Buddy, Faerun is the kind of place where some sort of a magic cataclysm happens once or twice a generation. Relying on magical gimmicks for political power is simply stupid.

>OP complains about D&D, then gets butthurt that other people complain about D&D.

The D&D fandom is the most retarded one on this board, and that's saying something when Pathfinder and Warhammer 40k exist.

This is basically every D&D setting that's not Dark Sun, and modern WotC won't touch that one with a 20 mile long rod because it's too intense for the modern audience.

Dark Sun was never really a good fit for D&D anyway. It's just like how people keep making shit like cyberpunk settings or lovecraftian style horror for D&D and having to reinvent almost everything instead of just using a different system.

Fair argument. It's still the only official D&D setting that didn't suck total donkey cock though.

Up until WotC decided to marvelize it, part of the point of Faerun is that it doesn't have huge ridiculous events/cataclysms.
Even the Bhaalspawn crisis of the BG trilogy was a regional event, where most people outside of Amn/BG probably just heard there was crazy people saying they're all the god of death. And people in Waterdeep or the Heartlands probably were more concerned about the trade disruptions and had no idea about the other bullshit.

But between every module being about the end of days, and spellplague + 2nd sundering, it seems that ship has long since sailed.

the harpers will just murder you, your whole family. all your friends and anyone you ever spoke to just to make sure you cannot 'destabilise' their 'balance' AKA 'the harpers not being in charge anymore'. But remember, genocide is A-OK when harper's do it, CAPICE?

The Avatar Crisis was indeed 2nd edition under TSR. It was the exception that proved the rule, as it is the one module that had far reaching implications in basically every book to come after it, which I personally think is the best way to handle such a major event.
Outside of that every adventure/module/etc was pretty regional at most, but all were slightly tilted by events that happened during thr Crisis. Which just goes to show how big of a deal the Crisis was.
