Do bretonians have any figures like blue beard or De sade?
>>96022151Do you want one?
>>96022158This sounds ominous
Newfag here today. Had my first teaching game today from a local wfb player. Iโm not sure if he was really quite equipped with the knowledge because he had to look stuff up a lot.
Most of the principles from 40k carried over. I read all the warcom pdfs and watched many batreps. The main things that confused me were:
>to hit tables
>to wound tables (mostly same as 40k)
>battle resolution
>the insane amount of special keywords on each unit
Oh and where are the stats for this weapon? Why not just put them in the unit card? Why must i reference a whole other book just to find out the AP of a weapon?
Another issue was not understanding why you should even interect with infantry at all. Why not just walk around them and them and never charge? One unit of men at arms wiped out a giant who charged into them.
Whats even the point of ranged units? Since the charge phase happens before the shooting phase, you cant widdle down a unit if its not engaged, and it seems that just about everything hits and wounds on fuckin 5โs and 6โs?
Overall not entirely sure if i enjoy the game that much but maybe just wasnt the best scenario. Still want to paint my cathay dudes regardless
>>96022161Asking if there's a de sade sounds ominous.
Happy New Year from Cathay.
A year and a half late, but hey,
better late than never.
>>96022172The weapon profiles are your unit profiles for hand weapons. Then there are generic weapon types that most units are equipped with that modify the way the weapon works relative to the wielder. All great weapons add 2 strength and make their user initiative one. All halberds add +1 str to the user. All spears allow wielders to fight in an extra rank. Itโs far less to memorize than in 40K and itโs more realistic in that youโre using the profile of the weapon wielder and modifying it based on what they are armed with, vs using a weapon profile that is detached from the user.
Thatโs one thing I hate about modern 40k. Why in close combat do I hit the same amount of times against a grot as I do against a primarch? Obviously one is far more skilled in combat than the other, but this isnโt modelled at all in to hit rolls. Itโs very gamified. Something that doesnโt happen in Warhammer Fantasy.
>>96022218Why are they bros? Why would Gelt return the Chinese lands?
>>96022172With the tables just look them up. Hit is double plus 1, greater than, equal or less, and less than half for 2-6+ to hit. Wound is basically just +2, +1, equal, -1, -2.
Weapons are in the core rulebook because largely the weapons are identical across armies.
Monsters are more useful against cav or support now.
Some ranged is useful, the game is just melee focused for the most part.
>>96022172>to hit tablesif your WS is lower than your opponent, you're hitting on 5s, if his WS is double +1 yours, you're hitting on 6s. If you can't memorize that, just consult the chart. It takes two seconds once you know what you're doing.
>combat resolutionYou'll learn how to do this automatically the more you play. It takes time.
>keywordsRead the rulebook. You'll have them memorized within 3 games. If not, use the index so you can find them quickly. If you can understand what lethal hits or twin linked do in 40k, you can understand what frenzy does.
>weapon statsSee above, but these are even easier to memorize.
>infantryBecause you need to kill them to secure victory points. Charge them in their flank or rear and they will die. Don't go full retard with a giant and charge a unit in its front. You're playing a rank and flank game.
>ranged unitsThey exist to shoot at things and kill them. Yes, you can whittle down a unit, that's what stand and shoot is for. Yes, it's hard to kill things with individual shots - that's what volley fire is for. You're going to be getting a lot of shots in over the course of the entire game and your opponent won't be able to do anything about it. Shooting is very strong. Remember, you're not playing 40k.
>cathayYeah, it was your first game, what did you expect? You'll learn the system as you play more. Paint your models first.
The next DLC for Total War Warhammer 3, "The Small Giants of the Empire," will be released on April 1, 3026.
What a wonderful view, the Empire is by far the best place to live in the Old World.
>>96022225Equal but not half your opponent is 4's
>>96022267All the more reason to consult the chart. Print it out and refer to it when necessary. Given time, you'll memorize it.
The Great and Majestic City of ALTDORF, Capital of the EMPIRE, with more than one million inhabitants, is the largest and most populated city in the Old World and possibly in the entire world.
Collecting Space Marines and then Ogres, how small the Cathay models are is pretty surprising. Donโt know how Iโll paint any detail on the faces lmao.
>>96022293Youโre never gonna get me to care about any particular city in fantasy, even the gortrek and Felix books couldnโt do that for me.
>>96022293Post this in sloppa not here.
Malekith, Supreme King of the Druchii unleashed his full power against the hordes of chaos.

