Fightin' Irish Edition
>What is Trench Crusade? An alternate weird history 28mm/32mm tabletop skirmish game still in a pre-release playtesting phase but with the full release slated for this year. Based on the art and lore of Mike Franchina, whose illustrations you may have seen floating around on /tg/ for a several years now, and designed by Tuomas Pirinen, one of the original creators of Mordheim. It's grimdark, it's visceral, it's awesome, and it's very Blanchitsu.
>What Trench Crusade is notTC not an excuse for you to discuss IRL religion, history that didn't occur in the game, culture war shit, or discord bullshit on /tg/. Keep it on topic.
>What's the QRD on the background? The Knights Templar turned heretic and opened the Gates of Hell when they took Jerusalem during the First Crusade. Over 800 years later the war is still ongoing as technology has developed to a pseudo diesel-punk WW1 standard and a third of Humanity has sided with the Infernal Princes.
>How do I get started? All the files are free online, but are split between the website and the discord. They have all been collected here for your convenience:

>Previous thread:>>95784749>Thread Question:What's your favourite piece of fluff so far?
I still can't find a good use case for muskets. Does anyone else have any good ideas?
>>95896119I was going to say dirge thralls, since they have no upgrade potential so you dont want to give them anything too expensive, but that faction gets a blunderbus that is the same price and is actually good for its point cost, albeit reduced range.
Seems like a kind of "sidearm" for melee characters, where it costs next to nothing and has good range.
>>95894197 (OP)>TQPath of the beast easily. I like how its people abandoned by civilization, so they abandon their civility and humanity. Also I'm interested in seeing what is their leadership like.
>>95896149But even in that case, wouldn't actual sidearms/handguns be a better? They have less range, but they can consistently do better damage because they're not -1d and depending on your setup, you might be able to use them along with a melee weapon in melee.
>>95896331Honestly I have this same issue with pistols. I just can't justify using them on basically anyone. They don't have assault so you can't actually shoot with them on the way in, so they're only useful on units with a significantly higher ranged stat than melee, which is... not very many units. Sultanate units don't want them because they can't use alchemical ammo, and while the idea of a sniper priest doing gunkata stuff with dual pistols in melee seems rad, they don't have Tough. And everyone else that has a higher ranged either can't use them or doesn't want to. So... combat engineers maybe?
Automatic pistols seem like an upgrade in that regard because they at least have assault, but most of the time those are heavily restricted and they're not cheap. Like for stigmatic nuns, two swords and a war cross is a better setup and a lot cheaper.
>>95896509I wish that prisoners could carry muskets, at least they'd have some kind of use
>>95896119Muskets are pretty okay starting ranged weapon for troops if you are low on ducats after kitting out your elites/heavy hitters. Remember that unlike Mordheim/Necromunda you aren't locked in to weapon sets which means you can change out and sell weapons.
>>95896590So, muskets are a starter weapon for building up blood markers? Damn, I wish they could take alternate ammo, though.
>>95896331Kindof. Remember, a weapons effectiveness at range is only full when its half the distance, past that you have a -1 to the rolls. Its why stuff like the warcross are good. They dont have falloff. A pistols has innately short range, and is only effective at half of it.
>>95896884That still puts the pistol's 6 inches to the musket's 8 inches, which feels more terrain dependent than to be a reliable consideration
>>95896891Im just putting it out there, musket also gets a bayonet but then that makes it more expensive than the pistol, which counts as a melee weapon in melee at no extra cost and is 2 handed. Seems useless if you arent inretested in the small increase to range.
Its a wierd one, but then again, if they were viable for whatever reason and not just for thematics, it would be pretty stupid to have a game set in WW1 where most units are using muskets. Dirge blunderbus makes sense only for that faction who are suppose to be really old. Like it feels like a weapon only wretched and thralls would have, but thralls cant use ranged weapons outside of dirge and with dirge they have a better alternative, and wretched cant use ranged weapons at all.
Could apply some risk reward mechanic, like the punt gun, where you can fire it normally, or overload it with a chance of it injuring the user if it fails, but even that seems like it might be too strong for what it is.
>>95896993I reckon if you wanted to do some swarm tactics, getting a double handful of cheap dudes to make a firing line and daring the other guy to approach you may work.
I have yet to see a real 'drown them in dice and bodies' approach to the game, despite the fact you actually could do it.
Doing some quick math, you could fit 15-17 azebs with alchemical ammo in to a single campaign list, while still having points left to kit out a captain. Even better if it is a Great Wall detachment with some high ground.
>>95897033Theres a 10 model limit for a starting warband, and people are only making their team based around the starting limit, so they try to kit everything out ideally I guess.
That said, there are scenarios where you cant take elites at all, those would be the games where swarm tactics with cheap weapons start getting used. Where even if units die you arent losing that much and know that you will probably take losses since your big hitters arent in the game, so you want more shots being fired in general than the enemy, rather than a few more well equipped shitties.
>>95897076>Theres a 10 model limit for a starting warbandShit, always forget that.
>try to kit everything out ideally I am consistently trying hard to not put all my eggs in the elite basket, and it's goddamn hard.
They have so many toys and potential, but a dude with a trench knife can put them down, and it's not even like it's incredibly unlikely.
And the more you try to make that unlikely, the less you can actually take the fight to the enemy.
It's a real struggle!
>>95894197 (OP)What do you guys think of the unofficial (but so clearly inspired and thematically consistent) Kickstarter featuring the Spanish Conquistadores/Inquisition faction? I quite like the theme and decided to back the project. They are not perfect minis (some models could have used a bit more detail) but the vibe it's surely there for me, also it will be my first TC project, so exciting!

