady>It's basically being a normally peasant like back home, but without the threats of mutants, beastmen, or orcs>also the place doesn't reek like shit>but the elf guys keep giving you the evil eye and calling you a "keigh'mon"
Ended up conceding on turn 5. Just didn't have a way to put enough shots into the mournfang cavalry before he starting charging and overruning everything.
Irondrakes didn't get to shoot once :(
>>95877548One is the base army list and rules, the next one is the AoI book
>>95878115>Easy workaround, if you ask me. Just make the DE an absentee father figure. He doesn't really care what the kids are doing, so long as nobody is burning down the house. Civil war between competing factions? No problem, have at it. Accidentally crushing daddy dragon's last pack of cigarettes? Now you're in some real shit.Isn't that essentially how it is? I don't think I've seen anything about the DE himself being active, just present in the background while his children do everything
>>95878191>4 - 6 page pdfAnon you can see in the pic it's going to be like 50 pages
>>95878115>Have some properly defined and characterized factions/dynasties with their own cultures/philosophiesWith how incompetent and full of herself Yin Yin is, I can hope that she and her territory end up wearing a manchu coat of paint. Surely the sensitivity team won't object to the decadent qing being made into the buttmonkeys that make the rest of Cathay look good.
>Cathay batallion is only while supplies last
What is this Sinophobia.
I just want my plastic Chinese army guys to fight someone else's army guys.
>>95878545Is there a picture of Yin Yin?
I just preordered two Cathay boxes for AoS
>>95878453Hob Hounds, which are sorta Squig dog creatures
their Shamans can also cast Little Warrgh and Big Warrgh spells
>>95878571Considering how contemporary CoS looks like, I don't blame you.
So no armies of infamy in the first arcane journal? I guess max two sentinels then, but I do expect an army of infamy that increases your rare budget and allows you to take 3.
Also I do expect the max-powered sentinel (probably the warpstone one?) will be too expensive to fit two within 500pts, but I'm hoping the cheapest one will be sub <250. I'm guessing M6 WS6 S6 T6 for profile, with a decent armor save and a strength-increasing weapon at AP-2, so they may not be that cheap.
>>95878571>>95878596This, id rather play a chinese army than a californian half black CoS force

