Black is not in check but has no legal move. Moving your bishop to e6 screwed you because it cut off the black kings only escape.

In these situations it's better to always check the king until you find the right way to checkmate. If you trap it in a corner like you did, make sure it has a few squares available, then bring in the piece that will support the mate without further limiting it's movement; in your case, king to c2.

>Right but him having no legal move shouldn't result in draw, it should result in a lose.
its simple:
>make non-legal move, loose (not possible online)
>can't make a legal move, draw

it's just the base rules you have to accept them. All that "but I could have won because I was in the advantage" doesn't matter. If you are ahead but not able to checkmate, then you don't deserve a win.

this is called "Stalemate", a draw
(In shatranj and medieval chess, this was a win, along with taking all the opponent's pieces. Stalemate only became a draw in the 1400s, shortly before the Queen and Bishop got their powerful long range moves.)

this is true. The new chess stalemate is designed to reward mental retards who lose the battlefield. That's one part of why variants are so much superior to playing regular chess. Stalemate in original chess is a win as his king has been captured by your army, and chaturanga bare-piece rule means a naked king is simply defeated.

Though the very best is the way duck chess does it, where the king is simply allowed to step in front of pawns and die, so there's no reward at all for having your retard king trapped in a spearwall of enemies, the king is only rewarded for having escape squares, not rewarded for putting itself in a trash corner spot. Of more than a thousand rated duck games, I have a grand total of zero draws. Without the stalemate gimmick, whoever is the better player essentially always wins. The stalemate flaw is literally the reason "chess is a boring game" exists.

Can someone redpill me on the Englund Gambit? Why are low elo players so fascinated with this Englund queen check variation?

I've unironically played this EXACT opening (or some variation of it) probably hundreds of times in casual unranked games.
Is this like the new scholar's mate or something?

1. d4 e5
2. dxe5 Nc6
3. Nf3 Qe7
4. Bf4 Qb4+
5. Bd2 Qxb2
6. Nc3 Bb4
7. Rb1 Qa3
8. Nd5 ....

The thing that bothers me is you would think that for how easy it is to get the queen trapped or get forked in this line, it would be nowhere near as common as it is. So that begs the question, are retards just losing in this line and playing it the EXACT SAME WAY every single game? Surely this is an Indian/Middle East cheese right? I refuse to believe people that have an IQ above 80 play this.