>>96022491Secondaries
>>96022491AoS dying/drying has all the flighty types flocking to us (we are technically the "new thing") while secondaries have both Cathay to doompost and a new c7 book to doompost/race bait about. Coupled with it being summer meaning less games for most of us, it's making these threads shittier than usual.
>>96022491scizophrenics that don't see the reality of how the game is actually played in LGSs and get upset that reality isn't a white dwarf article, the same type of fags that also think AoS is a massive boogeyman and not just an irrelevant sidegame like us
Yesterday, Korgpth's Blood Raiders encountered a sinister Vampire Counts army. We played Break Point at 1k.
This battle was more or less decided by our cavalry. After making an absurd deployment error, the Undead gradually ground down the Chaos army with a huge Grave Guard unit.
First to fall were the Hounds, then Marauders followed by the Warriors and Ogres. A brief moment occurred where the Necromancer general nearly fell to a Khorne Warrior but was saved by his ward.
Korgoth received a full charge of a unit of Blood Knights and a Thrall. After challenging and slaying his way through most of the unit, even butchering the Thrall in glorious combat, he realised that his entire army had been annihilated and quit the field. The Chaos army had reached its break point.
The Vampires were victorious but Korgoth lived to fight another day!
>>96022611I've enjoyed korgoths Saturday morning cartoon villain levels of escaping to fight another battle, keep em comming anon!
The second battle involved Korgoth's Blood Raiders and a warband of Ogres! Another 1k point battle, this time playing The Dark Monolith Narrative scenario.
The Chaos Ogres were butchered in the second turn by the Ogre Bruiser and his Irongut unit after a bait attempt went horribly wrong.
Korgoth then lead a ddvastating counter charge, challenging and severely wounding the Ogre general. The Knights tore a bloody swathe through the Iron Guts and ran them down but overran off the board!
However, the Chaos flank was completely wiped out by a trio of Mournfang cavalry and when Korgoth returned to the field with his loyal chosen, the chaos army had been annihilated. But it was not over...
I'm just getting into this recently (y'all might have seen my dark brown/red beastmen posts)
How does this game play at 500 pts? What about 750?
>>96022700Obviously very different at 25% the size of a "normal" game, as you suspect
>>96022669A sense of doubt momentarily spread over the Chaos Knights but Korgoth, with a mighty battlecry, restored their bloodlust and they charged into the bull unit lead by an ogre butcher residing at the base of the Monolith.
The charge was a slaughter, inflicting 11 wounds on the ogres and receiving only a single casualty, the Ogre's broke and were annihilated by Korgoth and his chosen.
All that remained were the titanic trio of mournfang cavalry and Korgoth and 4 Chosen. Shaking the field with their titanic mounts, the Mournfang thundered into the chosen knights to devastating effect.
For a third time Korgoth called a challenge and once more a duel began. Wounds were traded on both sides but the Chosen held. Korgoth's Armour of the Damned, making him impedvious to this point, waa dented and let a wound through.
After winning the combat and charging from the FBIGO, the Mournfang lost their standard and Champion and this time broke, Korgoth and one last chosen knight pursuing.
The game ended at this point, Chaos winning at a ddvastating cost!
>>96022654Thanks anon. I have decided Korgoth is essentially a mad champion who warriors follow to their invariable doom. They follow him in the hopes of finding glory as legends say of this wandering champion who seeks the mightiest foes and those who survive become awesome in power. What they don't realise though, is he tends to be the only survivor as the battles he ends up in are a death wish.
>>96022700500 points can be decent with Seize the Tower restrictions or a 25% point cap of units.
That said, having played both, it is quick but enjoyable. 500 especially lends itself to a more relaxed play but armies can rapidly be destroyed.
>>96022700i do quite a bit 750/1k pts with beastmen at times, usually you can afford a few small sized units or 1 big one and a bit of chaff and then 1, maybe2 heros. Its solid enough for learning but really limits how much combos or magic items you can bring as well as making core very important (luckily our core is great) since you cant spam it as easily yet have to bring 125/187 pts worth, so having a core tax really hurts in smaller games if your core is shit
Thought I saw people saying somewhere that you can now use regen against wounds lost by unstable models to lost combats, is this true?
>>96022716To give a brief summary, Mournfang cavalry are crazy! Wrapped up my entire left flank like nothing. First time I've seen a unit live up to its appearance in warhammer.
I was also struck by an image when Korgoth and the Chosen returned from the pursuit back to the field to only Ogres as with Theoden at Pellanor Field before the charge, exceot obviously an evil version.
Armour of the Damned is also crazy underrated. Forcing rerolls to hit of the enemy was stupid good at reducing damage that, between three challenges, Korgoth received 1 wound. Hell, the first duel it turned 3/4 hits to zero.
Also, despite challenges suffering from gameyness, I really enjoyed challenging over and over. My opponents even got into it, though after the Bruiser general died he chose to receive it with a champion next time!
The Blood Knight unit always being challenged and forced to receive it in the first game was funny too, a qeue of vampires facing my general only to perish!
TOW is definitely more fun than I could have imagined, already having memorable moments like the Mournfang and Chosen Knight clash. Hope to play more soon.