>>95878733She looks stupid.
>>95878733>>95878604get better taste in anime girl failures
>>95878759Poor girl forgot how to take dragon form.
>>95878788which is even funnier if she's the Dragon associated with Beast Magic, which has multiple spells about turning into things.
>>95878564GW have hurt the feelings of 1.4 billion chinese people and must apologize right now.
>>95878397You are right. Will be sorting out the decals shortly on the Stank and the crossbowmen soon.
>>95878804Are you saying that GW is lacist?
Can someone explain to me how movement trays with gaps between the minis are allowed? Don't they just needlessly make a block of units wider?
>>95878847those skinks etc. will be on old .20mm bases. Those movement bases will boost the effective base sizes to 25mm
>>95878846Making the only Chinese/asian faction ever represented in GW games a limited time release, being treated like second class citizens is racism and this is the angle we should push publicly to make the Cathay fomo box not a fomo box
>>95878846It's weird growing up, the stereotypical Chinese accent was turning the letter r into an l, so alcantarilla becomes alcantalalilla, but in the US it's reversed so it's not lala loopy but rara roopsy.
Bizarre.
>>95878847Those are spacer trays. They exist to make models that are based on the old (correct) base sizes rank up as if they were on the new (gay) base sizes. There's nothing needless or pointless about them, they serve a specific purpose.
>>95878847They are on smaller bases, either because the guy doesn't want to rebase or he wants to be able to play older editions of Fantasy and TOW with his models.
Cooked up a base recipie I like and that's easy to do for my VC, I suppose it's someplace unpleasent in the dark lands or chaos wastes or something like that.
>>95878545>hope that she and her territory end up wearing a manchu coat of paintIt would be kinda neat if each dragon child/faction was a riff on a different Chinese Dynasty. I think there are five main children and four secondaries that basically don't have any information on them. Even if you take just the five main ones, that's enough to hit most of the well-known dynasties.
>>95879193>boomer dragon child that refuses to advance past the warring states period>zoomer dragon child that fucks up line formation for their fusiliers>dragon child that has to go fast so everyone must be on horses
>>95879223What is Yin Yin's fighting style?
Should I get 1 of the old ogre box and 1 of the new box or just 1 of the new box?
How long untill the arcane journal gets leaked
>>95879286Did the WE or beastmen ones get leaked?
>>95879289Yea they got shown before they actually came out i consider rhat leaked.
>>95879286>>95879297In that case, probably when the NDA gets lifted so Next Saturday would be my guess.
>>95879289Only like the evening before the NDA was lifting anyway
This is really the big test to see if we can recover WHFB and destroy AOS. If Cathay sells really well no way GW sticks with AOS.
>>95879322Yup, that's why I'm getting two of everything.
>>95879285What boxes are you talking about?
>>95879332Spearhead or whatever the box is called in AOS
>>95879331Two might not be enough. Every purchase of the battalion is a direct punch in the face to AOS. I would say if you miss out on the big box you should buy at least three of everything else. And multiple copies o the Arcane Journal too, we can't have them thinking we're buying models for AOS.
>>95879322>This is really the big test to see if we can recover WHFB and destroy AOS. If Cathay sells really well no way GW sticks with AOS.While I don't like AoS, I would feel bad for those that do enjoy it. Because if that scenario did happen then we're basically replicating End Times, but for AoS players which puts a bad taste in my mouth.
That would all be void if AoS is doing poorly which we'll have to see in the next earnings report.
>>95879283Getting othe people to do it for her. Unless it's undead, she can just shine a light and be rid of them.
Anyone have Ancient China osprey books? I kinda wanna use the livery of western chu because muh cool history dude but I don't actually know what it looks like
>>95879358We have to slaughter them dude. We have to literally kill every AOS player and fan.
>check thread for leaks of the matched play book
>it's still just nomodels crying about AoS
>Battalion Box is normal price.
>Longma hero is $62.50
>Gatemaster is $52
>Sentinel is $127.50
>Balloon is $160
Crazy price on the balloon considering it's probably a war wagon equivalent or less.
>>95879383>>Balloon is $160Excuse me what the fuck?
>>95879383Does GW still claim its a model maker company and not a games company? I remember at one time a good decade or so ago they claimed the majority of their sales went to people who never played a single game.
The balloon price appears to be in line with that idea.
>>95876517Kelpie, then?
A dullahan hero, perhaps? Those were considered to be fae, before modern fantasy switched them to undead.
Beste Glatis, if we're talking about Arthurian Myth.
The Tarasque could be a good fit too, it's a french myth, and at some point the beast is pacified by the kindness of a young girl. Could be a monster you can only control if you have a caster lady around.
>This box will be available while stocks last. Rules for all of the units above can be found in the Arcane Journal: Armies of Grand Cathay book.
What?
>>95879368I get my models on Monday thoughever.
I'm very excited :)
>>95879393Kelpies are incredibly evil.
>>95879391Balloon price is in line with everything else because they own a monopoly on tabletop games.
If I had to guess most of their sales nowadays come from compfags
>>95879393A green knight dullahan could be cool.
>>95879387Probably just the size of it but yeah damn.
>Even when gathered in their torrid encampments the Beastmen can be seen brawling, shouting, drinking, filling their hairy bellies with raw flesh, and engaging in even worse acts of depravity and cruelty, for they are vital and virile creatures that are never truly still.
>virile
Looks like rape is back on the menu, boys.
>>95879322I donโt want that to happen. Mainly because I think we are better off as consumers in a specialist game vs a mainline game.
>>95879383>Sentinel is $127.50>Balloon is $160I guess those are what we would expect, but still.
Don't care too much about the battalion box but I love the Sentinel and lantern balloon. Seeing those prices I might just have to get 1 of them instead of both.
>>95879358I never felt like GW was taking it seriously.
>Sigmarines. The lore and setting is abysmal and whimsical.
They keep reusing major characters from Fantasy, to this date, when they should be trying harder to get people to care about anything else.
Many of the armies are incomplete or relying on Fantasy models still.
Many players don't feel secure in it because many models and and armies got removed suddenly.
There's some good sides to it. Namely bouncing off some gameplay ideas (Spear Head, Warcry, gameplay consolidation, etc.) except almost no one plays it. I do know plenty of people who buy AoS models but they only do so for proxying or just cool factor and nothing else, not even caring about lore or gameplay.
>>95879420Total war niggers will never understand that.
Arguably the best system in current gw is necromunda, less attention is better.
>>95879383those prices better be in Australian dollarydoos because what the fuck
>>95879442Bloodbowl, but taste factors heavily into the niche games.

