When I got into WHFB in 03, it was already kinda on the pricy side.

When I got back into it after a long time away in 2020, I did some quick maffs and found that the per model price (even for old sculpts) had gone up like 270% (don't remember exactly), even after adjusting for inflation.

I still build and paint the odd model I find cheap somewhere, but I'm more or less done with GW as a company nowadays. I just can't bring myself to spend this kinda money on plastic dudes.

It didn't use to be like this, but then of course they weren't squeezing our market so hard as they do now. It's a slow death they deserve, but I can't say I don't miss the Friday Games Nights with my mates at the local GW. Those were good times.

I never cared much for StarCraft (played the campaigns and that's it) but I will 100% collect some terrans and zergs, simply because I know that archon plastics are great quality. Will this stop me collecting GW (recasts)? Probably not, but I might buy more StarCraft stuff for a while for sure.
But StarCraft as a game needs solid rules too. It's still undecided I think.

Even an outdated Mars 2 Resin printer will run you less than 100 USD if you catch it on sale from the manufacturer. For 265 you could have plenty of resin, all the safety supplies, silicone mats, gloves, isopropyl, and a decent window fan for ventilating that you would need to get started resin printing.

The rules are nostly decided but they are waiting for Blizzard to rubberstamp them before full reveal. Current idea from what they teased is scale slightly larger than AoS Spearhead where your army can get wiped out a few times and you bring in replacement units - same minis, different unit. Upgrades are going to be a big part and apparently the minis you bring back to the table might play way different from those that died depending on the rules you choose for them.

I play Cathay in TW Warhammer 3, so the lantern is pretty tempting to have, even just as a display model. but not for that kind of money.
I'm sure there's an STL of something similar somewhere, but what's the point of printing a knockoff, when I'm not playing Old World

Enough must still do that they could expand those dogshit single man stores into regional cities. That said, the last reason for people to give a single fuck about 3rd party models died in the late 2000s when GW started using any excuse to pull prize support for independent tournaments, and its completely unnecessary for me to buy a 3d printer anymore because so many people have them.

I should also say that prize support rugpulling happened around the same time that GW region locked sales so people couldn't mail order direct from UK retailers anymore, which used to be the workaround for fucked local pricing.

At least the upside is we seem to have a pretty healthy wargaming scene. /tg/ is never going to be the place to get an accurate assessment of what things are like oversees but seems we have pretty healthy specialist games, historical, and alt wargaming scenes. A lot of good clubs out there even in small regional cities.

Dorks like this:

my guess for places like ballarat or whatever having a GW store is it's half idiot paypigs who dont know they can get it better/cheaper elsewhere and half 50 year old toms who have the money and dont care

at the end of the day GW will continue to sell things for insane prices because the 5% of their customer base who are whales more than cover lost profits from the 95% who arent

I'm an AusPost delivery driver in a small regional town in Victoria. Been doing it for over 8 years.
I can count on one hand how many times I've seen/delivered parcels that come from Games-Workshop in that time. Something like Lego, I see at least 1 parcel a week from them. A lot more if you include sets coming from K-mart/Big W/Bricklink. Hell there are a couple of guys I regularly deliver Gundam stuff to, but stuff from Games-Workshop, like name/logos on the parcel box and listed as sender? Yeah, I see fuck all from them.

But that said, having just got back into 40k after a decade or so out of the hobby and having learnt about all the "cheap" online stores like Combat Company and War for Less, I have started to notice quite a few parcels coming from them, going to multiple different people.

Fuck no, the only times I got models were either from helping my friend's family who worked for Games Workshop with chores, splitting the costs of battle sets like Macragge with my friends, ebaying parts for conversions and pocketing a couple of special character singles during a convention. You know, basic hobby stuff.

You know there's a lot of things i can point out but here's the thing.
why don't you act like your money is worth it?
GW is a billion dollar fucking company, they cannot be bothered to write good rules, proofread their shit or support their games.
Price it's immaterial you people are such self hating consumers that you use your tongue to clean GW's fucking toilet seat.
Every decision GW does by and large is to fuck you, make your games worse to benefit them and you people will eat it up.
this is not sustainable in the long run.
I feel bad for Horus heresy players because they're experiencing this right now.
its' really time to leave GW like a bad girlfriend.

This is aside the point though, people swear up and down about necromunda, i play MESBG (the new edition is mostly bad) if we add that then what do we have 3 games?
