Bruh I understand you dislike the K6BD for being a lib but you don't need to spam his work here every day for the purpose of fostering hate.

I played one session. It was neat.
Unfortunately the GM was really nervous and inexperienced so session 2 never ended up getting scheduled.

I like the art, but it doesn't tell me anything about the game.

There are a hundred games like this, where it feels like they started with an aesthetic, and everything is in service to it. Even at the expense of readability of good sense (picrel for some of the classes).

A very specific pet peeve of mine is just how they name shit.
There are so many fucking resources to track that are all called some proper noun. Like these words all mean things, sure, but when we assign them all to one of a dozen meta points, it makes my head spin.

You build up "pathos", which you convert into "divine agony", but you also have to track how many "psyche bursts" you have to spend on "blasphemies", but you can also boost those depending on how much "sin" you have. You don’t take damage, you “make a slash on your Execution Talisman.” It’s like “spell points” was trademarked so they had to call them something else. I guess having special names for all of this is cute, but it doesn’t exactly lend itself to a smooth or intuitive game.

I really like KSBD, but so far none of the author’s games have appealed to me at all. It’s obvious that he’s an artist first and foremost, and the art is cool. Shame about the game.

It’s an RPG made by a decently-popular webcomic artist, who also released Lancer, and a bunch of other vastly less successful game. The idea of Cain is that you play as a bunch of psychic exorcists who work for the titular organisation to hunt “Sins”, which are monsters born from negative emotions.

If you ask me, it’s a glorified artbook. I recommend turning your brain off and looking through it if the visual style appeals to you at all, but the game itself? Eh. It’s a ptba-style “mark xp at the end of the session if your character talked about his feelings” type game. Enemies are treated like skill challenges almost instead of the usual initiative combat. All weapons are identical, regardless of whether you have an assault rifle or a baseball bat. There is fuck all in the way of skills, itemisation, or anything like that.

There’s an audience for games like this, I guess, but it’s so lightweight that it’s one step removed from playing house imo.

Oh yeah, small addendum: it’s really angsty. Supposedly it’s inspired by Evangelion, and I can see an anima influence for sure, but to me it leans more toward JJK or Madoka Magica.

Isn't that the plot of Soul Eater?

Gotcha. Already have a few games like that, but it's not the worst I've ever heard. Maybe I'll look for the art later then, thank you.

Lot of style, minimal substance. He needs a secondary writer there to reign him in and double check his game design writing, because he just kinda goes off of vibes, and mentally checks out whenever he has to write rules for anything except
>and then your character does some insane, black metal, anime bullshit, while looking feral and angry

it's 100% jjk at home, pure u19 exorcistslop. or rather like someone tried to make edgier jjk in a western setting but thought all that entailed was ripping out the shinto-buddhist terms and replacing them with vaguely church-ish sounding ones.

Ouch. That's brutal, but very accurate. While reading it, I couldn't help but think "what purpose does that Biblical coat of paint even serve?" The references are extremely surface level, and seem to only be here for more angst.

Aside from the author, is another "Cool for a oneshot or maybe a very short campaign" type of system that is flooding itch for a while now.
