Building a world to run a JRPG inspired campaign since I'm a fucking weeb, and wanna run a weebshit game. Yeah, I know - But after you shit your pants over someone wanting to do some cringe shit with their own group without effecting you or your group at all, I wanna know - What are the best systems for this? I'm looking at Fabula Ultima right now since it seems like it could be a good system, but I wanna know if I should be picking up both the Core Rulebook and High Fantasy book? If not, what is a good system for this (Not GURPs, fuck off)? I can show the world I have right now, using Obsidian to help me collate all my writing into a better visualization - So I'd need to export all the writing.
>>96024790They're better systems? What makes each one better?
>>96024772 (OP)What flavor of weebshit are we talking here? That's the important part
>>96024772 (OP)Is FU weebshit? I thought it was a jrpg emulator. Jrpgs are kind of their own thing, adjacent to weeb but subtly different.
Anyway, youve also got like 4 different editions of BESM, OVA, Anime 5e if that's your thing, and teenagers from outer space.
>>96024848Final Fantasy 9
>>96024868I called it weebshit since JRPGs are generally considered weebshit.
>>96024826It’s mostly that they’re designed to be games with an anime aesthetic in mind, particularly in character creation options, and iirc are pretty simple to learn.
>>96024899>Final Fantasy 9Sword World. All FF games up to 9 unironically have a strong basis in D&D and the Wizardry game series and can be played pretty well in D&D 2e or AD&D, but Sword World is literally just better D&D so go with that instead.
Fabula Ultima & Sword World seem to be the best for JRPG-styled games.
Sword World is the OG Japanese TTRPG of western fantasy dungeon crawling.
>made in japan
>basis for many JRPGs and anime
>replays for days
>classic retro dungeon crawling crunch
>settings are very baked into the mechanics
Fabula Ultima is a western simulation of JRPGs.
>made in the west
>narrative-forward system
>less crunch, more abstraction
>setting-agnostic
>mechanics built to simulate the feel of a JRPG
>>96025254Just looked into this
>>96025415Thanks for this breakdown. I think I'm going to stick to Fabula Ultima - I prefer not having to go with premade races giving bonuses and all that and it being a bit more narrative-focused.