>>95900035To wit, anon, I have heard tales that during WW1, there were people actually charging trenches in legit plate, wielding swords and axes to butcher dudes in fisticuffs.
>>95904566Nice, thanks anon!
>>95904827Trench plate is a bit different from full knight plate but it wouldn't be a far reach for actual knight plate to be used in a alternate universe.

This game will die on the vine if they can't get plastic kits out.
Maybe that's just cope because I know I won't touch it unless they do? But also it's big true
>>95904847I mean actual, 18th century Germanic style full plate.
Granted, these were apocryphal, I heard them while stationed in Germany from locals. A few beers in, and dudes whose families have a history of military service start recounting stories they heard from their grandfathers and great grandfathers.
>>95904866>that's just copeYes, it is.
Just get your kitbash on like the rest of us.
A lot of models fit for the game are cheap as chips to buy, and come in bulk, so you lose nothing from chopping them up.

>>95904869Its not full on ornate armour, but there was guys who had full armour and even chainmail. The WW1 Italian "Arditi" prioritized melee combat, and they wore armour and used full on melee weapons like 2 handed axes and spears, and are notable for charging while carrying a knife in their teeth.
>>95904866I am dissapointed that people are now cucked into thinking that kitbashing is not viable to have a game. I actually lament if they start doing plastic kits becuase thats all youll start seeing, and a huge part of the appeal of games like this is people actually making their own stuff instead of just buying it and fielding armies of grey.
>>95904925Kitbashing off of a proper foundation will always look better than motley kitbashing.
I haven't seen much great TC kitbashing to date. It's mostly scuffed shit done overtop of hatchet-sculpted historical plastics.
>>95904827>>95904919As for trench raiding a lot of french and brittish trench raiders used clubs, knives, even spears and swords made from scrap and recycled artillery shell casings and shrapnel
>>95904866You do know you can just order the kits from only-games.co?
Or if you have access to a 3d-printer just buy the files from Factory Fortress and print them yourself.

