Dark Sun was never really a good fit for D&D anyway. It's just like how people keep making shit like cyberpunk settings or lovecraftian style horror for D&D and having to reinvent almost everything instead of just using a different system.

And people in Waterdeep or the Heartlands probably were more concerned about the trade disruptions and had no idea about the other bullshit.
But between every module being about the end of days, and spellplague + 2nd sundering, it seems that ship has long since sailed.