>>96022894>green heraldry was generally not a thing in historical armorials outside of a few examples and thus is not a thing for Bretonnians>green is the "fey color" in Bretonnian lore or something similar>the Green Knight is the foremost fey being in BretonniaMakes sense to me.
>>96023152If enough of his scary skely priests are "killed", his army is immediately fucked and he has to retreat or potentially suffer massive permadeath losses if he hasn't already. Tomb Kings don't get to replenish their numbers with fresh bodies like VC do, if one of their boney lads gets obliterated while he's down he's just gone for good. Every time Settra leaves the Land of the Dead, he does so with a (slightly) smaller army, otherwise TKs would easily btfo the setting in a nonstop no-sleep blitzkrieg.

I hate my LGS sometimes
>caters almost entirely to 40k
>because of this, almost all their terrain and boards are for 40k
>luckily I know theres a 6x4 grass mat sitting unloved in a corner
>organize game with opponent, LGS knows we're coming etc
>LGS only has space for 3 games at a time
>arrive, LGS has already set up 2 40k boards because they don't know what terrain i'll need
>guy goes to get out the shitty AoS spearhead boards (the ones with the objective markers printed on) because they're the only boards left
>tell him its fine as i grab the grass mat from the corner
>because its 6x4 it takes up more space
>this makes the 40k boards have less space around the sides off the board for say, objective cards or models
>guy complains about this, says I shouldve told him I needed more space etc despite never asking about the board we need
>play game
>only 1 40k game happens as no one else organized a game so why did the guy set up 2 boards to begin with, its not even normal game night times
i'm not playing on a shit board.
>>96023579More importantly, where is Deathsword?

feel free to correct me if im wrong but TOW goes by end times rules so every old named character is dead and cannot be revived unless they pull some primaris card from their sleeve in the next edition after every olden army has gotten their books hopefully
im not a big lore guy but didnt wood elves get their original named characters unlike everyone else or am i thinking about total war
>>96023653they got orion and araloth so....yes?
orion kinda always exists, no real excuse for araloth though other than "he has a plastic model"
>>96023653I'm not sure what you mean, ToW takes place hundreds of years before 8th and the End Times.
This different timeframe means some characters like Gelt or Franz are not born yet, but elven characters who have much longer lifespans like Araloth or Orion (since he reincarnates) are around.
Tyrion and Teclis are also around, but they chose not to focus on them yet and to focus on other characters.
MetaFriends, what are the new auto includes for High Elves and Empire after the FAQ? Are State Troops with Halberds and shields good now?
>>96023657elves just live a long time, even compared to dwarfs, so I could see some justification for Araloth being around being important, but he got rules simply due to him having a rather modern plastic kit compared to the other WE characters
>>96023653I just miss Queek Headtaker and Dwarf gouger. I miss issuing challenges to dwarf players only for them to piss and shit themselves and make the cuck walk to the back rank.
>>96023666>Tyrion and Teclis are also aroundtheir also basically teenagers who haven't done anything important yet, since Malakith has not invaded Ulthuan, so it wouldn't make much sense for them to be traipsing around TOW until after that.

Infantry is still dogshit.
I don't think fishmen should be a faction
I don't think vampirates should be a faction
But I think a faction that contains both eldritch fishmen and undead pirates would make sense
>>96023657>>96023666>>96023683ohh right so TOW is kinda prequel that makes more sense

meanwhile, if we connect fishmen to a form of undeath, we can run to hell and back with the quote "That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die" and on top of that we can play around with all the designs from pirates of the carribbean and have the vampirates not feel too snowflakey, since they'd be under this weird other power.

>>96024019>>State troop core of Spears with shieldsdo you think a few more s3 attacks are going to add more points to combat resolution purposes, than an extra point of armor is going to save?
>>96024023You can paint over the fleshy parts. They're pretty exposed so it's not like you have reach into nooks and crannies.

>Why is it a Beastman it creates instead of anything else?A beastman is just a catchall terms for any living humanoid creature mutated by chaos, warpstone is mutagenic, if it creates a living agent on earth it's going to be a mutant.
But yes, we all agree that the way beastmen are all depicted as goats is lame and some variety would be glad.
so in 2-3months cathay will be updated with rest of the model range and everyone has to buy the armybook again or will it be digital release
>>96024719the only new model will be miao ying and the second AJ is like the AJ for the other factions and includes armies of infamy for cathay.
Funny you post that image OP as I got this in the post today. 6th Ed army books were just the best. I feel kinda sad reading them to be honest.
>take me back
>>96024774Don't feel sad that the time has passed, feel happy you can still revisit it.
Also the fairy art still looks gnarly to me to this day. Bloody Necrarch.