>>95879449no that's in real freedumb dollars
>>95879322I know people like to sling shit across both systems but why wouldn't gw just support both. They're a different beast now than they were in 2015.

>>95879449Aussie here,
Suspect the balloon is 210 AUD.

Kragnos is 300 aud which is equivalent to a week of rent pre covid
>>95879346Don't know much about ogers but I've hear a lot of people say that the cannon guys are not great and the ironguts are the better option
That's a lot of gnoblars on the second box tho. Idk how useful those are.
Maybe get the first one and see if theres enough buts to turn the cannon guys into normal ones
Getting both of them should make for a pretty sizeable army
>>95879440>I never felt like GW was taking it seriously. It seems like they really tried to early on but progressively put less effort into it. I agree with everything you've said, i'm just wondering if it really is making money for them. And yes they'll have red heart tattoos.
>>95879481I'm Aussie too, and I'm coping, seething and possibly malding. I estimated based on looking at other models it was gonna be maybe 160, similar to iirc gyros and some dragons. Why on earth is Kragnos 300, what the fuck. The model should come with a complementary blowjob whenever you visit a store for that much.
>>95879505not sure what your red heart tattoo is about, likely some abysmal fetish but I'll pretend I don't see it and support your army of warrior brides
>>95879505>can't enjoy cute girls without making it some weird race shitBurgers were a mistake.
>>95879418They just can't mention it by name like the Fimir
Two battalions should be a really good base for an army right?
>>95877689Terracota would have been fine if it was elite troops or something. Their base warriors already look way too magical. Something more down-to-the-earth with some magic on the side would have been nicer.
>>95879383Hope those prices are just inflated.
I'll wait on a european source. Theres no way they can be that expensive.
>>95879391GW predominately makes their money off of model sales yes. Do you you think the margins on rules books are big enough to actually build a company off of?
>>95879524Depends on the battalion. Some have pretty meh units, like the Empire battalion.
Or units you can't take 2 off based of the points restrictions, like the Empire battalion.
>>95879440I think the population issue is more a local community thing. One store I frequent basically has nothing but AoS, a different has nothing but Kill Team and so on.
I do agree with the criticism of AoSโs lore largely though. It feels like they increased the scale and stakes with a magnifying glass, not by actually making things bigger.
>>95879539Sorry I meant the Cathay one
>>95877958Never liked that ogre cavalry, not only the mounts look silly, but they were also busted back then to sell plastic.
>>95879449Definitely Aussie, too expensive in comparison to the other models being sold for TOW
>>9587954320 knights 60 infantry and 4 cannons is probably more than you'll need on all counts.
>>95879552Sorry bro, that's cheap for dollarydoos
>>95879543You might have more artillery than you need, but given that the battalion is basically all their units aside from the big ones and characters, you're going to by buying what's in that box twice over one way or another.
>>95879553>>95879566I know most places play with rule of 3 from what Iโve read but the cannon kit has 2 variants right?
>>95879559Cheap in comparison to AoS or 40k maybe but, 160 USD is double the price of most large monsters and it would be the second most expensive model for TOW aside from the bone grinder giant and almost as much as the battalion on its own.
>>95879566What list are you fielding 20 jade horsemen in?
I canโt wait to buy all the half opened battalion boxes in 3 months
>>95879583Yeah you can build it as a cannon or rocket artillery according to the article. Whether or not you'll be able to fit 4 artillery pieces in the regular army list is up in the air tho
How do I play Warhammer TOW?
>>95879586What else are you going to be putting in your list? Unless the second wave brings with it just as many units you're going to be severely limited.
>>95879586Ah yes, Iโll just do the alternative of bringing 3 balloons instead.
>>95879603Sentinels and balloons are pretty much destined to be good by TOW's ruleset. The lord on large flying steed is also likely to be pretty good. As soon as Miao Ying is available you're going to slot her in.
>>95879584>>95879559In fact if you run the dollarydoos to USD conversion you get a little under $104 which is in line with the bone dragon which is the one other entirely new big model
>>95879635It's USD. The balloon is very large.
>>95879635Buddy Australia always gets a 20% round up with conversions. Those are US prices
>>95879634Sentinels sure, but the Ballon doesn't follow. Sure it's a flying warmachine but I doubt it moves fast or has good melee. A flying firing platform with a couple of infatry missile weapons isn't guaranteed to be a must-take given the current state of the game. Also even then I would think the Sentinel and balloon occupy the rare slot and the magistrate might be considered an upgrade for the balloon model like the empire engineer in the stank.
>>95879653Yeah Iโm not sure how much copium that dudes on. Maybe he doesnโt want to face the fact itโll cost him an entire months worth of a paycheck.
>>95879640Is it larger then the bone dragon? It doesn't seem like it.
>>95879663I'm not going to be buying cathay, it isn't my cup of tea. It's a bit silly to take something someone says at 4chan with nothing to back it up at face value anon.
>>95879662>He sees only the individual merit of the tool, not the whole.Foolish junior, your eyes will never see mount Thai, dare you forget the manner the illustrious jade were portrayed in the immortal empires of war?
