What do you think will be the major design philosophy change in D&D 6e that will mark a break with 5e?

Probably further simplified rules. Subclasses might be phased out for class options like the Warlock's eldritch invocations
more and less restrictive rules for making custom spells
more of that "ancestry doesn't matter pick and choose whatever op features you like!!@" faggotry
Probably some singleplayer content like the deep rock board game for the lonely fat friendless nerds

They had 10 years to work on a new edition and all we got was an """updated""" 5e and new books with AI slop on them, what makes you think they'll start putting in effort now?

I know not what the philosophy of 6e will be, only that 7e will be played with sticks and stones.

Class only determines your starting build and equipment, Souls-y style. You can level up however the fuck you want.

I would predict some revival of D&D Basic with expanded classes, spells and magic items, which has been well play-tested.

That seems to be the route that the hobby in general is going. A lot of OSR-style has been highly successful, lately, so if I was a marketting exec at WotC I'd be saying "let's capitalize on the momentum for a return to Basic and say that we're the only real one and the rest are just immitations." And maybe I'd expand it, too. Why stop at fantasy? Release a second set that does the same thing but Sci Fi a la Stars Without Number, or a version that's Gamma World. Really claw back the title of king of the ttrpg by being the one that's for all things, in the simplified manner that the people still playing d20 systems are already headed.

I would like to see more official settings that cover various genres and emphasizes different flavors the game has on hand.

my answer would have been significantly different months ago. Now I think that 6e isn't coming, 5e was superceded by D&D 2024, lead designers resigned, WotC is all in on ai generative tools and virtual tabletop, and Hasbro is all in on licensing out the brand. They recently opened up an in-house video game studio, I imagine there's video games coming.

The problem is that people like all the greebles involved with modern d20 style characters. Most of the player facing content you see about these games is about builds and shit. I don't think people want a less complicated character.

If I were designing 6e I'd get rid of the absolutely pants on head retarded way enemies are handled, but that will probably never happen.

How's that? I thought 5E simplified monster design and unlinked it from PC classes and progression to make it easier for the GM to make monster stats on the fly. What would you change?

That doesn't really have the staying power and out of game experience that buildfaggotry (but not too much) offers.

I haven't looked at the 2024 MM so maybe I am behind the times, but monsters shouldn't have player-character stats at all and I shouldn't have to reference the fuckin' phb for a monster/opponent spells. I'd like basically hit points, a modifier against stealth rolls made against them, Reflex/Fort/Will saves, and attacks and spells. Spells should just be right there in the block, as abilities with either a cool down or a set amount of charges.