Does Old World have an instant death rule that triggers when the strength of the attack is double the targets toughness?
>>96025185No. Go back to 40gay or HomoHeresy or wherever the fuck you crawl from.
You are NOT wanted here
>>960251856-8th editions had that rule if i remember right
atleast chariots insta died if attack strength was double their toughness
>>96024677The books are clear that they aren't allowed goats and rams, if you are too much of a hobbylet to convert your beasts that's on you
>>96024738Iโm surprised they didnโt lead with Miao Ying, though I suppose theyโre gauging demand.
>>96025220Ok thanks. So I guess I dont really have to worry about my wizards rolling a miscast if they can survive a strength 10 hit.
>>96024573Where exactly can I buy GW 20mm bases? I'm basing for legacy compatibility but I'm starting to run out of 20mms and it's a real struggle to find more with exactly the dimensions of GW (Other than some guy overcharging massively on eBay)
>>96025286My flgs has a bucket of 20m squares they sell for 20 cents each,
You can also just buy them from geedubs/local game store
>>96025220Chariots died to S7.
Nothing else had any sort of ID rule
>>96025286Just go on Amazon or eBay you can get hundreds for pennies on the dollar
> Buy GW basesOnly if you have severe mental retardation
>>96025286>Buying GW baseslol why, just get GSW bases, they're like 75% cheaper and even have slots for magnets
>>96025322This. If models are based properly its hard to tell the difference
>>96025232>if you are too much of a hobbylet to convert your beasts that's on youI don't play beastmen, I play against beastmen, if I could convert my opponents' armies I would, but literally not a single one of the beastmen players I've ever met converted non-goat beastmen, and not even out of a preference for goats either.
>>96025316A friend convinced me to play 6th with my Skaven and said the screaming bell is insane and I need to run it

Just got this captive villager mini, going to add it as either decoration for my army or maybe even as an objective during a game.
Would be fun to do a narrative game where
I fight against empire or something that needs to stop some dark ritual by a herdstone and rescue the prisoner.
>>96025482true story too, he never read the army rules and had no idea they would start to crumble away
dude just thought they looked really cool
>>96025393Yeah while dragonlords are annoying (as a non tourneyfag my exposure is limited thankfully) it's still more dynamic than this one enpire dick head I remember who would bring max cannons and gunners and corner camp all game sniping shit left and right
Same guy once bitched about 7th ed beastmen ambush, yes THAT ambush rules, becsuse I rolled a 6 to place on a 15 man gor herd that ended up killing 1 cannon and panicking some gunners off the table. Salty tears season manflesh so well.
>>96025484In order to maximise its use I'd put her on top of a sacrificial altar on a chariot, so you can use it as baggage cart, as unit filler and more.

