Boy I wish it didn't cost an entire mortgage.
Perhaps it shouldn't have cost a fortune and more people would have bought and played it.
>>95906407 (OP)Every month I receive news about. There seem to be enough people interested for them to launch new things.
If you think Warhammer is expensive, you have not see Kingdom Death.
Had a lot of fun playing it on a virtual tabletop but no way am I paying for it.
>>95907588More like the kickstarter still has a mountain of plastic and cardboard goodies to deliver on yet, almost ten years later. There's so much content for this game the original backer value is high tier lunacy (on the creator's part) and makes for an unforgettable painting and playing experience even to this day. I think it's a shame it has gone underground in relevancy, but the studio is making good on all of their promises, no matter the time or cost to do so.
>>95906407 (OP)Turns out that making a board game is the style of a miniatures wargame with the prices of a miniatures wargame leaves you with only a small dedicated fanbase that will keep you game alive but will not be something people talk about.

What is this even, like, about?? Does it have a plot/lore? All I know is that of porn model-tier tulpas wake up in the Plain of Faces from Eclipse/Berserk and proceed to have R-rated, Dark Souls-esque adventure fighting horrible (but well designed) hentai monsters until they inevitably die horribly.
>>95909531They print stuff in-house to help keep the lights on while they dig themselves in deep with scope creep on the greatest TG kickstarter project ever undertaken.
>>95909546>What is this even, like, about??It's one part Monster Hunter-esque boss fighting with 4 survivors, one part civilisation management where you'll make new gear/settlement buildings with the monster's remains and do research/events/etc., and one part tracking your next quarry down. That's the three stage loop to each "year" and it's all wrapped up in a campaign format where things will happen as you progress. You'll fight new monsters, harder versions of prior monsters with new tricks, get new buildings, level up your survivors, have your survivors die, level up new ones, etc. It's a good loop with some very solid monster mechanics where their turns are driven by some basic AI and then a deck of cards that tell you how they'll act, but the deck of cards also functions their wounds. As you deal damage you'll remove cards from their pool slowly whittling down their options. Lots of different campaigns with their own premises and different monsters, plus some standalone stuff you can slot into any campaign for more variety.
>Does it have a plot/lore?It does. It's a lot of vibes at first though and the lore that is there is generally spoilers because of how the game is formatted. It's not super story heavy but the campaigns do reveal things. You can watch the prologue for all the set up you need.
https://youtu.be/FNLc8dHv0Ac
>All I know is that of porn model-tier tulpas wake up...That's largely all you need to know, and is all that's explained by the prologue (which you should watch). You've woken up in a horrific land populated by horrific monsters and now you've gotta make the best of it with the other people that are unlucky enough to be there with you. The majority of the monsters are more horror than sexual horror though. None of the core monsters lean into that stuff though, the only sexy bits there are the survivors.

The Lord of the Rings Movies existed and were liked but didn't kick off a wave in the youth book market, mainly staying self contained in pop-culture.
If my 7th grade English teacher didn't fill his shelf with old pulp novels I would of had no exposure to anything besides anime, video games, and Game of Thrones for anything close to classical fantasy.
And nowadays its all Fae Court Romance Novels for women, because the publishing industry figured out years ago that women do the most shopping and so are the most likely to purchase books while out, so in turn the industry has become woman dominated with little interest in male oriented literature outside of the old well regarded holdout and Sanderson