>>95879679There's 2 of us telling you that shit is too cheap for Australian prices.
Being stubborn on a topic you "don't care about" is narcissistic and retarded. Don't like being told no then fuck off.
>>95879662I think terracotta sentinels might be special with jade/warpstone ones in rare. We might also get a full army list in this AJ just not with all the units released yet. GW has shown more willingness to have units that exist without models in TOW than in their other games. I think the balloon will be reasonably fast, reasonably tough and its bombs will be good, which is why I default think it'll be a good unit.
Unfortunately I doubt the magistrate or gate keepers will be much good outside of a BSB. GW hasn't really been willing to give support abilities enough oomph in TOW either.
Hopefully the lantern isn't too wallet breaking downunder, though if it is my LGS will be happy I guess. was planning on grabbing 2 boxes, a lantern and a gate master and miao yang but with one of those being not available and one possibly being absurdly expensive is putting a change to my plans.
I'd also say, it's very possible the Celestial Dragon Guard are just a points upgrade to the jade soldiers.
>>95879536Oh obviously not, but GW said those people only made dioramas or such. Never played a game as in they never intended to even try playing a game with the models.
>>95879690>There's 2 of us telling you that shit is too cheap for Australian prices. It's would $20 cheaper than a comparable model. Nevermind the fact that it not being AUS doesn't mean it's american, CAD could also be an option, nevermind the fact that we have no reason to be sure this isn't just somebody saying random numbers in the first place. Your argument is purely an assertion with no basis.
>>95879505I stopped going to a mordheim group because the organizer started bringing an all female marienburg warband of gooner coded 3d prints
>>95879744Oh people definitely buy models but don't play either never ever or just stopped but still buy models. My FLGS' oldest fag claims to haveone of the top 5 eldar collections in size in the world and they continue to buy eldar to back up that fact. They don't play anymore due to arthritis and vertigo and not wishing to learn new editions.
My zombie supplies are supposed to deliver tommorow. I think this should be enough fuel for 80 odd zombies, + lots of bits for the bits box. Also black knights.
>>95879760Link to the prints?
>>95879744A lot of people like to collect armies according to the rules of the game but never actually play the games. I'm almost like that, I probably play 2-3 times a year.
>>95879753Iโm starting to think moot had the right idea
>>95879760Sounds based. I too want to make an all female hentai girl warband and essentially recreate the female lesser enemies tag on Pixiv om the tabletop.
>>95879670>Is it larger then the bone dragon?Yeah, it's Monolith tier.
>>95876694>Describe in your own words how you imagine it lands and then we can talk. They just don't land ever, boarding and unboarding is like an aerial aerobatic stunt. The hard part is the inf flight eagle swap.
>>95877372>Considering the Matchplay book is also getting released next weekDon't forget you cannot use this book with legacy armies because fuck youยฉยฎโข
Got these threads suck ass, relitigating the same 3 autistic arguments over and over and over with like 2 model posts a thread.
>>95879895>more discussion with a major news drop>some lore>some more building>even one anon showing a game.Seems active for the context.
How viable is VC with like 5 necromancers and a corpse cart just buffing the fuck out of resing zombies and skeletons, but no mortis engine because they're stupid
>>95879895It's summer, the biggest release since ogres is about to happen, and there's not much else going on. What else can secondaries do?
As for me, I've gotten a few more glade guards done. 6 down and I'll get 6 more before being done, I think 12 glade guard is plenty fine for a squad.
>>95879895I've got nothing to post right now, but I'll be working on 12 chaos warriors with halberds from all the way back in 1997 this weekend! Or I'll be stupid and use the one mutation sprue I have to make 5 forsaken! We'll see.
How legit are these prices?
>>95880029Honestly sounds about legit but until we see it I wouldn't sell the (rat breeding) farm on it yet.
Bought some skaven off ebay and they were hot glued to their movement tray. Just baffled as to why. Maybe the seller thought it would help secure them for shipping? They were cheap so I'm not complaining, but I thought it was very strange.
>>95876125I thought some of the shit you were doing looked a bit too silly for my taste, including that shield, but it looks really nice painted up.
>>95877326Not for Elves. The downside of elves is you have to live forever watching the world get shittier and shittier know everything is fucked and there is no hope.
>>95880029Oh man, I might just have to try and get a box or two from a discounter
>>95880064I just got some pre-assembled goblins today. The previous owner so kindly glued everything together, but didn't fucking bother with ANY of the mouldlines or sprue where they snipped it.
Going to have to put them in the fridge and hope snapping their arms to reach the hard spots will go well.
Any suggestions for starting tomb kings?
Is the starter set worth getting?
>>95877689Yeah I'd agree these are the most soulful of the range.
>>95880123>Any suggestions for starting tomb kings? The starter set
>Is the starter set worth getting?Yes it's a great deal and if it's your first army for TOW especially because you get the full size rulebook.
>>95877975>>95878029I doubt we'll ever see them. I don't Total War has even bother touching them despite DLC milking everything they can.