>>96025954Lovely zombie skin on Nurglitch. The bright purple tails are also a nice splash of color.
>>96025958anon, what paints did you use for the cream/offwhite sections of your Reikland models?
>>96025895>be American>live paycheck to paycheck>spend said paycheck on Chinese plasticMany such cases.
>>96025994Just used Wraithbone primer spray to undercoat the whole model. Then painted and washed the other colours, then used GW Wraithbone layer pot to brush over any mistakes on the off-white. Tried to keep it as easy as possible as there's a lot of off-white to do.
>Cathay had a big civil war between all the dragon kiddos that was only solved because Daddy showed back up, have not been fleshed out entirely, what funny issues do the Dragon siblings not aware of/don't give a shit tied to that that permeate normal life?
>Shugengan nobles form the apparent backbone of Cathayan human society/form what could be called normal high society, how do they work? How can they be 'your dudes'-ified, will we not have middling dragon-blooded noble dynasties fleshed out for our wuxia pleasure?
>How does the Celestial Court function?
>In-universe alternative schema for how Yin-Yang beliefs mix with Cathay's limited state atheism+ground presence of chaos cultism.
>Jade Vampires, how do they work?
>Is the current province setup of Cathay the original one, or do the internal borders/regional layout get rearranged every time one of the Dragon siblings croak?
>Ogres, beastmen, illicit magic users, elves, other men, possibly others; there's obvious limits to the Daddy-centered morality of Cathay, as each of the dragon siblings are willing to make their own decisions and choices about how they interact with certain outside factions, and that probably has a trickle-down effect socially. What's the default reaction to seeing a Ogre in the south of the country as opposed to the north, ect
>>96025748Sadly I don't have a chariot just yet, so I think I'll stick this one to a base and if I get more captive villagers I can place them on altars and the link in the future, all good ideas though.
Why doesn't WARHAMMER(tm) use d20?
>>96026197beouce d6 are more commen and d100s are superior to d20s
>>96026197I prefer d10s myself.
>>96025320>>96025322I would rather not use those because they are too different to the GW ones I have. GSW bases are rounded. Replacements dont have to be GW branded, I dont give a shit about that, but I do want them to actually look the same.
>>96026263I bought a bunch of 25mm bases meant for train scenery and sets and legit it's almost the exact same. I'll see if I can find some pics to compare
>>96026197Because rolling 140 D20s for an Ork shooting attack just isn't practical.
>>96026197you needed a lot of d6's to play and they were the most common type of dice.
>>96026524I own ~30 D20s from being an infinity player and I can safely say there's no difficulty whatsoever rolling 20-30 of them at a time.
There's no situation where a unit should be designed to need to roll 140 dice. And if you want to field some turbo-retardation 30x10 squad of orcs just-because you can do batch rolling or a dice-app. It's not like 140 d6 can even literally be rolled on a table with terrain or a dice-tray for the current game anyway.
>>96026215There's no such thing as a d100, so fuck off. It's impossible to even shoot 2 guns on d100 system, you throw 4 dice down and there's no indication if it's 20+9 / 60+3 or if 20+3 / 60+9 was rolled. This renders D100 entirely worthless for every wargame, only being usable for D&D cocksuckers where units are 1 no-life attempting to see if his attempt to stroke the balls fails or not.
D20 is the only good mass-rollable dice that exists.
>>96026697>There's no such thing as a d100Au contraire!
>>96026697a D6 offers every probability you need on a dice, if anything GW goes overboard with 2D6 on Leadership etc while not differentiating stats enough to make the most of a single D6.
>>96026664Yeah either you have tinyd20, completely ignorant on how rolling 30 d20 at once would be, or are being a contrarian
>inb4 some retarded claimNo one in infiniti is rolling 20+ dice at once multiple times every game. Or even 10
>>96023118>>96023145Second this. What i like to do with slap chop is do a light white drybrush on top and then a final coat of a lighter shade this really helps add some depth

>>96027109it will come this edition. GW has already done all the wor,k and they have a section in the core rulebook like Cathay and Dogs of War, so it's not unlikely.
>>96027109Let me guess. Revealed to you in a dream?
>>96027169Dogs of War is like perfect to bring back all those great sculpts and even make new ones.
It could even be like Fantasy's version of warcry warbands, only not sculpted by cretins.
>here's some crazy goblins with muskets that are liable to kill themselves >Southlander fanatical warriors>Kar'mel the genie and her master>Imperial pikemenEtc.
>>96027343>Mordheim 2.0>Warbands can also be taken as mercenaries by appropriate factions
>>96027349I really don't want GW touching specialist games like Mordheim or God forbid Warmaster. They already fucked up Necromunda and killed Epic. That Blood Bowl survived is a testament to its strong community.
>>96027356GW just nicked all the community's rules and just released some new plastic minis now and again and called it a day.
>>96027362Wouldn't be a bad way to do Mordheim really
>>96027367idk the Mordheim community would still be completely apoplectic about it even if GW did the smallest thing.

>>96022956Morgiana le Fay is what Morgan le Fay used to be in the earlier versions of the Arthurian saga--a more benevolent witch acting as a spiritual guide for Arthur, rather than a malicious sorceress. In Warhammer, she can certainly be terrifying, but much like the Arthurian Morgan, Morgiana helps the just and the needy in worthy endeavors. She also believes so strongly in the people of Bretonnia, that she is still willing to grant her favor, despite the fact that everytime she does that, the magical bonds that forms puts her at risk of direct repercussions should the beneficiary abandon their quest.

>>96028072>>96028080Yeah if they're just forge world improvements then they'll do well, but then again the new Skaven only did okay IIRC so maybe it's another "fan base is more vocal than actual potential sales" situation.

