regular chess has become 10,000 hours of boring memorization. I was tired of losing so I switched to chess variants and got 98% winrate, it feels so good to be a grandmaster at something without having ever read a single book or memorized anyone's 5000 openings.

Fuck, does he really? My dad, also 60, is currently simping for some 50-something, showering her with gifts, expecting to net a wife.

Anyways, the girls need to be banned from chess. Their content is just another form of very softcore porn, like anything is if it involves a girl and a camera. Their whole thing is “we’re girls and we can move pieces around on a board and also don’t you really want to stick your dick inside us and ejaculate?” Girls+camera+internet=this. Just porn with plausible deniability.

Everything needs to be sex-segregated. I went to a bathhouse once in ukraine (not gay in Eastern Europe) a couple years ago and had a fucking blast. We chilled in the sauna, drank tea, and played chess. I did not share a common tongue with those guys but had a great time. They called me Fischer, kek. That’s when I got whitepilled on male-only spaces. The whole dynamic is night and day.

TLDR boys rule, no girls allowed in chess.

This is my first post on this board. Came here hoping to encounter a sudoku general thread since I realized I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time since 2020 solving variant sudokus (thousands, maybe ten thousand puzzles by now) and have never discussed them. Would be nice to. But a chess general is also my cup of tea. I think sudoku discussion takes place mainly on discord channels and the community is insanely gay and troon.

Agadmator is great. He’s who got me into chess. “The greatest queen sacrifice in chess history” - his most popular video - I think is the first one I watched. Been hooked since. When I do watch playthroughs/recaps of games, it’s either agadmator, chesswisdom, or chessdawg.

Though I can see that there’s a pipeline from agad to levy/hikaru to ethots. Did this happen because of queens gambit?

My whole life I was afraid of getting into chess and considered myself really bad at that game in particular. Week ago I've started playing on a whim and it's really mindboggling how easily you can win games at <400 elo playing with thirdies without knowing any theory or openings and just making favourable trades.

Aborting games just makes you shit at everything. Just play an unsolved variant instead. There's a whole variation of ones that're already basically solved by computer so you must memorize openings and variants that computer has no clue what a correct opening would be.

High Prep (memorization or lose instantly) Atomic, SpellChess, Antichess and FourPlayerChess. They are simply not worth playing, both games you must have memorized the computer-solved opening theory or else have a losing position in the first 5 moves every single time as they make attacking way too easy to checkmate (or super-combo for anti)

Low Prep variants - Duck Chess, Chaturanga

Not sure yet - 3-check, King of the Hill, Horde, Fog-of-War

* add Bughouse/Crazyhouse to the High Prep or instantly lose category. Both make attacking way too easy because of the teleporting pawn forks and pieces.

openings are incredibly important in 4pc since you play 1 turn then 3 opponents get a turn to play before you get to make a move again. If you don't have incredibly deep opening theory memorization you get checkmated nearly instantly by 2 players working together to multi-turn you. And if you try to go super-passive to not get insta-checkmated then they take advantage to instantly promote a whole pile of queens far away from you (unlike regular chess where they must push through you to get a queen)
It's very far down the anti-casual list of variants.

there's a 4th player in 4 player chess very far away from you, so if the guy to your left and the guy to your right both attack you, they're giving that guy complete freedom to get himself a pile of free queens or checkmate them.

You must start each 4 player game with a memorized opening repertoire that makes it too costly for them to 2v1 you, creating a Mutually Assured Destruction balance of power where it takes too much time and too much material loss to checkmate you while the guy on top of the board gets free moves.

The reason I'd not recommendable as a game is that with the board like 6x bigger and 4 players instead of 2, you'd have to memorize a million times more to brute force the game like regular chess. But that doesn't mean you can play without memorizing, as there's no possible way to calculate 4 players and the enormous board in 10-15 seconds, there's simply too many combinations.

The saying "being good at chess is a sign of a gentleman, being great at chess is a sign of a life wasted" applies there especially. You couldn't become great at 4PC without wasting your life, as it requires way too many years upon years of memorization. A mathematically simpler variant, such as Duck Chess, I've coached someone to go from new to 2000 strength in a single week (never been paid I just randomly help people)

Everyone says this “just play principally” advice, but I disagree. You can fall into many traps just playing natural moves. I say pick an opening for both colors and stick to them until you feel you have a grasp on all the opponent responses and you’re not getting blown to bits every game.
If you like solid “safe” games, learn the London as white and French as black. Learn the middle game ideas of the London to get why the pieces go where they go. Try to set up the Greek Gift if the position allows.
Learn the major variations of the French 3-4 moves deep and just jump in. If they play something and you have no idea what to do, just play and check with the engine after what the best response was and remember.
There are many openings, but just pick one and learn it inside and out and you’ll feel better about your play. I play the Spanish as white and Caro Cann as black. You of course still need principles, but I think saying “forget about the opening until XXXX elo” leaves people lost.

