The template for fantasy RPGs is
-a setting themed around medieval europe
-the base character is a guy with sword and shield
--with additional characters being a guy with a bow, and a guy with robes and magic
-everything else is just variations of these, to different intensities.

But what would D&D look like if it was designed somewhere else?

Say some asian country. Would the base character be a guy with a bow and magic? That's the base template all else would be variations of? And if there are a big 3 in character choices like in the west, would one of them always be some sort of animal hybrid? Or would D&D be pretty universal? You'll have a melee guy, ranged guy, and magic guy - and the world is pretty pre modern but not ancient.

It depends on what the culturally significant works were that influenced those hypothetical writers

as far as indians go, as portrayed by your pic then its obvious no thief would be included and they would all be versions of paladins, aristocrat warriors and priests

Mazes & Minotaurs was made as a "revival" of a fictional first TTRPG that was set in ancient Greek and didn't have fantasy wargaming roots. It is pretty fun read since the writing sticks to that meta theme.