I bought the Skaventide box because I like rats but nobody in my city wants to play AoS. Are these rats legal for use in The Old World?
>>96028134They did a decent job with Skaven to the point you could slot pretty much all the new stuff back into TOW without issue, but then again their original-the-dwar-I-MEAN-DUARDIN are ass so I'm wagering on them being weird and stupid.
>>96028150>They did a decent job with SkavenHard disagree. But they are not -as- bad as most redesigns
>>96028155They're not great definitely but they still look like Skaven at least. Unlike uhhh... KO in AoS.
>>96028144Absolutely, as long as they're on square bases (or rounds in conversion trays) you can play.
>>96028144Yeah man a clanrat is a clanrat, just stick in on a square base
Wouldn't be surprised if you see other Skaven ToW players doing the same, just keep in mind Skaven is a "legacy" faction and will likely not be receiving updates to rules etc in future while mainline factions will inevitably get new rule refreshes and maybe a new hero here and there

Skaven expedition anon here, gonna post what I think might be my last iteration of this warp fire thrower before moving on to globadiers. The flesh is less pink now, fur and skin look better, weapon looks more worn down, I think it's a straight improvement minus the cloaks, which I kinda spilled too much shit on. I then tried going back over it with the yellow paint but it just looked worse, so I dumped more wash on it to hide it, and now the poor cloak looks like it's been through an ogre's asshole. Hopefully the proud colors of this expeditionary force in the middle of the hot sands of nehekhara will be displayed in full with future paintjobs.
One thing I always hate about painting is by the time your done, your first model always looks the shittiest.
where the fuck is the preyton
Where the fuck are the rules for the chaos warshrine? I donโt want to run it as a chosen chariot. I want him to turn my mad max army into proper fanatics. You booted it from Aos for a reason now fucking stick your fanatic cock into the old world o warshrine.
>>96028125Not him, but the involvement of space farers isn't new to Warhammer. Old ones are explicitly aliens of great power, and accidentally brought green skins with them. Old Amazon lore had them make use of pillaged sci-fi tech from the old ones/slann. Lizardmen are revealed to have a fuck ass spaceship in the end times. And that's not to mention all the 40k chaos stuff showing up in fantasy due to chaos shenanigans
>>96029691Probably in a future arcane journal. Would be fitting considering GW's fascination with 'centerpiece' models.
I do hope the dogs of war rumours are correct, I love the idea of painting some mercenaries in bright garish colours so they stand out
>>96029649One thing I'd reiterate is choosing a silver colour for much of the metal to contrast more with the rest. The model looks very yellow overall although the lighting probably doesn't help.
And yeah don't worry about test models not always looking great. When you've got more practice you can always strip and re-do.
>>96028023Only trains the girls, the boys are killed and never seen again.
I cannot get over the Shugengan Lord, Grand Cannon, and Jade Warriors. I keep going back to their rulebook and looking for something but no, the Shungengan Lord is just better in melee with several special rules, an inbuilt ward, is a level 2 wizard by default, for 30 points less than an Empire General on Griffon (with TOP for a closer comparison). The cannon does get the dreadquake mortar special rule for 10 points more with the ability to take ogres that let you shoot twice and shores up their weakness to normal cheap ambushers. Jade warriors do have better armour for no more points and rules that buff their armour and stats and can get even better stats and a ward for 1ppm as compared to veteran state troops that get 1 extra combat res. I am dreading running into them on the table because currently GW made an army that does what I wanted mine to do but better in every facet. I guess I can spam demigryphs but that is not why I got empire and I would probably still just get shit stomped by their characters and cannons.
>>96028686>all leakers have been saying AoS for over a year>they were teased in an AoS reveal stream few months ago>GW is saying they're showing off a new AoS army for its aniversaryI don't know. Might even be Horus Heresy at this point
>>96029691Ngl the reason I didnโt play them in old world I always wanted that model

>>96030162If you bring the imperial griffon you're up to 60 points over the Shugengan, 80 if double heads. The Shugengan is about even vs normal griffon not factoring magic, and is dealt ~.3 more wounds a combat vs imperial griffon. I think overall impact > stomps currently since it can tack combat res on when going into units, and even keeping magic aside they will trounce Empire characters at a given points cost. It's really the top tier stuff that doesn't hold up to the concepts and should be the main attractions of the faction on the table, so they deserve a new updated kit more than anything, even more than a hippogryph kit, which is just behind them in priority.
>>96030325yeah, but a second edition is not coming out anytime soon.
>>96030410give it 2 more years and we'll be there
>>96028983it does probably outsell old world, just not $50 single foot heroes for a niche army vs an entire new army range release. you guys keep trying to create some false equivalency here, the scope and scale of the deepkin release compared to cathay are not even in the same ballpark. we have been having cathay dripfeed teasers pretty much since the start of the pandemic, its a full new model range. the deepkin shit is just a couple new small utility pieces for a less popular army that got shown off once a week before its release
turns out, old world vs age of sigmar people really probably dont feel too strongly one way or the other about the settings at large. what people, and by people i mean the masses of normies who spend the most money, not the diehard fanboys, what they really want are just good looking models. and the fact of the matter is that most of the old worlds ranges currently are just trying to sell off model kits no one wanted to buy 20 years ago, which have not changed except the occasional scraping off of karl franz's initials. if old world really wants big money sales, its going to need cathay level modern refreshes of all of its army ranges so they actually look good and can compete on sculpt quality and box cover interest. these old kits may have SOVL to the crusty old grogs online, but that doesnt ultimately drive sales, and if old world doesnt learn this lesson its just going to die all over again like it did before
>>96028015Are there any more of this series. Theyre pretty funny. Think ive seen one with Chorfs and elves.
Serious question why is everyone going crazy over the Cathay models? They're nice, they're fine. While good on a technical level they're a bit too clean for my liking, and they don't strike me as overly interesting or characterful. I really just don't see what's so fucking good about them that it's making people start TOW just so they can collect them.

