I hesitate to call 20 pages of rules text and 20 pages of oracle "wordy" in a world of 200+ page rulebooks, but I suppose that is the cost of no art or additional layout breaking it up.

As far as rules, I wanted to ensure that most interactions and such are clear to avoid confusion. It's essentially at the least wording possible while remaining as clear as possible.

For the oracle, I wanted to provide enough for players to grab on to in universe so it doesn't devolve into pure math, while still allowing groups to interpret and improvise. I actually had playtesters complain that the quick reference sheet for the oracle cut out 95% of the fiction and purely listed mechanical effects of each voting option.

I have the best idea for a game of all time that I've mentally gone over for about 5 years now and all I have to show for it is the "rough draft idea doc" which has about three sentences written down

So I'm just uhh you know uhh working on it and stuff lol

Finishing projects makes me feel depressed. I only enjoy working or thinking about working on projects.

I feel you anon. I had been meditating about my game for years, too.
When my girlfriend got pregnant, this year, something clicked in my mind, I realised that I would be out of free time very soon and finally starting sitting my ass in front of my computer every chance I get and actually put stuff on paper with the idea that what I'm writing down is final.
It's painfully slow, but it adds up. I had one full section finished in a month or so. And it's super gratifying to look back and see the work done.

Have you playtested your game, yet? (even with the rules mostly in your mind)

I had the idea in my head for over a decade. Then I decided to actually start doing some rough drafts. Then the setting and game changed so dramatically I was basically doing an entire new project. But I worked on it everyday, even if it was just to write a 3 sentence idea down and used the good days to push through the boring parts. Now I am actually a quarter way done. I just need to make content and do some balance checks at this point.

>Started working on "the best TTRPG idea ever" (tm) in a doc file writing down actual rules
>Started playtesting parts of it
>It's not what I expected
>redo parts
>re-test these parts
>now this affects other parts I need to redo
>way too much text to re-write overall
switching to mindmaps of ideas over rules as text saves a ton of time on iterating over ideas
>playtest part, it's not what I expected
>change one node and maybe some child nodes
>bubbles as a medium forces you to be brief
it's great

PS
The best idea ever turned out to be shit and I swapped most parts of it since

Egg on my face for trying to post in good faith on the "post the TTRPG you are working on" thread then.

The elevator pitch is "Playing low-level D&D 3.5 with a Darkest Dungeon character you made in GURPS".

I've slowly been splicing in OSR procedures, and we play every week.

I liked Redwall enough to write a 240 page book on a not!Redwall setting. It's more of a tool box for sandbox games but I've run a few campaigns and everyone quite likes the game. I've actually already written up a bunch of supplementry stuff but right now my focus is on pushing through the physical release when I get the new cover in a month or so.

I'm actually quite interested in how this game plays. This could be a really cool play by post game too with a smidge of tweaking. Also the player sheet is very nice.

I finished mine and it's on DTRPG - I'm the dark elf guy. My next project is going to be smaller in scope - either a short adventure path or a big dungeon, not sure yet.

I have found that the game runs pretty smoothly, even at six people, with a full 10-year game taking about 3-4 sessions including community creation. The main issues I ran into with play testing was that there tended to be a huge domino effect when one community collapsed they all would, but I think the current rules should fix that.

My greatest personal concern is that so far all of the playtests have included me, so I don't know how the game will run when a group of people who have never seen it before try to play it, which is where I'll know if the actual rules are clear enough or not.

Also, I read through the whole first section of Primrose, and it's so evocative of a Redwood-esque world, I love it. I have skimmed the rules and want to give them a closer look, a couple things in there were very interesting to me.

Was making a quick TTRPG that'd be easy to play within World of Warcraft for an Epsilon phase but I've sorta ran out of Steam after making character creation.

Postmodern osr

Because osr is a fucking grift anyway and literally anything can be osr if it's le'dark fantasy where nobody get shit. I'm having fun pulling tables and numbers out of my asshole for classes.

Wanna be a paladin? Great. Here's the paladin level table like AD&D and prior did for oddly specific saving throws. No you don't roll stats. That's what the table is for. The table is the six normal stats periodically going lower to just roll equal or higher than on a d20.

Every class has different progression tables.

Level drain is now essentially HP damage.

Wanna pick a race for your dwarf? Sure go ahead. Here's another fucking table for the dwarves damage output when he attacks with a corresponding stat. I won't tell you you HAVE to use strength with your axe. But I will tell you if you use strength at level 1 to 8 you're dealing 4d10 damage. Because monsters will resist stat damages. A rock golem probs has like strength resistance -30 or something. One could call this armor class...and to be getting hit at 0.

In fact maybe I should make an AC table for players too. I wasn't planning too as on my end attacks were just gonna be "the stone golem throws a big fucking rock at you. You three players make 6 dex saves. Fail all of them you die.

>Fuck you I'm not keeping track of damage
>You'll probably make at least one save out of six