>>95904968The foundation is historical though, thats why its so prevailant, the official designs are using historical armours/uniforms with gubbins on them like crosses and bits of armour. The quality of work is down to the person making them, not everyone is a sculptor of course, so some look scuffed, but this is still nice to see, everyones army is custom made, and not just bought. Tabletop use to be as much about the craft as it was about the game they were for, its sad that fewer people want to make shit anymore because they dont like that they didnt get close to the quality of the master sculptors that make official prints. Its ok that it doesnt look like that, YOU made this thing and this is the only one that looks like it.
Ill post a few Ive seen that I liked.
>>95905058I am eager to look at the pics you've compiled. But it's way easier to convert heretics and culties than the other stuff. And the faction I'm most interested in (IS) is both the hardest to bash and the one with the least analogues in plastic historical ranges (and I will only kitbash with plastics, every other medium is inferior). I am jealous of people who can sculpt but that's a totally different skillset and ballgame from kitbashing.
>>95905078Ill post more when the thread needs bumped, dont want to flood.
I love seeing peoples work on stuff they made themselves, it was one of the biggest draws I had for this game coming off 40k where people seem to want to buy stuff rather than make it.
>>95905101Ironically, there's never been a better time for a skilled kitbasher to kitbash in both Warhammers than now, because of the huge variety of plastics.
It can be a little more involved than it was in the past because models are no longer armรtorsoรarm gingerbread men, but the actual components and details are way better.
>>95905087Well let me help you out with some suggestions to check:
>frostgrave wizards sprue for command and alchemist, take what you need from the bodies, theyre all wearing robs and have useful hand gestures for posing. Could also look at age of sigmar humans for ornate armours that arent typically western looking>fireforge black guard/foot berber infantry, for guys with robes and light armour>perry minature afghan tribesmen (these parts might be a bit small but you can use the bits like heads and weapons, these sprues are cheaper than dirt)>gripping beast arabs (cheap again, just a suggestion for if you want robes that are more plain where the intention is to add more things to them without bits of the base model getting in the way)>grab a ww2 british sprue from bolt action, they will then for stuff like lions and bull just use orcs or ogres from whatever range you prefer the look and replace the head, or look at age of sigmar stuff that you can use as a base. For everything youll obviously have to do some work but its a project, youre making a permanent thing, its not about how fast you can do its simply that you do it.

>>95909715If you're serious about this you're going to need to add an Adamite Communicant.
>>95909715Realized after posting that Blessed Stigmata doesn't make sense for the War Prohet.
What would make more sense would be a version of Lust Court's "Call of Flesh" power as Adamites are supposed to practice a form of sensual mysticism.
Sensual Mysticism
As a GOETIC (1) Spell, beckoning magic fills the air. Choose one enemy model this model can see. When the enemy next Activates that model, that model must Move as its first ACTION. This Move must be a Retreat if the model started its Activation in Melee Combat with a model other than the caster of this Spell. If that model is Down, it instead Stands and then Moves. During this movement, it moves in a direct path toward the caster of this Spell through any passable terrain, though not through Dangerous Terrain or Jumping Down.
It can act normally after taking the prescribed ACTION(S), or attempting to take the prescribed ACTION(S) if it couldnโt, but cannot target the caster of this Spell during that Activation with ranged or melee attacks.
Cheaper but crappier version of Call of Flesh that doesn't end activation but can't make models jump down or pass through dangerous terrain. Still fucks with action economy and placements.
>>95909732NTA, but I would think the potentially unlimited stigmatic nuns with capirotes would make up for that
>>95909732Yeah thinking of adding something like this:
>Communicants of the Adamatic Order refuses to wear armor, this includes the Communicant Cross. Adamatic Communicants instead starts with a Holy Relic, though their cost remains unchanged.
>>95909751capriotes would fall under the no-armor rule though if we are to go by the spirit of the adamatic order, as they had their "holy nudism" doctrine
After some more crossreferencing i've come up with this
Adamantic Order
This obscure sect, dating probably from the 2nd century, professed to have regained Adam and Eve's primeval innocence. Various accounts are given of their origin. Some think them to be an offshoot of the Carpocratians, who professed a sensual mysticism and a complete emancipation from the moral law. Others, on the contrary, consider them to be misguided ascetics, who strive to extirpate carnal desires by a return to simpler manners, and by the abolition of marriage.
They call their church "Paradise", claiming that its members are re-established in Adam and Eve's state of original innocence. Accordingly, they practice "holy nudism", reject the concept of marriage as foreign to Eden, saying it would never have existed but for sin, and live in absolute lawlessness, holding that, whatever they do, their actions can be neither good nor bad.
Still, some members of the order are drawn by the call to holy battle against the followers of the Deciever in Eden.
Adamantic Order Special Rules:
>Iron capriotes, gasmasks and all forms of armor except Trench Shield are forbidden as they go against the holy nudism doctrine of the Adamanatic Order
>May not take Shrine Achorites as the entombment goes against the Adamanatic Order principles.
>Communicants of the Adamatic Order refuses to wear armor, this includes the Communicant Cross. Adamatic Communicants instead starts with a Holy Relic, though their cost remains unchanged.
>Stigmatic Nuns of the Adamatic Order costs 40 Ducats and have a unlimited unit cap
>Trench Pilgrims have a 0-4 unit cap
>Entire army gains the Trench Pilgrim unit's Resurrection trait