are venerable ushabti worth it? +1 WS (4->5), +1 S (4->5), -1 M (5->4) and +2 magic res for an extra 7 points a model?
OH MY GOD
Age of Sigmar FANATICS have disguised themselves as Houthi terrorists and seized all shipments of Cathayan models heading to the US under gunpoint
>>95880287+1 WS is great
I think their weapons are +2S, so S7 is a little overkill unless they're fighting T5 which is some chariots or mounted lords
-1 M is rough

it's weird how often the AoS people on this board talk about TOW. They seem to be cross-posting a lot. I don't like it! They stayed in their thread for years and only now they come bother us? Suspicious! Go back!

>>95880741Yes, bringing a level 4 to a 1000 point game is generally considered poor form.
>>95880741Yes this seems like a powergamey type list
>>95880812Ah okay. I've never used wizards before, I just know that people usually only take level 4s. I can drop him to 3 and maybe just buy another magic item or something.
Did you praise the Dragon Emperor today ?
Is the Chaos Lord/Sorcerer on Manticore a good pickup for WoC? I'm going to be slowly building an army for them and I'm not sure what characters are good on what mount options. I'm generally gonna go with rule of cool for purchasing the actual units for the army but I feel like with the way you can set up your characters I'll need to put more thought into who I want on what.
>>95880879It's a chaos characters on a monster. It's not going to be as strong as a dragon, but it'll do the job.
>>95880741>No skeletonsHow radical.

Cathay is really hitting the ground running without any crossbowmen?

>>95881138Are those tuffs as shiny as the camera makes them look? Looks like holiday decorations or something. I would hit those with some kind of matte sealant to take the shine off.

>>95880029Thereโs no way the lantern is almost as expensive as the battalion

>>95881327If you use the tallest option for the stand (looks like it gets 2 options for the stand) then the Sentinels head is about level with the gunners on the lantern. The balloon itself looks like its almost the size of the sentinel as well so the entire model is probably double the size of the sentinel. purely in terms of height it's probably taller than a Warhound Titan
It also comes with a ton of heroโs and bits.
Side note I hate the separate horse rider

