Do you have any settings that you like that have systems that you dislike? For me, it's Dark Sun. I really like the dying earth, mad max/dune feel, the intrigue, and the interplay between psionics and magic, and the stark beauty of Athas itself. I like the takes on the races and cultures, and the detail that went into the tablelands.

I'm not the biggest fan of DnD however. While the cosmology per planescape is neat, I find classes to be restrictive, even with multiclassing, and the large focus on combat mechanics and the comparative lack of social mechanics leaves a lot to be desired, comparatively speaking. I also feel the d20 is a poor choice for a universal die given the flat 5% chance per side. Right now I'm hoping to try a different system, though I'm still unsure if I want GURPS or something that is still universal but less complex like BRP.

Yeah, I'm definitely learning towards mithras, I typically prefer building a setting out of the box with GURPS, conversion seems much more of a pain. Main kink is the magic system, Psionics is easy enough to emulate but I want to get the defiler/preserver magic right. I'm not as familiar with Runequest, beyond playing King of Dragon Pass.

Also I fucking love there being a two minute wait time to post.

Maybe Barbarians of Lemuria or Savage Worlds could work

I also really like the Dark Sun setting but never liked the rules for DnD. Always thought about using some generic rules and use the Dark Sun setting, or just make/adapt my own rules for my own game, but that's never gonna happen.

When it comes to tabletop games, I don't have any examples of liking setting and disliking system; I'll only play what I make, and I only make what I like.

I've read people recommending Savage Worlds for Dark Sun but I haven't used it myself yet. I'm pretty inexperienced in the system and only have cursory knowledge of Dark sun so idk if I should still just take some fanmade conversion and still run it