>>95909910Love it. Should be noted, Stigmatic nuns are one of if not THE best effectiveness for cost units in the game, they are stupidly strong in practice. I think the cap removal and ressurection would be busted.
>replace war prophet profile with that of a stigmatic nun but with 2 melee and 2 shooting, they also have the ability "throes of ecstasy", where they target a unit in melee, both the unit and the prophet are knocked down immediately on an action roll. Both units are unable to get up unless they pass a risky action roll. Its the implication.
Final version
Warband Variant: Adamitic Order
This obscure sect of christianity, probably dating all the way from the 2nd century, professes to have regained Adam and Eve's primeval innocence. Various accounts are given of their origin with some thinking them to be an offshoot of the Carpocratians, who professed a sensual mysticism and a complete emancipation from the moral law. Still, some members of the order are drawn away from their paradise by the call to holy battle against the forces of the Deciever in Eden.
The Adamitic Order has the following special rules
>Holy Nudism: Iron capriotes, gasmasks and all forms of armor except Trench Shields are forbidden as they go against the holy nudism doctrine of
the Adamitic Order.
>Ascetic Monks: The Adamitic Order may not take Shrine Achorites as the entombment process goes against the Adamitic Order principles.

The actual hardest thing to kitbash in IS is assassins and jannisaries, such the point where I'm not even going to run them until I get official models.
Azebs, sappers, yuzbazi can all be kitbashed out of a base of historical arabia with some pieces of WW1/2 ranges for taste and flavor.
I managed to horribly mutilate a AoS slaaneshi sorcerer for my alchemist, and once he's painted, will offer excellent contrast of once sumptuous robes now torn, splattered in mud and blood, presenting a Big Ass Bomb in one hand, and a halberd-gun in the other.
The hardest part for me is deciding on a color scheme for each unit class.

maybe a trench priest or a medic if its a pick up game, acquire them later if its campaign?
how good is an automatic rifle with bayonet and shield?
>>95918372You can't use an automatic rifle with a shield. Shield takes up one hand always, both melee and ranged, so you can only use it with 1-handed ranged weapons or something with shield combo (which the auto rifle doesn't have). That said, auto rifle is amazingly good. I'd put mine on an LT or a sniper priest since you only get one. The list looks solid for Prussia, just make sure everyone has armor (and helmets, if you have ducats left over). Grenades go brrrr.
>>95918372Solid list with lots of shooty and EXPLOSIONS.
The only thing I would look at is getting a way to have Flame on the field to fuck up Grail players.
>how good is an automatic rifle with bayonet and shield? If you can't get smgs, entirely worthwhile, albeit expensive on a troop chassis. My IS list would struggle against this, unless my bull can do some crazy heavy lifting with the bombard.
>>95918434To add onto this re: automatic rifle. Since it's really a leader weapon due to being quite powerful but not heavy, you typically want a bayonet on it for the sniper priest, and paired with two swords or a sword/club on the lieutenant. An automatic rifle / machine gun fireteam is also insanely good at actually killing models from a distance since you get the cheap bloodbath on every model they both hit.