>>96030653Here are some fun suggestions for a dragon:
- For a tzeentch sorcerer:
Make your dragon look like a fish or other aquatic creature with feathered wings (with eyes on them obviously) instead of fins
- For a nurgle dragon, mix rotfly components with a stormcast dragon
- For a slaanesh dragon, maybe have it be a serpent with angelic looking wings. Or just have it look like a giant steed of slaanesh, or make it look like a dragonfly
here are some suggestions for a demonic mount:
Slaanesh: some kind of mutated zebra with a snake for a tail, or a giant big cat (tiger, lion or jaguar etc.)
Tzeentch: A big mutant fish with legs, or an ostrich but its head it replaced by what looks like a metal tower with a burning orb or eye at the top
Nurgle: A big manky looking rabid dog or giant rat, or one of those necromunda hellamites
Khorne: Juggernaut is the classic, but a giant bull or some kinda gorilla/reptile hybrid creature would look cool
>>96030639No, I like the high elf infantry. It'll suck to get rigid figures like the dark elves or worse, the lumineth.

>>96030650> they'll notice it's all about the modelsi dont know how they couldnt, they literally say "we are a model company first" at every chance they get.
the only reason they wouldnt is because its the whole longterm success vs short term gains business dynamic and the bean counters that just wanted a quick buck in a fiscal quarter so instead of refreshing the lines they just spun up all the old moulds or dug backstock sprues out of storage for some quick turn around and clearance, which may have sold to some oldheads who had been wanting some OOP models or a couple of diehard fans and secondaries, but the casual hobbying audience/30something moms buying toys for their teens, which from GWs own admittance is like 80-90% of their sales, is going to want models that actually look good and dont have a particularly strong attachment to one IP over another enough to justify buying older, lower quality models.
i mean fuck, i just finished building 60 dwarf warriors and rangers and the mould slips and gaps on those models were god damn atrocious
>>96031279I don't think pilgrims, slayers or centigors are bad sculpts at all, I simply think they're an insult price-wise and will keep being a deal-breaking problem for their respective ranges as long as they stay in resin/metal at that price per model, and unfortunately an update in plastic is easier than a price reduction.

>>96031700>>96031702The retards that made them sell out for every launch up to Empire
>>96031738Orcs boyz aren't actually that big, canonically only being about man height. They can grow bigger of course, but the majority will never be larger than a human man.
>>96031687I was kinda pissed when I found out that the tomb kings reference cards don't even include the stuff from the Arcane Journal
>>96031738the average orc, in its slouching resting stance, reaches the same height of a normal human, it's just much wider.
>>96031780But aren't dwarfs supposed to only reach the waist of a man?
>>96031537They have the same flexibility for conversions and scratchbuilds for organic creatures as 40k orks do for vehicles. You can obviously make conversions and kitbashes for all factions but chaos and orks TRULY let you do whatever you want and have it be lore-accurate.
>>96031537If I were to collect chaos I'd try to focus as much as possible on conversions about mutations and hybrid creatures, so I'd say that's the most entertaining part of it, the freedom in themes and aesthetics it sets up.
>>96031738Those particular dwarfs are scale creeped
>>96031584could be a reference to medieval friars who got fat (and wealthy) off of selling indulgences for the church.
>>96030214>If you bring the imperial griffon you're up to 60 points over the ShugenganNo? It's only 30 pts more if it's an imperial griffon and it's only dealing more wounds during the first round of combat against the regular griffon, afterwards it loses its impact hits which are the largest source of damage.
>>96031786I'm relatively sure the baseline dwarf is over 4' tall, with many warriors being significantly taller than that a fair few exceptions being effectively human sized but with vastly different proportions, like I think gotrek, I seem to recall he's noted to be a giant of a dwarf, more recognisable as a dwarf by the typical dwarf proportions way more than the height.
>>96030214Not a behemoth, not strength 6.