>>95911094I'm somewhat certain there isn't and you're going off an AI hallucination. It's been a while since I've read much of the Divine Comedy but I couldn't recall a location much like it. The only thing consistently telling me there is such a place is Google's AI overview and that told me varying places in Violence, Malebolge, and Cocytus had places you could refer to as such. But the closest Hell gets there would be something like Antenore or Ptolomaea, but KDM doesn't take place on a giant frozen lake with some bodies trapped in it. It's a plain of tightly packed stone faces. So of the three attached images, which two are the most similar? A plain of tightly packed stone faces, a plain of tightly packed faces, or a frozen lack with some heads sticking out?
It's not the Divine Comedy that is being referenced here. It's Berserk. Even if I'm wrong and there is something closer to it that I've forgotten it's still a direct reference to Berserk. Even if Berserk is referencing Inferno, KDM is still directly referring to Berserk. It's not the only place this happens either. Honourable Berserker is pretty clearly Guts. Dragon Slayer is, well, Dragon Slayer. The Lucky Charm is based on Behelit. It's not a game that's shy about its sources of inspiration. There are more classical sources of inspiration in KDM, this is just not one of those. It's a very overt reference to a piece of media. As such that piece of media will get brought up because it's a touchstone for the creator.

>>95914129It's popular because the game's fucking good and the creator has an uncompromising stance on how the game and its models should look. I'm sorry you didn't believe in it for a decade of proving their excellence, but that isn't my problem.

The awg boys talk about it now and then and they seem to like it, it also seems to sit nicely at the crossover between gooner and weeb for those into that, I think OP is exaggerating its demise.
The gooner aspect comes out heavy handed in the merchandise but the gameplay itself and overall story is a much more serious and touching adventure than the bodacious models. I know when someone hasn't played the game when they focus on the T&A as being the only point to KDM at all. The mechanics, how you build a civilization, the personal journeys that these survivors share together are truly magical and make for compelling gameplay.
The best way to frame it is that the big sexy models are there to help fund the development of this truly fascinating world, one that has a secret underlying story to it that is unparalleled in boardgames that are made today. The mystery begs to be solved, and the only way to do that is to take your own journey through the kingdom of death.
>>95916192>gooner aspectI think the original idea was conan style sword&sorcery, but the only artist they could get were the anime-esc kind.

It always amazed me no matter what poots did to reprint the game there was always a portion of vocal people saying how he still had demand left over so please make more. Time and again, and so he adopted a belief that all main game releases should always be made available, which is expensive and challenging to do so. And he still sells out, and there's still more yet folks screaming at him. Dude's doing his best, his team is dedicated and the fans are ravenous. These things haven't changed in all these years.

>>95926291>;)Yep. Full-on mindbreak mode.
>>95927375that's almost 30 years ago, but still a good point
Im willing to bite the bullet on this but I have to ask, how complicated is it? My player group are normies and actual retards. One of them can barely spell.
>>95936028The game flow isn't terribly complicated but the experience is very customizable. Through customizing out your settlement you can add very intricate interactions between features of the game and your success at hunting. What do I mean by this? Well you can have fully set up wombo combos baked into your society that when X happens you can turn it into an opportunity for Y outcomes. You can also make playing incredibly straight forward by building up each hunting party to only use 4 gear setups between members, and when one specialist dies then you roll up a new survivor to take their place.
Like imagine you have a ranged specialist, they use bows or thrown weapons, then a spear user that can attack from mixed ranges and has trinkets to help with critical strikes. Next you pad the rest out with a highly beefy tank rocking a shield and a healer/support unit that brings the items needed to overcome the targeted boss encounter and you're done. Your bow user can target upgrades for themselves that makes them good at their task. Now when the bow lady dies, she gets replaced by a bow man that starts fresh in raw stats but uses the same gear setup as the woman before him.
So in short you can streamline the game but sticking to a set playbook or customize every single person in your encampment to be utterly unique, including their name and their relationships with the others. The game has emergent narratives that bring these characters to life and make unforgettable stories that will be passed on to the next of kin like a real tribal rite of passage. I love how the game continues to surprise me even when simple decisions are being made that can color the rest of the campaign.
In short complexity can be managed but lean the fuck into it and it's a tabletop experience like no other. If you think it's hard to teach your game group complexity remember that I taught my own mother to play this game, and she has a cast of characters that she plays with just fine.
>>95936028some guys made workshop add-ons for TTS. so if you happen to have the tabletop sim, you could try it for free and get a feel if your group would be too retarded for it.

