I was looking for Kanon Cruel Version when I stop to think if there was any Urban Legend / Lost Media type thing for ttRPGs.
Something like the lost digital tools for Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition that got canned due to the main Dev's (Joseph Batten) murder-suicide incident.

I know nothing about lost media rogs but I know obscure ones. Did you know there's a creepypasta RPG and it had gunbladed in it.

Fuck "lost media", there is no TTRPG Lost Media

Time to talk about obscure, barely known or thought lost RPGS, and games "they" don't want you to know about

There tons of tabletop stuff that was on now dead parts of the internet such as Geocities and angelfire. I know this because I spend a huge amount of time being on those sites back in the day.

There was a site with things called netbooks, They were text files (this was before PDFs was a thing) with stuff like weapons, armors, and plot hooks. Useful site to visit if you are looking for ideas.

Oh oh! I have one!
The Leverage tabletop RPG. It's not just a pretty good game in its own right and the only one who attempted to represent hacking in a believable way, but it became the basis for the Cortex system.
It was discontinued and removed from every online shop after the editor lost the rights to it.

I went back to check if The Missionaries of Azah was still online.
The HTML certificate is decades outdated, but the website is still there in all of its 90s gloriousness and the files still downloadable: http://larry.rivers.free.fr/
Enjoy it while you can, anons
It's the only game I have ever seen, which has a mechanics for genetics (a character can get stats from both their parents), or where you roll to see if the art you are creating is pretentious stuff, or stupid slop.

Not lost media, but urban legend.
I mentioned it in this game called "Scales" in this other thread there >>95945417
French game, long out of print, probably never translated in English outside of this fan summary translation I did. I only know about this game because I got one copy of it I got from a friend, who got it in a thrift shop IIRC. Pretty close to a lost media to begin with.
But here's the weird part:
In this game, you play otherkins. However, the game itself never calls them that. As a matter of fact, as far as I'm aware, it far predates all of the internet communities around it, it may even predate the term (it's a game from the early 90s). So where did they get the idea?
Also weird: RAW, you are not supposed to choose which magical creature your character is. You are supposed to discover it throughout the game, by playing.
Lots of elements in the book feels like its deliberately attempting to blur the difference between life and the game. Like something which was designed partly as a game, partly as an initiation.
Still, the setting is fun (basically urban fantasy with a dragon conspiracy) and the system is serviceable, so even if you remove all of that it's still an engaging game.