>>96031283Nah I think they're pretty cool but I don't care much for their their super duper magical elements like the terracotta sentinels and such. Cathayan mercenary ogres, the pirate magistrate in the hot air balloon, the peasants armed with gunpowder, the bastard nobles with dragon blood, all neat. I like them more than bretonnia and helves for sure.
>>96030324Pegasus, silver helms, centigors, minotaurs (its 90% the offical paint job is shite) empire knights, pilgrims, grail knights (hating this proves you're a AoS elite = bobbles n dynamic pose slop eater) tomb king chariots even beast chariots (tuskgors need a refresh) all of these are pretty ok to good. The only ojly reason I'm not including dwarf warriors is cause they suck ass to assemble and often have mold slips. Really on your list other than high elf spears and tomb king skellies are really needing refresh, the rest are ok at worst.

What base is best for a great bray shaman a 25mm or a 30mm? I have other shaman minis (the old metal ones from made to order), so I can have multiple shamans, but should the great one be on a 30 and the regular ones on 25s?
>>9603214925mm is the superior option as they would more likely be in a gor bunker or even ungor bunker than bestigors; that said if you have the AoS one he's a pain to fit in 25mm as his cape overhangs a pinch.
>>96032154It is the plastic shaman I am referring too, but thanks for the tip, but I might put the magical goat on a 30mm, that way I can have him be running solo, or with Bestigors and even warped Gors for a cool thematic look.
>>96032107Yeah it is a real pity we never got a 6th Ed army book for Cathay. Priestley, Cavatore etc would've made it cool as hell I'm sure.
>>96030324>>96030247They're definitely going to update the old metals little by little, not because they're ugly, but because GW doesn't like metal as it's prices are too volatile.
Ushabti would be a perfect one to update. Super popular and metal.
>>96031537The models. They're just so good. Even going as far back as 1988 and even earlier, they're incredible.
>>96031794Yeah that's why I thought because the dwarf is quite big
>>96031738I donโr think I like the long term trend of making Dwarves more well proportioned. I feel like it takes away from the fantastical aspect of their race to make them just short dudes and not โDwarvesโ if that makes sense to anyone. Not to mention real dwarves donโt look like that, but I imagine GW would be spooked by the prospect of making them accurate to real life little people.
>>96032146I bet you think dragon ogres are a fantastic design too.
>>96032314>called a faggot>gives a faggot responseThis is going to kill the zoomer cum-soomer, but what made these games popular was the look. Deviating from it just for secondaries to not feel weird knowing their models come from a golden age of western civilization and is an expression of such, before the hollow world they know and making them uncomfortable. Yes, generally Dogres are fine my only gripe is that while they are part of a chaos army and their ungainly posture and portions fits in great, they weren't spawned from chaos and so could be more gracile. Not my favorite design but not one I'd get heartburn over. No, the ones that really need help are some of the core troops where being taken in droves and often outdated from other designs they stick out more. A unit doesnt need to be a centerpeice, you'd know that if you had an army sometimes the end justifies a unit far better than 1v1.
>>96032234And almost impossible to buy, perpetually out of stock.
Plastic ushabti kit with bow or GW option would be awesome
>>96032303I agree. The proportions strangely made olddorfs more "believable" to me than just little guys. These long, almost simian arms and stumpy legs. The thickness of their chests, looking as though they'd weigh over 200 pounds at less than five feet of height. A "small normal human" isn't going to be an effective fighter, but the cartoon proportions of the older sculpts kind of emphasize that they're not humans, and therefore I imagine that they have the same surprising feats of strength that you'd get out of Great Apes in real life or something.
>>96032388>what made these games popular was the look.Ah yes the grail knights that were absolutely not proxied with historical models and the beastmen that had literally no one play them, yes that look.
gonna be real man im not reading all that.
>>96029953I don't want to defend the obvious powercreep, and there is some things in that book that are just too good, Sky Lanterns, the dragon transformation rules, alchemists mask, the common 25pt terror item, ogre loaders, etc. But the Shugengen isn't one of them, yeah sure it's slightly undercosted but it's your only caster option and you're paying a lot of points for a melee profile you don't really want to use. The Jade Warriors are only like 1 point short, they stack up comparably to the better infantry options, M@A, Orcs, Ngobbos, Forsaken, Gors, etc, although the dragon guard upgrade should be like 2ppm.
>>96032467Using a proxy argument just shows you are a newfag- these models were a bitch to find and carried in clampacks or boxes stocked editions ago. Proxying back in the day was almost always due to having no other option. 3d printing and proxies being mainstream and not total conversion projects by a few mad lads only started toward the end of WHFB, do to many issues mostly price and availability- most 3d sculpting programs at the time were not that great anyways.
Also its ok to admit you read something and have no retort, instead of looking incapable