Quick rules question, the goetic warlock counts as having 2 swords. Does that mean that they get 2 attacks with the 2nd being at -1?
Also is it worth taking over a scripture guardian or sin eater or even special gear? I love the idea of it both fluff and model wise but I rarely see it or anyone talk about it.
>>95928608>Does that mean that they get 2 attacks with the 2nd being at -1?Yes
>Also is it worth taking over a scripture guardian or sin eater or even special gear?Probably not. It's great to tie up units that have terrible melee and want to be shooting constantly (lots of Sultanate and NA, some HL) but I would never spend Glory on it. Knights of Avarice can buy it for 110, and the one game I've got to run with it there felt pretty good at that cost. Despite the campaign and core rules having different ruling on whether a KoA warlock can be promoted, the Discord consensus seems to be that the campaign rules take precedence which would also open it up to some Melee and Stealth skills. I still think in most instances I'd rather promote an Annointed, but I could see some skills really juicing it up.

Compendium guy, figured I'd show how some features work in this new version.
This is an example of the "Add some extra equipment to your warband" rules - present in the HOW and KOA. Your warband will show these selections, which you can choose from a list that is auto-generated (so any future new equipment, or equipment that is added to the HOW default armoury, updates the list) and then whenever you select a piece of equipment in the future it will be added to the list.
This is all determines by JSON stuff more or less, so after the actual features are done and I have time to create proper documentation for it, anyone will be able to add "get extra equipment" rules to a custom faction/variant they create easily.

>>95894197 (OP)Hey anons, just dipping my toes into TC. Do either of the following lists look remotely playable?
Heretic Legion
Naval raiding party

Heretic priest: armor, pistol, club
Anointed: infiltrator, heavy flamer, maul
Arty Witch: knife (had a single spare point)
Trooper: MG
Trooper: GL
Trooper:GL
Heretic Legion
Chorister: 2 club, armor, infernal brand
Death commando: s. pistol, tartarus claws, armor
Heretic Priest: pistol, club, armor
Arty Witch
Trooper: MG
Trooper: GL
War Wolf
I've found it feels pretty difficult to fit objective grabbers into a list in TC, or am I making some fundamental list building mistakes?
>>95946461They both look playable. Personally i'd switch out the MG for a bolt action rifle + 1 more trooper with bolt action rifle. Slightly less firepower but more versatility, and it won't be a huge fire magnet for incoming enemy fire.
>>95946610Thanks anon, that would also solve my how to fit in objective grabbers too lol
>>95946461Adding on to what the other anon said, the MG has heavy so only the anointed can move and fire with it, so you either need to have perfect placement with a trooper and give him a shovel, or you need to spent a turn getting into position. On a trooper, also, it's kind of a waste unless they're at least a legionnaire with +1 ranged.
IMO silenced pistols are kinda bunk on a commando. I prefer gas grenades, which are more likely to soften a target for easy tartarus claw shenanigans. Your priest is also pretty undergeared.
For the naval raiding party, the real strength of that variant is the huge number of SMGs you can bring. That might serve your objective grabbing since it's more up close and personal.
>>95942138The Stigs are likely masochistic to cope with the pain they feel, so they'd be less likely to kill themselves if they did get enslaved as a Witch's throne.
>>95945068Always glad to see people coding with an eye to to future expansions and ease of use.
>>95946724How would you recommend gearing a priest anon?
Thanks for the advice I'll use it to improve my setups
>>95946803It depends a bit on what you're trying to do. Unfortunately most of the great stuff you really want to use on them (automatic rifle, hellblade etc) are glory items, and they don't have strong, so gearing one initially is kinda rough. If you're doing the naval party, I'd give him a SMG, shield, and sacrificial knife. Which is kinda pricey but if you swap over your troopers to SMGs also you will have some points to spare. If you're doing the regular variant, probably a semi-auto rifle and either a sacrificial knife and a sword, or two swords. You also can do the MG+shovel approach, but like the troopers he doesn't have strong so the same caveats apply, but the +2 ranged and tough will make the MG itself a lot scarier. Note that you'll need to use puppet master before firing if you do this, since firing the MG ends your turn.
>>95946880Thank you anon, it's greatly appreciated