>>95911359Dragon Age: Origins.
Been playing this for a decade on and off and the only bad thing about it is its community, so quite happy it hasn't been "in the spotlight" for a long time, because it wasn't gatekept enough as is.
>>95942999Whats wrong with the community? It has to be pretty small with how expensive this shit is. Are they all coomers?
>>95943071Most of the community are KS-fags that got in cheap and consider it their "lifestyle", yet a big part of those people do not even play the game, they just use the pseudo-official discord to talk shit unrelated to the game.
The rest are mostly painters, who also don't play the game. The few who do play the game are obsessed about it to an autistic level, but the worst part is that the mods are power-tripping idiots who police around people away from even talking about the game outside miniatures, as they consider sharing pictures of rules/cards/etc as "pirating" or "spoiling" (as most don't play the game much).
It's just a big drama club of U.S. based liberals who can't agree do they love or hate the creator each time a monthly-update drops.
It's sad. The actual gameplay loop is quite fun and has plenty of depth with build-a-bear campaign model to have real discussion about strategy, optimization or fun/interesting builds for your survivors.
I'm lowkey glad that between international trade breakdown, inflation, recession and% rate hikes businesses that basically revolved around hyping up kickstarter campaigns for boardgames but filled with 5 kilos of overpriced chinesium plastic are finally starting to die. >>95953557>Poots should licence his ip out to a game company to make a vidya like DarkSouls/EldenringNo he shouldn't and yes he's already working on a video game project in-house. There's a separate division for the video game as well.
>>95951891>>95952008The real con of Core box is that the minis that came with it kinda "aged bad" compared to the newest minis they release. Biggest problem being the difference in scale.
Even some of the monster/nemesis minis look too small compared to new survivor minis they're releasing.
Interestingly, in GCE you kinda have some minis from old scale and a lot from new.
While I'm glad the creator made up an in-lore reason for it through Giant Blood, it's still jarring when you play with them on the table.
Same goes for all the "old" expansions.

>>95964188There's definitely some scale creep (left side minis are newer) but not enough to notice on the gaming table. Unless you plan to put them together in a diorama it shouldn't be a problem.
The armor sets that come in the core box and 1st wave expacs have ball joints for better posing, but require more gap filling because of that, so its a bit of a tradeoff.
If they ever release a 2.0 box (estimated arrival 2047) they'll probably include upscaled armor sets.
>>95906407 (OP)Contrary to popular belief not everything needs a general that quickly runs out of things to say and becomes a useless thread of people just necrobumping it forever with zero actual discussion.
>>95971183You're right, there are too many warhammer threads.
>>95906407 (OP)I love it, I just which I had people to play it with, playing solo gets old after a while.
my only real gripe with the game is that every time something new is release they add more and more rules so the game ends of being messy, now I just play with my own homebrew version of the game.
>>95971187I know exactly what to do, we shall create a new thread for ALL the warhammer discussion
>>95906407 (OP)Grimdark fatigue is a real thing, adding a high price tag onto that will immediately make people shy away from your product.
>b-but WH40K is exploding with the normies!40k was always the lightest among the genre, and it's not really grimdark anymore. That, and most people just buy the video games, rather than the actual models or books.
>But [x] KDM community is still around!Part of the reason it's still niche. They don't generally talk about it anywhere else, in part because of the reaction it gets elsewhere and the lack of derails in said community.
>>95973298niche is good
no one wants the warhammer retards and spergs in their hobby space
>>95974390True, but you shouldn't say "my game is le forgotten" and also expect people to flood to your hobby space because something is "just that good" when it's basically hardwired to be extremely niche and alienating from the base concept alone.

