to be fair, the starting 4 novice paths were a very solid foundation to build anything from. I don't mind starting with very few build options at lower levels, it makes for a nice on-ramp for new players.
Scientist was a fun addition for a completely new flavor, I'm worried the adept will just be another magician

The issue is that those 4 took up 40% of your character's abilities. Like I said, the game has significantly improved their options even with the 4 starting paths, but having almost half of every character's abilities stuck between 1 of 4 options on release was kind of poor in retrospect. Weird Wizard was a lot better about this out of the gate with various Novice Path options between them, and only having them eat up 30% of your entire build.

Yeah, because reactions are a core mechanic in the game, which requires enemies to go first. Because they are called, "reactions." Taking the initiative means you are forgoing your reaction to possibly kill an enemy before they have a chance to take their own action. Because it is a game.

Depends. Is it an erotic RPG, and were cockroaches on the menu? Is the gay anal rape mandatory Can I ask them to hold the cockroaches? Gross stuff in a broad horror game is sorta to be expected, horror is often gross because gross things are horrific. I'd be upset if there were vampires in a ostensibly realistic mil sim game, but I wouldn't if they were in an urban fantasy game. An option I'll never use in an RPG is not a problem because every RPG I've ever read has lots of those.