Turn 2: NA took another casualty and destroyed two more caches, the brave sultanate troops took 3 more casualties from withering heavy weapons for. But were able to rally before breaking
Turn 3: after a valiant holdout the sultans leader killed another two shocktroops but ultimately was downed before more concentrated heavy weapons fire finished him off. New Antioch used there now dominant postion to destroy another cache of supplies.

Makes me wonder about scenario games like MESBG has, where the odds are completely stacked against one side and they can only use certain units, but each side just has a different objective. Would be neat to see something like 20 yeomen having to hold territory against a respawning serpent court horde.
>>95958530I remember seeing a scenario that limited the maximum base size, so that would probably be a good enough cap for this sort of thing. Like say only up to X 25mm models and Y free reinforcements show up.

hobbylet here looking for opinions - i'm cranking a few resin bases out for a campaign this weekend, want to drybrush to make them pop a little more.
would you drybrush a gray over the top to sort of match the tufts, or do you think a lighter brown tone would go better? they're pretty dark already and my ||black grail|| models are pretty well shaded, so i'm leaning towards the brighter option. wasn't sure whether tufts should go before or after this, but amazon sent me an entire display of deadland tufts last year after ordering one pack, so i'm still going through em and don't really give a shit if i need to pull em off and use new ones.

>>95954238Probably one of the best approaches to a Skirmish game in a while. The game is very lethal, but it rewards smart table play and a balancing of risk vs reward that many others don't.
The rules themselves are intuitive and, imo, very easy to teach to others. It strikes a good mix between punchy and fast, while also keeping things fluffy. I learned the rules, built 2 lists, and ran a practice game all under 2 hours. The +1/-1 dice system is as genius as it is frustratingly swingy.
The real bread and butter of the system is in the Campaign, which is more like Necromunda in that you have multiple sessions where your roster and objectives evolve with each game. This helps even out the, sometimes high, degrees of randomness of each game and also makes the game's central risk-reward loop even more important when playing the table.

