How about this bad boy?
It's familiar: Everyone knows the setting expectations of James Bond. Im pretty sure some copies are in the sharethread.

I think she'd prefer something more fantastical, either classic fantasy or fantasy sci fi

There really isn't any. One-on-one play is about a single character's adventure and is very story-forward. Classic play, especially the modern reconstruction of it that gets bandied about with the name OSR focuses heavily on group play and dungeon crawling.

desu, offer it anyway. Confident Superspy stuff is easier to improv (that is how non RPG people see it) than 1000 year old elf druid.

You can try
Duo Adventure: Princess of the Shining Sun and Prince of the Brilliant Moon
Gamebook for two in the Sword World 2.5 setting and ruleset
google drive -> /file/d/1Fyx8AQbwBgs9PpYJwc6TEtolAjOU9e6H

From the book:
>Duo Adventure assumes that there are two players, but it can be played alone or by three or more players.
>With 1-2 players, you can use the Simplified Ruleset (see p. 101) included in this book, with no other books required.
Also from the book
>About the Game Master (GM)
>In a typical TRPG session, a Game Master (GM) manages the game. This is also true of Sword World 2.5 (see CR I, p. 15, 351). However, this book was designed to be played without a GM, and it assumes that one is not present.

Introduction
>Greetings! Welcome to the world of adventure.
>This is a ‘game book’ style adventure playable with the Sword World 2.5 system.
>The story takes place in the Randor region, in the central part of the Alframe continent, where small nations compete and conflicts persist. The theme of this adventure is a struggle for succession in one such country.
>Players take on the role of an heir or someone who supports them. They must strive to gather support from the people and earn their trust, settle who should rightfully claim the throne, unite their country, and weave a bright future.

You can just play WWN by adopting the mechanics from scarlet heroes.

The fray die and the hit point conversion make any d20 system run as a a duet (or solo)

The caveat however, is these mechanics make the character extremely heroic. If you don’t want this, you need to tinker. Maybe leave the fray die out but keep the HD->HP conversion and damage scaling.

The introductory OSE modules are nicely laid out for the GM and would be good fodder for learning. Hole in the Oak and Incandescent Grottos

If it were me, I’d just use the Keep on the Borderlands/B2 but that could be too much scope for someone who is unfamiliar with RPGs

Scarlet Heroes handles delving well, and can teach OSR play style (resource tracking and management, time keeping, player agency forward over big plots). But yes as it is a duet/solo engine, even though it chews up old school content well, your characters are very heroic and have to be exceedingly stupid to get themselves killed. However the ref can always tinker with the system to make it more lethal as well.

I would say SH might be better than WWN for duet simply because the red tide setting is baked in and you can hit the ground running instead of having to roll up a world from scratch. However of course that’s half the appeal of this hobby so you could also use them in conjunction with one another

I don't recommend you use the system I've been using, since it's narrative and has some narrative-specific crunch to it, but I can recommend a technique from my solo game with my GF (who is a seasoned RPG vet, and this is something we keep to text chat as a downtime activity). I'm running a shonen anime bullshit game for her.

Flashbacks and Reason-for-Stuff montages.
They add meat to a solo game and help fill the hole that other party members leave, without you being the only one running all the NPCs.

If you're running the kind of game where it can be done, try this:

>Her character runs into a problem
>Have a flashback about her dealing with or being told about something similar, involving one or more NPCs.
>Cut back to the present, with a bonus to the roll

>Run into an enemy
>If she's losing, have her do a montage or monologue (internal or external) about who or what she's fighting for, why she can't lose, why the enemy's philosophy of fighting is wrong
>Go back into the fight with a mechanical second wind of some kind.

It helps you run a strong protagonist without them just immediately oneshotting everything if their mechanical ability is bolstered by roleplaying at stuff. Flashbacks and monologues and such help add some RP meat, since there's only one player there's never gonna be direct arguing about what "the plan" should be etc.

Anything will if your gf's keen and you know what you're doing. I introduced my current gf to rpgs with 3.5e and the one before her with Rogue Trader. Both had a great time and got well into gaming.

The One Ring 2E with the Strider Mode supplement. The new elf realm sourcebook also added alternative option for especially powerful elf characters but I haven't read it yet.

Stellar Knights (though the actual duet rules aren't translated, the same works just fine in its standard or eclipsed formats). It's more freeform roleplay into a boardgamey/puzzle combat climax; but that may work well for you. It's very light on rules, so it'd be easy to get into.

Oh hey I translated that. I do recommend it, though its a gamebook w/ premade characters, I think its a good experience overall; and a simplified version of the Sword World 2 rules

just pick something that sounds fun to you both and get after it. if you can't decide, play scarlet heroes and use [insert a module here].

There is a retroclone of the James Bond RPG named Classified, and it is pretty easy to flavor as sci-fi since it is set in more ambiguous modern setting instead of Cold War. It also works the best with a GM and one player.

Have you considered playing Ironsworn? It's a game that's open to a lot of interpretation, and can even be played alone using its elaborate oracle tables.