>>95881954Now that would be cool. I can imagine some night scenario during a festival or something.
>>95881331I'm not looking forward to seeing more flying units in the game. That's a terrible thing, really. Gyrocopters are oppressive and impossible to actually deal with aa chaos unless you make a sorcerer cast magic missiles at them (and skirmishing marauders will just get shot to death immediately, so they're not a solution either), I can only imagine how annoying those stupid lanterns are going to be.
Overall, I'm not very interested in this Cathay nonsense. It's fucked that they added a new army before bringing back all the real ones. Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I don't think the anons creaming themselves over this will actually a) paint the models, b) play a game, and c) stick around and contribute to the threads. GW is going about this all wrong.
>>95882424it is pretty funny how the rank and file nature of the game completely falls apart when anything moves faster than a brisk walk
>>95882424>real armiesCathay is a real army. More than the other dead weights.
>>95882433It's more about how ranked up units simply cannot catch a flying unit. Gyrocopters can just repeatedly fly over & behind a unit if said unit keeps reforming to face it. Fly (9) and swiftstride is also pretty disgusting, don't get me wrong, but lots of things move that fast and aren't as annoying to play against. Skirmishers (and especially skirmishers who happen to fly, which are the real scourge of the meta right now, see the pegstar and also gyros) can turn on a dime and charge them, as I explained, but they're likely to just get exploded before they do anything.
>>95882424>GW is going about this all wrong.it's a move to sell a fuckton on the chinese market and getting olf fuckers to buy something they don't already have, also GW never cared too much about rules, they are always a vehicle to sell models, nothing more
>>95882424>Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I don't think the anons creaming themselves over this will actually a) paint the models, b) play a game, and c) stick around and contribute to the threadsOf course they won't. >>95883434halberds aren't unbalanced, they give strength and armor penetration at the cost of armour, but don't give as much strength as great weapons because they don't affect initiative.
what do you want halberds to do?
>>95883441He wants his (I'm assuming) shit empire infantry to get to use shield and polearm like the shitty Bret peasants, whose magical farming sticks give them the best of both worlds
>>95883448they don't get the best of both worlds, they have to choose whether to use them as spears or as halberds, and in any case they lose armourbane or the initiative bonus of normal halberds and normal spears.
I kind of want to kitbash some bretonian/empire knights into blood knights with individual heraldry as von carstien blood knights, the lower level thralls of a count formed up into a unit
>>95883448Bretonnian farmers train for decades with their peasant polearms.
>>95883410The last 11 games I've played and posted about have been at 2000 points. I never said anything about getting dogres, I actually really dislike them and I don't want them in my collection. My meta is not flying units, my point is that I find them annoying to deal with. I certainly don't hate them, but I do dislike the effect that flying has on the game. I think Steed of Shadows (and Travel Mystical Pathways, for that matter. TMP is actually way worse.) shouldn't be in the game, for example. It's too centralizing, it makes or breaks the army, it lets you ignore terrain, other units and encourages you to deploy like a bitch, and, even if it's really good and nice to have, I don't like it. Flying units can also break out of a complete encirclement. Even if you play well and charge a unit in both its front and its rear, it won't matter. It makes sense, but it's not fun.
If anons disagree with me about Cathay, then that's another matter. But my opinion on flying units is something I'll stand by. Also, what do you mean by a fresh screenshot? Do you want more pictures I've never posted before? Here's one that shows what I mean by flying units being annoying, those screamers just kept flying over my knights for the whole game. It's thematic, and it makes sense. It's what a screamer of tzeentch would do, but it's not very fun when it happens to you. Again, I'm not complaining. I get it, chaos doesn't have shooting, so flying units are a bit of a counter. That's fine, my problem is more about what flying does in a vacuum rather than against my army specifically. I should have been more clear about that.
Game Post
Nuln vs VC (1,5k , battle line)
It was my opponent's 3-4 game of OW, so it was mostly learning exp, but i may say "full contact"
>>95878733>>95878788What a useless god- I mean dragon.
>>95883494I got you confused with the khorne maruader anon then. Still the amount of whining you are throwing down about mechanics that have been in the game since forever (albeit dragonlords and eq in TOW really spot lights it) but has never really been that breaking. Harpies and carrion, flying monsters, I remember when Pegasus knights came, never fully broke the game moreso than chaos warshrines or certain Heros did. Because as you noted with gyros, generally flying shit breaks easy and is lighter than ground based stuff. Like 1 cannon can probbaly dirt nap the new Balloon over 2 turns.
As for moving through stuff ethereal has been less prominent but I have numerous memories of my friends high elves going ethereal due to some magic and running through me, or chaos moving my units, or the warshrine doing some weird shit. Oh and slann flying ethereally into the centre to drop a purple sun into my beastmen line. Etc. Flying (10) spell is dumb tho I agree should be flying (movement)
I'm just saying for flying to cause this much heartburn it's probbaly duento your army limitations. Dwarfs never have much issue taking my jabber or cocktrice or harpies down despite me usually getting a good position or 1 good round of fighting. The baloon could be more annoying in that it's going to sit back instead of fly towards kill zones, but until we see stats we don't know if its going to have the speed or toughness or points to do anything your described or just hover menacingly before artillery or a dragon pops it.
In fact, flaming surely just be a rule?
>>95883494I would say if the Cathay balloon works like a fucking balloon, it should be slow and mostly just support, and not a bullshit spam thing like gyros or Pegasus knights (but don't worry Longma knights next release)
>>95883485> While you were not!German wife swapping, I was plowing my fields > While you were voting for burghermeister I was studied the plowshareAnd now that the Beastman are at the gate you dare come to me for help????
>>95882533Itโs getting its last dlc
>>95883599It looks like the model itself mostly has small arms too. Based on how it looks my guess would be it has a few modest shooting attacks, but it's main function is to "scout" and provide some bonus to arty units
>>95883551I'll admit, I was being a bit hyperbolic about flying units being "impossible" to deal with. There are ways, I know, and they're by no means the devil incarnate or anything like that... I just don't like 'em! I should have been more clear about that.
>Pegasus knights came, never fully broke the game moreso than chaos warshrines or certain Heros didI can't speak about the 8th ed meta, but really? Warshrines? My cursory reading of the 8th ed chaos army book did not indicate that they'd be anywhere near meta. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'd just really like you to elaborate. I thought they just made your lords and heroes roll on the eye of the gods table more often. On the other hand, I have heard many accounts of the flying circus/pegstar demolishing the game back in 6th. It's also uber-meta right now. When you combine flying with skirmishing, bad things happen!
>As for moving through stuff ethereal has been less prominentI think you're thinking of Walk Between Worlds. Travel Mystical Pathways is the one that lets you teleport a unit anywhere within 12". It's arguably better then Steed of Shadows depending on how you use it, but it has the same effects on the game. Ignoring terrain and other units, etc etc. The problem with Steed of Shadows giving a unit Fly (12) is that you're effectively getting triple the amount of movement you normally would. That's three turns worth of movement and you get to fly! What chaos army wouldn't want that? You're essentially forced to always bring a level 4 daemonologist to every game because the other lores just can't compete with that.
>flying to cause this much heartburn it's probbaly duento your army limitationsI really don't think so. Flying units could do what I've described to any army, even one with a lot of shooting. The thing with flying is that it allows you to bypass a lot of restrictions that prevent certain kinds of fuckery during the movement phase.
>>95883540Yin yin is the baby of the family, right?