I should add to this: a big thing you get from learning these is pawn structure. When you don’t have an opening as a beginner, it’s very hard to understand when to push for pawn breaks, when to keep tension, etc. An opening system gives your position stability so you’re not randomly flailing

I think they’d take games off each other. Bobby would win some in the middle game with insane tactics. If it gets to a barebones endgame, Magnus wins

>start a new account
>say I'm a beginner instead of new to chess this time around
>they automatically rate me 1000
>after 30 matches, I'm firmly sitting at 1100 without much of a problem
How come? Is Elo complete bollocks when it comes to shitters? If I were playing against 700s, I'd be winning 50% of the time. Against 1100s, I'm winning 50%. So basically there's 0 skill difference between these two Elos, right?

This happened to me too on Lichess. I switched from chess.com where I had 350/700 ELO (rapid/daily). Yet on Lichess I started on 1500, after 3 matches was dropped to 1100 and have been floating there or thereabouts since. I think ELO is a bit bullshitty in that you'll get really good and really bad players in many brackets and as a result, you win some you lose some.

It's an endemic problem of the .com due to how people false state their initial elo.
Your elo will adjust eventually, it'll take several months, less if you play in large arenas tournaments.

Hi everyone,
I used to play in the weekly tournaments every week but stopped for reasons and also stopped posting here. What's new with the board? Do people still post in the other thread on /vg/ and which is more active? Are the lichess weekly tournaments still going on or have they died off?

Also I hit a new personal high of 2200 .com rapid :)
I gave up trying to tell people about my chess accomplishments years ago because they don't understand and don't care, so the only people I can share this information with is other chess people.

I just played and beat Nemo in rapid a few days ago. Granted I looked at her stream afterwards and she was drinking and also playing poker during our game, so I can't really brag too much.

I find it's unfortunately common for older people to figure out how to do young people entertainment and their old people brains can't handle the all stimulus so they just devolve into prime slop consoomers. I have no idea how to fix this, my dad has fallen into a similar trap (he's not that bad though, he just spends too much time on his phone imo) and I have no idea how to help him.
If anyone has advice I'll take it.

Why do low elo and low IQ players INSIST on playing out games to move 50 or 60 that they lost on move 10? Why do they never just resign?
Like are they banking that you will fuck it up and stalemate? Why do they play like this?
Like, they will have just a king and a pawn, and I will have a queen, two rooks, a bishop, and a knight, and they insist on playing on.
The more I play chess, the more I realize that the average chess player is deeply deeply mentally ill. Not meme level mental illness, but unironic asylum level mental illness.

Yes, it's almost exclusively an Indian/Middle Eastern thing. Another thing they do is they don't resign, they just sit and run the clock out like a scumbag when they blunder their queen.
But if you are idle, the game gets disconnected, so some of them know this, and every 30 seconds or so they will move their mouse around so the site doesn't register them as being idle. The level of mental illness that requires someone to act like this truly boggles the mind. And the disturbing thing is that this is not isolated behavior. I see this shit like 1 out of every 5 games.

To me, this is almost like the shopping cart theory. If you behave like this, you have forfeited your rights to be allowed in society. You can't be allowed near humans.

You just lost or drew a game you thought was won, didn't you.
It's because there's oftentimes more of a chance than you think. I can't even begin to count the number of games I've had where I get an advantage early, but end up losing because it's either not as strong an advantage as I thought, or because I get careless and stop paying as close attention. Truly painful losses but it's part of the game.4m

>but they’re cute!

This is exactly why they have to be banned. Because you and I are dumbass apes and we need to focus on chess instead of sticking our dicks inside the girls. It’s why every arena they enter eventually become a lek.

I would actually argue that ONLY the cute ones have to be banned. Uggos can stay, lol. We should have a council of men, before which any new prospective female chess player (who wants to venture outside female tournaments) will be presented. Blood flow monitors will be connected to these men’s dicks. If there is more than a certain amount of blood inflow, then the girl can’t join.

>why don’t people resign?

Cause once every 100 games where you’re getting crushed, your opponent blunders and the tables turn. It’s the hope that this will happen again that keeps people from resigning. Unlikely, but still possible. I usually resign though if I’m getting killed.
