Never ran tw2k, but have played dark conspiracy.
New system to all of us. So we made characters together, first two combats we all were pretty easy going and forgiving.
By night 4 we were reasonably fluid, and at the minimum all playing by the same rules....right or wrong

how much did they players assist in that case (reading the rules, looking up stuff etc)?
I don't know how difficult normal combat encounters actually are. They might not be that bad if you don't throw in all the complicated stuff at once.

IIRC Twilight 2000 and Traveller are actually in the same universe. One game just takes place some two to three thousand years in the future.

We all kinda took turns passing the book around, only had the one.
Wasnt fast but we read the whole combat section at least once.
Table is all upper iq though, not alot of the lower grade players.
Kinda lucked out in the group back then
