I think JotC noticed people were playing a version of magic they hadn't yet commodified and went crazy, then when people started buying what amounted to reprint sets because JotC REFUSED to print good cards in standard, they got the wrong idea that "Oh wow would you look at that everyone plays cummandurr!" and then turned the entire fucking game just into cumhander and now you literally don't have a choice.