Hey, /trench/. I just recently came to know about this game and I find it really interesting. However, I've seen folks on the internet describe the lore for this game as half-baked and inconsistent, because it was made to accommodate what the artists came up with not the other way round. Also, how expensive are the minis compared to the stuff Games Workshop puts out?
>>95972893Yeah Iโve committed to it because thralls ganging up are great but they need to get there first
>>95972908Personally I find the lore to be pretty great, and most of the "inconsistencies" so far seem to be the result of the game and its lore not being finished yet. Most of the online screeching is because an e-celeb got banned off a fan-run discord server, and he's decided to wage a war against the game even though the devs had nothing to do with that.
The models are ultra-cheap because you're printing them yourself. The STLs are about average price for something that wasn't datamined out of a videogame, and the only cost above that is the resin. All of the rules are free.
>>95972908Be interested in the game and the setting as flavour for it, lore is never that deep in a board game itโs just to improve your time playing.
Also the minis themselves are pricy but the game is built around using whatever minis you like the vaguely convey the described troop
>>95972908>https://only-games.co/collections/trench-crusadefor ordering the minis. These are pre-orders since they can't afford to have constant mini production and hope people buy enough of them to break even.
>https://www.myminifactory.com/users/FactoryFortressIncTo purchase the STL files and use your own mini-fab to make the models yourself.
It's a cost of $50+Shipping (~$10) vs $30+printing (I have literally no idea how to price this shit); All against the price of whatever nonsense WH has priced its models at now.
Ignore the lore, unless you like fluffing your BRs like
>>95972901 and keep in mind
>>95972953>built around using whatever minis you like the vaguely convey the describedSo you're not literally confined to using just the approved models. Seen some fuck-cool self-made sculpts in here. That I always forget to save.
>>95972979Correct the only thing that matters is just matching the base size on the end result
>>95972952>The STLs are about average price for something that wasn't datamined out of a videogameThis is not true, and I say this as someone who likes the game and has bought several of the official STLs post Kickstarter. They tend to be more expensive on average, and you don't get the crazy bulk discounts you'd find for other people on MyMiniFactory because they don't have a monthly Tribe option.
Luckily the game has taken off enough that you have dozens of people making sculpts for the game that you can pick and choose, or you could just follow the Westfalia or eventually the Creature Caster Tribes and end up with a Heretic and Grail army respectively for like $10 a month.
>>95972908>I've seen folks on the internet describe the lore for this game as half-baked and inconsistent, because it was made to accommodate what the artists came up with not the other way roundYes and no. Previously the lore was poorly collected because it's spread all over the place between Artstation pics, Instagram, Discord, Twitter posts, etc which isn't helping, and it's always been the main artist's personal setting he made as cool background lore for his art, but what's there is neat (I'm partial to the short story where an angel shows up and everyone has a real bad time). A lot of the complaints you're going to see online are at best people who are upset there isn't 40 years worth of wiki articles and short stories like 40k and at worst are culture warriors who only have knowledge of the setting through an extended game of telephone bitching. Right now it seems like the lore has been collected on the official site, so I'd suggest just taking a look around and making your own judgement on things.
>>95973044>upset there isn't 40 years worth of wiki articles and short storiesHuh. Never actually hit me how much lore WH40K has. I remember the first editions had some very stupid shit they had to retcon out (Half-elf Space Marines). So TC probably has to go through the same process until it develops its own Black Library copy and starts churning out novels of varying quality.
>>95973044>the creature caster tribesGiven my precious subscription to them I guarantee they will fuck it up and barely release any models a month. Usually they release a random faction then complete it a year later
Theyโve also pushed โthe great hungerโ back to work on the rules, but refuse to release the stls theyโve had for ages
>>95973115Yeah it's easy to take for granted just how many Warhammer books there are because very few people read every single one instead of just picking and choosing the couple that interest them. Like for instance the Horus Heresy alone has 54 mainline books, 10 for the Siege of Terra as a separate mini series, and 21 dedicated Primarch books. And that's just for what is effectively the backstory of modern 40k.
>>95973130I didn't realize they were that bad. I saw they were giving out a free preview mini so I assumed they were getting that shit together, but I guess I was wrong.
>>95973168If you can grab the individual models you want on sale thatโs fine but I wouldnโt sub until theyโve proved theyโll stick to finishing a faction before moving on
>>95972953>Be interested in the game and the setting as flavour for it, lore is never that deep in a board game itโs just to improve your time playing.Thank you, but I disagree. People like different aspects of a hobby, and for me lore is important for feeling immersed in a game.