>>95909546it's about a nightmare world inhabited by a myriad of powerful god-like entities, the reason why they look like "porn model-tier tulpas" is because they are not human, they were made by one of the entities in his own perfect image, a lot of the monster you fight were made by other entities and some times you fight the entities themselves.
the main "plot" is about a freshly made batch of this pale humanoid creatures trying to survive in this world, they have no memory or knowledge, they don't even know how to talk, write, or even make fire, and as you progress through the game they start to learn and developed culture.
>>95910052takes place in another dimension connected through dreams of Lovecraftian nature.
liked it. any thought on aeon trespass odyssey?
>>95906407 (OP)I really want it, but I can't justify ยฃ500 plus shipping from America plus the state mandated theft that is import tax. I really wish i could though as I have a couple of the models and they are sweet, and I buy some stuff from Chinese recasters. The minis are beautiful, the campaign looks amazing, but I cannae afford it.
>>95925014>He pays money for games>Especially the ones that explicitly try to run a racketLmao on you
>inb4 piracy kills the hobby
Where do you even start with this game?
Which model has the most ass n titties?
>>95976709I'm pretty sure there is one monster that is 80% titties, the Wet Nurse personally I prefer the mother/grandmother because the preggo cheesecake nun look is sexy
Starting? You sell several organs and uour firstborn to raise the funds, then buy the starter box when it's available. Don't forget a mortgage to afford the expansions.
>>95976709>Where do you even start with this game?TTS or their official digital version unless you have spare 400 real american dollars just lying around (in which case you still wouldnt be able to buy the game rn cause it's sold out)
>>95976545isnt there a bong warehouse specifically for this
>>95953557not Dark Souls / Elden Ring.
A Survival Horror Monster Hunter Clone.
The mechanics write themselves, If I was part of a gamedev company I would be pitching this idea to everyone that had ears. It's a gold vein waiting to be mined.
>>95914159>the creator has an uncompromising stance on how the game and its models should lookWhy are there so many coomer-bait models? I don't want my edgy dark fantasy to be full of chronic gooners.
>>95977169>isnt there a bong warehouse specifically for thisLast time I checked, no