do we have any idea which models have a similar height?
>>95883731>6th ed Pegasus busNow I've played since 4th more often began in 5th, so I never experienced this but fwiw I played dark elves as my first army (with a few beastmen allies which grew into my beastmen) so by 6th my army was simply as OP and I don't think I ever fought a flying circus but considering I had rakarth (beastmaster by 6th) I probably wouldn't have cared. 6th ed dark elves were insane...
>warshrinesIt wasn't just the boost. It was the 3++ tzeetnch shit while being a massive fire magnet and good on the charge, all for cheap price. It was slow for a chariot but WoC was never flying across the board. Just stating even WoC have had retarded pieces that sat back and never died all game yet it wasn't the end all. Artillery spotting is at least less gay than helping EotG pop off every fucking time.
>ethereal spellTo be clearer I was speaking of old school high magic to which having immrik or sword masters go ethereal was for most races a get fucked spell. Hell or old apotheosis....imagine models returning....
>steed of shadowsYeahno flying spell should allow more than double movement imho, and be a bitch to cast.
>flying would smack any army.Again gunlines bret and elves are less suseptible. Also ambushing can allievate it as your one of your units is off the board. Flying is mentally annoying but should infantry no longer break so easily to monsters the reality is you'll have to be ready to take a charge and counter charge your turn and that should beat most flyers. Dragon lords are breaking things because they can reliably kill 5 to 10 infantry a turn and then fly away in their turn or break stuff in 2 turns. If that stops, flying becomes once again more mental. Plus as I said I think the baloon will be slow and not able to do this but we will see.
>>95883767>orders 100 boxesI hear about LGSs doing this often, but isn't that a terrible idea if they actually got 100? Unless they're in a high population density area there's no way they're going to sell out. Having 100 warhammer players spend out through all of the different game systems seems reasonable, 100 local TOW players seems like a stretch and 100 people wanting to get into cathay, or even enough players wanting to buy multiple seems absolutely crazy.
>>95883813Some of the bigger Knight or titan models?