>>95980024Depends entirely on your army, and thematics.
You aren't a WAAC faggot, right?
>>95980024Campaign games are about a narrrative, min maxing doesnt really work. Random chance and parameters from game to game can fuck you over or play heavily in your odds, so build towards a theme and try to keep that as you go or youll be plugging gaps you didnt need to fill just to try and remain consistent in every department.
Pick a weapon or unit you like and build around them as your focus for the warband.
>this round there is no elites>you geared everything around elites and are now stuck using your shitties>instead of trying to trade blows, try and hurt the enemy as much as possible, where even if they win they are going to pay for it, as those casualties and injuries are going to apply to the next game, where for you, your guys were just shitties, it doesnt matters as much to you if they get rekt as it does for themStuff like that will happen, you cant min max for this you just have to know what YOUR strength is for the campaign.
>>95980057>>95980173I'm not trying to minmax, I just go "ooh shiney" and include another guy in my list. One of every special troop and 4 basic dudes runs me at around 700 points if they all have super basic gear
Is it a bad idea to run everybody in dogshit equipment? I don't care about being competitive, but I will objectively have less fun if I'm getting thrashed every game
>>95980461Kindof. You definately want units you consider "disposable" that if they die it doesnt cost you a lot to replace, so you can take risks with them on objectives and holding enemies etc, but if everyone is like this then youre going to get completely bodied in encounters where you actually want to try and overcome an enemy. It might be fun to throw a regular yeoman with a bolt action bayonet against a praetor, but in almost every scenario they are going to lose that fight, if your entire army is nothing but units like this going up against units like that that you are going to have a bad time becuse you have no answer to the enemies well equipped stuff.
Pick a unit you like and outfit them with good stuff and have the "disposables" with cheaper gear to account for that.
>>95980461You can get by without having the best in class weapons starting out, but I'd strongly suggest having Reinforced Armor on your elites since they'll be your most expensive units and you really want them to live so they can accumulate skills. Also if any of your units have Strong and you aren't taking advantage of that with a Heavy gun on one-handing a greatsword you're missing out. Four basic dudes also might be overkill. Personally I usually use two and that number seems to work well.
Frostgrave announced a third Cultist box, Trench Pilgrims eating good.
>>95981274No one sells just capirotes. I don't need more random dudes, I need pointy helms

>>95981274God fucking damnit.

Just saw this, thought it was neat.
Each of the heretic sub factions has an insect motif Black Grail is maggots and worms, the Beast ticks and parasites but I can't quite figure out the Church of Metamorphosis. At the one hand they they look like praying mantises on the other they look like some type of shrimp.
>>95983277Carcinizationwould be a form of metamorphosis.
>all is crab>no civilization>return to crab
>>95983290>no civilization>return to crabI don't think it's a regression because carcinization is an evolution it's moving forwards. The Beast definitely represents regression but the Church is different.
>>95973850Nah thats a classic servant of mammon
>>95982396>WGA - Afghan Warriors>Gripping Beast - Arab Spearmen & Archers>Fireforge - Berber Infantry, Black Guard, Russian Infantry (they can pass for Arab with some kitbashing)Bolt Action in general for bits.
What I did was take the general bodies and work with them; Arab body, German/Prussian heads for the gasmasks, shaved down the rim of the helmet and used tape to make a new turban, and this was for my baseline Azeb/Skirmisher.
Bolt Action gives you a pile a spare bits to kit your dudes with; I used spare pauldrons to represent Standard Armor, full breastplates for Reinforced, had grenades, shovels, pouches, bayonets and knives aplenty.
I made 2 sappers in the same fashion, with flamethrowers from a WW2 kit.
My alchemist is based on a WF Slaaneshi sorcerer that I mutilated and kitted up.
I have no assassin, because I am struggling to think of a good kit for that, although I saw one last thread that may work for assassins and alchemists both.
Lions are whatever beast thing you want, Brazen Bulls, many suggest ogres or trolls from other lines, but I went with Warmahordes.
I'm not even going to fucking attempt to kitbash a Jannisarry, outside my league. I would call for the spirit of Scriptarious to give me inspiration, but that is of a bygone era, ne'er to return.
>>95983295To my understanding is the church is all about moving beyond god's intended path, which they as restricting humanity's potential, so they study all the secret beyond-the-stars knowledge to improve and iterate themselves to be better than god's design.

>>95985681All plastic and kitbashed. I bought a set of medieval foot knights and WW2 American soldiers both from Perry miniatures. I think being the same brand made them very easy to slot together. The wings are from another company and cut to fit. The HMI was printed using a free sculpt