>>95978452Body horror is a core part of the KD's aesthetic and isn't really used in a sexual manner in the core game/expacs.
The pinup models are for painters and aren't required to play the game. They are a lot of fun to paint though.
>>95978471There is one, but looks like you m8s are out of core game stock, same as the rest of us. TTS has a lot of scripted mods that are better than a physical set if you want to play solo.
>>95978452some miniatures are call "pinups" and those are the coomer bait, they have nothing to do with the game and are sold separately, they are sexualize versions of existing minis.
this doesn't meant that there isn't any sexualization in the base game, because there's quite a few, but they are more tame compare to the absolute coom that are pinups.
they need to make money somehow.
this might be my new favorite mini. I'm going to try recasting the water with transparent resin
>>95987959great taste anon
>>95987959Every female cast having a Pam Grier tier coke bottle figure makes my blood run quick, it's almost offensive.
>>95987959 Sounds pretty good. I have a Beyond the Wall diorama in my pile of shame where I recast the lantern in clear resin and redid some other things. I hope you post to WIP even if I don't hang out on 4chan much these days.
>>95943130Close. You definitely spend more time painting than playing it seems. I'm somewhat of a hermit and haven't cared for GW since they released super spess mahreens back in 2014 and pulled the buy new models for new edition they always do
>ivory dragon scans are Fucked
>instead of just sending it poots finds some asshole who will do it properly, at his own expense
>scans are spot on
bless him, even jew workshop is sending out dogshit CAD these days
>>95906407 (OP)overprices hentai coomer game
>>95977780nah it should be quite literally Eldenring, btw that game and many like it have blatantly ripped off Poots.
Licensing their ip to make the mother of all edgy souls games is only right.
>>95990165just the way I like my games
>>95990165>overpriceyeah kinda
>hentai coomer gamenot really, you make it as coom as you want to.
>>95976709I think the best way to start would be a Vignette of Death. They are self contain stories that are way cheaper than the core game and its like a mini, more simplistic version of the actual game, they also come with exclusive minis that you can use with the core game if you end up buying it.
>spoilerprobably pic related
>>95976568Given the physical component reliance for board games in general, piracy is pretty fucking small in the hobby.
By all means, if you got the ability to pirate all the shit for a proper KDM game, do it. I actually applaud the effort at that point.
>>95910228Japan won. You can clutch the five hairs remaining on your head about it and scold people, or you can make better and more interesting art, and point out good examples of western media. They exist but no one on four chan talks about them, so people here who are otherwise spoiled for choice are mostly going to know higher quality stuff.
anyone knows which TTS workshop addon is the most complete or best?
>>95906407 (OP)does this imply an actual TTRPG of it eventually?
>>96008025You could just print all the cards and play with standee instead of minis.
But yeah while I think the game is good, I don't think it's worth putting this much effort into it
>>96018684KDM is one of those games where the spectecal is part of the game. You take that away and a game that is already kinda mid for the time investment required just becomes outright bad.
I got plenty of games that don't really do the whole table presence with minis and artwork out the ass and are good games. HexPlore It: Valley of the Undead King is a hex crawling adventure game with basically no artwork for 90% of the encounters and the character tracking stuff is done on dry erase boards with spreadsheet tier combat and it's still one of my favorite games. KDM just doesn't accomplish being an entertaining experience for most of its playtime.
>>96020002I do agree that one of the main selling point of KDM is the spectacle however I do really like the gameplay loop, its so good that 3 other board game, that I know of, copy it but yeah it's also a big time investment.
Thanks for reminding me about this game. I've wanted to buy it for a long time, it's always out of stock, then I forget about it. Rinse and repeat. Let's hope I forget about it again before black Friday...
>>96017410Ive never heard of any suggestion to that, but there are phases where you could role play, story events, settlement phases, hunts.
You guys forget the part where this game is an absolute pain in the ass to play even in Virtual Tabletops, and any combination of bad RNG can make a run unsalvageable and make you lose hours, even days of progress and make you start all over again?
>>96024775Sounds like a (you) problem
>>96024775The perfect engine for Darkest Dungeon, then.
>>95906407 (OP)you didn't forget
Has anyone done a Dream Keeper campaign?
I wish they weren't so secretive about the lore.
>>96026891it's pretty funky
also introduces non-linear time in the KD universe
>>95916668Actually they specifically wanted anime-style artists.
Adam Poots is an absolute weeb. Early 2000's super-weeb at that.
>>95917291Oh yeah, the paperbag dude is barely known and does other grimderp stuff, but his KD:M playthrough was one of very very few that I enjoyed watching. KD:M doesn't translate well to being streamed/recorded.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gjs9RX0YHnE
The Black Knight demo is another entertaining one to show someone or watch if you haven't done so.
>>96024775Skill issue
>>96024775if you are having such a hard time with the game just make a couple of house rules, poots isn't going to break into your house and kill you if you homebrew the game.
>>96026891It's fun the first time. Afterwards you know more or less most of the things you need to in order to assure that you'll at least get to God Hand.
Personally, over time philosophies have became too annoying to deal with, because of book keeping required and the power level of them being all over the place, from some being insanely over powered to some being plain useless.
GCE is still great overall, just that the honey moon period is over.
As far as lore goes, I think the campaign raises more questions than answers.
>>96026891Haven't done it yet because I need to find some motivation to build/paint the monsters.
But I just did a Core+EoD people of the skull campaign which was pretty fun.
Not as easy as I thought, but that might be because I was hunting for strains and got horrendous luck, but it forces you to play differently than a normal campaign and uses some weird gear (hollow blade my love)
Anyone got any pdfs to post? Did anything come out after gamblers chest? I have a mighty need to read these gamebooks.
>>96029879>over time philosophies have became too annoying to deal withthe feature creep is getting worse every year, I hope poots stops adding mechanics.
>>96037158Yeah but you can just not use them
>>96038326I guess, I just wish that not every expansion came with some BS mechanic that I would use once and then never again.