the spirit dragon was slain before the others were even born
then there's the storm dragon, who's the eldest alive
then there's the jade dragon, the older out of the sons
we don't know the relative ages of the fire, iron and sea dragons, but I'm going to assume the iron dragon is the youngest of the 3 because he's the moon empress's favourite, and the other 2 have misbegotten middle child vibes
the light dragon is "one of the younger" children, so someone must be even younger
the shadow dragon and the dragon who has no wind assigned (so he must be chaos, obviously) would be the 7th and 9th respectively to me
why is the shadow dragon not mommy's favourite? dunno, but he sounds like he left cathay too (bets are he's playing rebel in nippon and trained ninjas)
making the chaos dragon the absolute youngest one would also explain to me why the second youngest, and kindest, could leave cathay, to go search for her little brother up in the north wastes, past kislev.
>>95883923This faction bores me the more and more that I read it.
Hearing some more rumors about cathay. To compensate for the limited depth of the range all cathayan infantry models will have "cloud stepping" which lets them behave as Fly (9) skirmishers on their own turn, to represent their powerful wuxia abilities.
>>95884014>limited depth of the rangethey've got cavalry, infantry, monsters, artillery and wizards.
the only thing missing are skirmishers and massed guns/bows.
>>95884037(Which is weird because they're a gunline faction in Total War)
>>95883823>sat back and never died all game yet it wasn't the end all. Artillery spotting is at least less gay than helping EotG pop off every fucking time.My concern about the balloon is not that it's just going to sit there doing nothing. My concern is that, like all other flying units in TOW, it's going to be flying too fast! When a unit flies, it can ignore the leadership test required to march when within 8" of an enemy unit. That means it can very reliably fly right past whatever is threatening it, forcing that unit to either ignore it and go find something else to kill, or waste a turn reforming, only for the flying unit to repeat what it just did and fly right on over it again. That's what gyrocopters (while having a 4+ T5 W3 statline btw) do, they just keep flitting back and forth over your units. Again, that's fine. Thematic, even. But it's really annoying! Even if you had an army with a lot of shooting, what are you gonna do about that, just keep reforming and firing with the to hit penalty that come from doing that? Also, anything with a Fly above 5 just cannot get charged by M4 infantry, mathematically. Think about it! And has there been a single flying unit in TOW below Fly (8)? The only thing I can think of that even gives Fly (8) is the magic carpet. So, with most cavalry being M7... cavalry units don't get to charge fliers either! Let's take the example of the pegasus knights. They have Fly(10) and swiftstride, so their declarable charge distance is 19" vs. the 16" declarable charge distance that M7 cavalry units have. And no, you can't just shoot them down, because they have heavy armour, shields, barding and a 6+ ward save. They're even skirmishers, so they can charge backwards!
I resent the notion that talking about flying units in a bad light is just chaos whining. Flying units are a problem that affects every army, not just chaos.
I've just noticed that the Wood Elf and Beastmen AJ are set in 2278IC, 2 years after the Bretonnian and Tomb Kings AJ.
>>95884239Yeah we already established that the old world is doing a Horus heresy where the timelines all over the place.
>>95884137>cant get shotby guns if they are forced to reform often, but most the time hitting on 5s or 6s (elfs 4-5 of better) due to move and over half range wounding on 5-6 will whittle it down. then ofc unless the rumors are true, poison bow blocks can probably 1 round it the same as any monster. and yes, pegusai do get shot to shit by the poison bow spam the same as anything really. Also gunpowder armies tend to have access to cannons which again, shouldn't have much trouble hitting the baloon. I think nuln even if empire is weak shouldnt have trouble tagging the baloon. Elves will probably be fine as well. orcs have gobbo archer spam, TK have always hit on 5 and poison, bret has a hsitton of archers and their aforementioned flying cav, beastmen... well have shit for shooting nayways same with chaos. theres always RRR to equip and pitch damage. Basically, im saying if gyros havent been unstoppable, one floating baloon shouldnt either. But if they are somehow cheap i can see it being a problem.
>-cant be chargeddo you think the flying baloon is going to get swiftstride? do you think a chaos knight is going to be unable to catch the baloon on open ground? this is assuming its somehow above speed 7 which would be pretty crazy. it also will likely have cumbersome on its guns, so its not contributing if its moving making it a 250pt paperweight. As for other infnatry examples, generally flyers and skirms cant be charged by infantry due to speed but whop knows, maybe the matched play scnearios force them to commit or you use magic terrain or something etc. I dont think flyers are "that" bad and I dont think this baloon will be that bad but we dont really know what its stats are quite yet.
Both are WIPs which skin colour do you prefer?

>>95876599that's not really the same. greenskins fight each other and anybody else, but they HATE hobgoblins. O&G allying with hobs would be like wood elves allying with beastmen.
>>95883599doesn't it have mines? that would imply it wants to be floating over infantry directly unless it leaves a terrain piece on use which could be fun
>>95884388Right has a bit more brighter red.
Personally, go with both, paint your unit 50/50, or even got with 3, 4 different sets, it'll give out more the impression of unruly mob than a 'united' unit.
